rubenv··on I ditched Docker for Podman
Is there anything like Skaffold that works with Podman?
rubenv··on Fly To Podman: a script that will help you to migrate from Docker
Only thing I really miss is good Podman support in Skaffold.
rubenv··on Context should go away for Go 2 (2017)
> As I understand they propose to pass the data explicitly, like a struct with fields for all possible request-scoped data.

So basically context.Context, except it can't propagate through third party libraries?

rubenv··on Curl with Partial Files
The latter one shows your password in the process listing.
rubenv··on Australia/Lord_Howe is the weirdest timezone
That's true if you need to clean up temporary files every night or make a backup.

But what if your cronjob has an effect in the physical world, locally? E.g. open the parking gates every morning.

The world is inherently messy :-)

rubenv··on Everyone seems to forget why GNOME and GNOME 3 and Unity happened (2022)
Hope you're doing well Jeff! Those were good days!
rubenv··on DevDocs
Only gripe here, and it's not a devdocs problem per se, is that Firefox deletes the offline documentation if you haven't opened devdocs in a while.

Is there any way I can turn that off, preferably on a per-site setting?

rubenv··on An experimental Android WebView Media Integrity API early next year
Good
rubenv··on Let me tell you about me Gear Fabrication Syndrome
Not often you see simracing mentioned here!

For sure there are gains to be made by having proper material as opposed to entry level, but those quickly become marginal.

The biggest gains by far are usually found in working on your driving style. Have a look at telemetry of someone who's slightly faster and work out the differences methodologically.

Shameless self-promotion: if you're racing in iRacing, have a look at https://garage61.net, we have over 125 million laps of telemetry to learn from.

rubenv··on Nucor and Helion to Develop 500 MW Fusion Power Plant by 2030
But more than half of the time the sun doesn't shine in my lovely country.
rubenv··on CloudNativePG – Postgres Operator for Kubernetes
How did you migrate between the two?
rubenv··on I'm all-in on server-side SQLite (2022)
Not much feature development is perfectly fine if it works! Things don't have to evolve.

Planning to use litestream as a library to dynamically swap in/out dozens of databases in a process. Looking at the code it'll easily allow that (super clean, kudos!).

So many thanks, it's going to enable a lot of new things!

rubenv··on CloudNativePG – Postgres Operator for Kubernetes
Using the Zalando operator to send to Minio over here.

No problems at all so perhaps what you ran into has since been fixed?

rubenv··on I'm all-in on server-side SQLite (2022)
What's the status on litestream? Does that have a future as well or is it LiteFS all the way?
rubenv··on The Destroyed Libraries of Louvain (2012)
Ladeuze is the name of the library (and square where it's located).

Leuven indeed.

rubenv··on The Destroyed Libraries of Louvain (2012)
Hey, that's where I live!

Terrible history around our libraries. Happy it got rebuilt though. You can visit the Ladeuze tower, has quite a nice view of the city.

rubenv··on Tintin, Hergé and Chang
All this love for comics from Belgium and nobody mentioned the great Michel Vaillant?
rubenv··on Native AOT Overview
100% this!

Hope you're doing well Sandy, been a long time.

rubenv··on Native AOT Overview
Fellow Banshee contributor, ex-F-spot maintainer here. Those were good days.
rubenv··on Achieving full stack Kubernetes visibility
Looks interesting!

It's open-source yet VC funded, what's the (planned) business model?

rubenv··on Tesla cancels Model S and Model X deliveries in Australia and other RHD markets
Except all infrastructure is designed for it? Getting a ticket at the entry of a parking garage is a royal pain if you're on the wrong side of the car.

Also: safety!

rubenv··on Getting ready to ship 13th Gen and announcing power saving Expansion Cards
Really impressive that they provide instructions to solder the old cards up towards the new spec.

Fully out of my range of talents, but does show they genuinely care about what they preach.

rubenv··on Show HN: Syncing data to your customer’s Google Sheets
That's more reassuring indeed.

Cool project, good luck!

rubenv··on Show HN: Syncing data to your customer’s Google Sheets
That's 5 per second over all your customers? Not too worried about reaching that quickly?
rubenv··on Show HN: Syncing data to your customer’s Google Sheets
Not very familiar with the sheets API, but was wondering: how are rate limits applied? Per sheet or in total?
rubenv··on Bitcoin’s Last Stand
> One Bitcoin transaction consumes hardware comparable to the hardware of two smartphones.

I knew it was bad, but this is just horrifying.

rubenv··on Incidents caused by unappreciated OSS maintainers or underfunded OSS projects
For all it's good intentions, also be warned that paydevs is promoting "break the build" as a valid strategy. https://www.paydevs.com/pages/faq

I tried reasoning with the founder about how, as a build engineer, I find that highly disturbing, but they don't see any trouble with that.

Wouldn't recommend, for that reason alone. Tidelift may be a better option here.

rubenv··on My Cloud Storage Crisis
What's even more infuriating is that if you're on the legacy Google Apps for Domain plan, the only way to upgrade storage is by going to Workplace for the whole domain, even if only one person (my mother) requires it.

So instead of buying her a $20/year plan for 100 GB, they're forcing a hundreds of dollars yearly plan on me.

And obviously there's no way to detach that one account.

Looking for a better option here.
