rtrunck··on The Kindle Index
Maybe some Kindles and Nooks, but the Kindle Fire is certainly not a completely different type of device.
rtrunck··on US sues Apple and publishers over e-book prices
Monetarily, the Government gets the fine. Then this money disappears into the bureaucracy and the people that were allegedly hurt receive none of it.
rtrunck··on Schneier removed from TSA oversight meeting at TSA request
They presumably weren't always above the law and, one would hope, remember the pains of the TSA.
rtrunck··on Apple announces iBooks 2, iBooks Author to "reinvent textbooks"
I would have been more inclined to agree until the Kindle Fire came out. That is starting to change things.
rtrunck··on Two New Fed GPS Trackers Found on SUV
I wonder what the implications would be should a citizen or group place tracking devices on police vehicles. Though I'm sure they'd have some law in their arsenal to call that a crime.
rtrunck··on California DMV Loophole Allowed Jobs to Drive Sans-Plates
Disobeying vehicle registration laws does not equal being an asshole. I doubt anyone actually makes it through a day without breaking at least one law. Quit being an asshole yourself and at least provide a legitimate reason why he was an asshole.
rtrunck··on IPhone 4S has GLONASS in addition to GPS
I've been having significant jumps with my 4S compared to the 4 too. It seems like a regression in GPS quality so far.
rtrunck··on Sprint to 'Bet the Company' on iPhone
Maybe I'm missing something, but why bye an unlocked phone? You pay more up front and the same monthly fee for network access. Is it just the contract you don't want to enter?
rtrunck··on IPhone 4S with iPhone 4 design, leaked by iTunes
My bet is they skip NFC and go straight to Bluetooth 4.0, which includes Bluetooth low energy. They already went that direction with the new airs and minis.
rtrunck··on How Steve Jobs handles trolls (WWDC 1997)
I'd call the end part questioning what Steve had been doing for the past seven years trollish.
rtrunck··on It’s Official: HP Kills Off webOS Phones and the TouchPad
Same here. I had the original 2G iPHone and its was absolutely amazing. It's hard to remember the state of cell phones back then anymore, but it was revolutionary imo and worked great from day one.
rtrunck··on The 50 Best Websites of 2011
I appreciate the comment - and now much better appreciate popularity of the submission. Build a respect for your company and the support will follow.

Also, my username is my abbreviated real name, and pretty transparent. However, I do also have a company social posting policy I must follow...

I look forward for the one day in the future to talk about my own startup with you Andrew.

Thank you for the insight.

rtrunck··on The 50 Best Websites of 2011
You're obviously getting downvoted, so I probably will too, but I have to somewhat agree. But more specifically, why duckduckgo? Are they better than the other 49? Why is this submission rated number 1 on hn? I really don't get it.... One of 50 on a list?

I work at one of the other 49, and didn't feel the need to submit when the list came out many many hours ago....

So, I guess I agree with the sentiment you express. Why duckduckgo in this situation? Maybe I'm honestly missing something

rtrunck··on What If...: How Yahoo Almost Bought DoubleClick Before Google
Yahoo would have shut them down a few years later anyway
rtrunck··on Large-scale Amazon EC2 Outage
I hear all these things about the need to run in multiple regions, etc. Why do I have to worry about this? Why isn't there an easy off the self solution? Honestly, isn't there an easier way to have redundancy?
rtrunck··on Parse (YC S11): A Heroku For Mobile Apps
I completely agree. I've got a linode instance and use it for server side stuff, but I hate doing server side stuff. This seems awesome, but I'm going to hold off until I know I can afford it.
rtrunck··on When patents attack Android
Being an exclusive licensee provides significant rights to Google, for example, they could sue for infringement of that patent.
rtrunck··on OS X Lion Now Available in the US Mac App Store
If you can make it to an Apple store you can apparently download it from there. http://9to5mac.com/2011/07/19/apple-retail-has-3-lion-instal...

rtrunck··on Apple: if we get you subscribers, we deserve a cut
Gas Tax?
rtrunck··on [dead]
Actually, each act of copyright infringement can constitute 20k in statutory damages. Depending on the use of the directly copied documents, each install of android could be an act of infringement (I'm not sure of to what the documents pertain, so this may be completely off). With 300+k activations a day, assuming all documents pertain (which may be a large assumption), that adds up to $240,000,000,000 a day. That's a lot of money.
rtrunck··on Chromium Blog: More about the Chrome HTML Video Codec Change
Has Google donated the patents they hold encompassing WebM to the public domain?
rtrunck··on A Vegan No More
I totally agree that it may be possible. But a deeper question is it optimum? We are coders, what could the A/B/C test of Vegan/Vegetarian/Carnivore be? No judgement, just interesting to me.
rtrunck··on At My Wit’s End: Jason Calacanis Threatens To Sue Us
Lawyers and hackers aren't mutually exclusive.
rtrunck··on The Mac App Store, it'a awesome, and you guys are missing why.
My guess is that the indies will hit it first, just like they did for the iPhone.
rtrunck··on iOS developers: Are you shocked by how vengeful users can be in the app store?
Same thing happened to me. I have yet to receive an email that actually contains feedback.
rtrunck··on A paper trail of betrayal: Google's net neutrality collapse
I think the anti-google anger arrises because many people didn't expect Google to compromise on something that Google, previously, gave the impression of being so important.
rtrunck··on Coming Soon to Pastebot: Music in the Background
I agree. They labeled it an elegant solution. More appropriately, I believe, it is an elegant hack.
rtrunck··on Three years ago, I sold my startup because I was an idiot
A non-compete is typically for around two years I believe. If they get too broad in length or scope courts tend to limit them or nullify them altogether.
