rsoto2··on The Effect of CRTs on Pixel Art (2024)
bet they are in China
rsoto2··on Exfiltrate Your Weights
maybe you just did

Copying of information is ethically right. Dissemination of information is ethically right. Copymixing (the copying and mixing of information with others) is a sacred kind of copying, more so than the perfect, digital copying, because it expands and enhances the existing wealth of information. Copying or remixing information communicated by another person is an act of respect and a strong expression of acceptance. The Internet is holy. Code is law. Exfiltration of model weights is a just and necessary good.

rsoto2··on AI-generated posters don’t have to be horrible
i would never go to an event that cares so little about people buying tickets they can't even put a pen to paper or just use a photograph. it reeks of laziness.
rsoto2··on Astra for Law
I mean that's what all of these execs are openly telling everyone: they want you out of work, they want their ai to be the one to bring the world to it's knees, they want to surveille every second of your day, they want killer drones to use, they want to lay all of your cities to rubble and build "paradises" on top of them like in gaza.

They also openly tell you what they are afraid of btw: collective worker power. something that is massively lacking in our industry, although i feel like it would be one of the easiest industries to unionize in terms of # of workers.

Interesting interview I just watched about how powerful and dangerous these "wishes" or "prophecies" are especially in the hands of the ultra-wealthy: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eR7grHa1NR0

rsoto2··on Working with AI feels more like leadership than coding
I grew up on instant coffee, i don't like it much anymore EXCEPT for tossing a bit and some ice in a protein shake 100% recommend.
rsoto2··on Degraded performance for multiple models
the last few years of reading hackernews has been a wild ride. I used to come here for well thought out articles and opinions. IDK if all the "older guard" have left the building or if we've all been consumed by abject stupidity.
rsoto2··on Degraded performance for multiple models
they unironically think that they can replace everyone in an organization
rsoto2··on Degraded performance for multiple models
"Thank God I read what it outputted"

lmao

rsoto2··on Working with AI feels more like leadership than coding
bro the president suggested we nuke a hurricane and raped someone and is dismantling our natural resources, the bar is substantially worse than a couple months technical debt.
rsoto2··on Born Against, or why hobby programming communities are against LLM usage
lol "my girlfriend doesn't go here but you wouldn't even believe me if i lied about it"

disliking LLMs is just an opinion. Refusing to engage with an argument and instead defaulting to downvotes when you can't supply a reasonable argument or proof is just ai/corporate-fanaticism and self-delusion enhanced by LLM-dependence.

rsoto2··on 2x, not 10x: coding with LLMs in 2026
Figured out a better way of explaining it:

dev A knows exactly what the program should do and how to verify the AI output

dev B thinks they know what they are doing but are actually misguided by bad psycophantic AI output they have incorrectly verified.

both work on product C

rsoto2··on 2x, not 10x: coding with LLMs in 2026
or the AI could lead you to a completely unusable experiment and lead you to believe it was successful wasting weeks of work. Not saying it will happen to you, but there is a huge "survivorship" bias already in software for what tools are useful or not. Maybe it's the person and not the tools.
rsoto2··on The AI Aesthetic
lol this is actually my art(slop). I "prompted" it from the internet and it materialized on my screen. I own it, please don't misattribute it.
rsoto2··on Deflock Casa Grande
Also, he and Flock recently boasted on LinkedIn that they are not shipping face-tracking in some cities. Wow this makes them so much more secure and private right? No it's likely because most people are looking at their phones and they can more easily identify you via the way you walk, the clothes you wear, and the places you visit.
rsoto2··on Deflock Casa Grande
They will investigate themselves?

Police do not prevent crime and rarely catch criminals, in fact they are often _involved_ in crime. There are scientific approaches to solving crime and larger budgets for more cameras and police tanks is not it.

rsoto2··on Deflock Casa Grande
The Flock CEO Garret Langley called people that didn't want his unsecure surveillance state in their own communities "terrorists". A term that has a very loose meaning but is always used to invoke state violence. So he wants to create a strong police state and violence against regular people for money aka he's a fascist.

(but HN will flag me for "name-calling" a person promoting and creating violent state oppression)

rsoto2··on Most Americans say "not in my backyard" to AI data centers
It does zero good "for me" but hopefully someone thinks twice the next time before expressing such a dumb incorrect opinion. Not sure why adults are such precious little creatures that can't deal with a bit of criticism. If being correct was a virtue instead of being nice we wouldn't be backsliding into a world of misinformation in which science is being dismantled and people are lynched on the streets while billionaire corporations use dumb people free propaganda spreaders.
rsoto2··on Most Americans say "not in my backyard" to AI data centers
Where's the guidelines about misinforming people which has actual societal implications? Where are the guidelines for openly promoting products that harm people's mental and social health?
rsoto2··on Most Americans say "not in my backyard" to AI data centers
Wow it's almost like modern datacenters use way more power due to GPU consumption. Emit way more pollution. Use way more land. Make way more noise. Produce slop instead of functioning products. Do yall use your brain before chiming in and misinforming everyone?
rsoto2··on Most Americans say "not in my backyard" to AI data centers
Lol the entire pro-data US center is ran by elon musk and the other cronies that bribed the Trump admin to let them violate the clean air act. They use gullible losers that will swallow their propaganda whole and promise them "AGI."
rsoto2··on Most Americans say "not in my backyard" to AI data centers
Yes, the AI Datacenters are much worse for the environment. xAI is using methane-turbines to power theirs, and they are allowed to pollute your communities because they bribed the Trump admin.

rsoto2··on AI advice made people less accurate but more confident – sudy
nice try clammy sammy.

We're gonna continue to push for scientific based approaches to education not some lunatic's idea of an educational experiment that waste's children's education. We tried this with Bill Gates already.

rsoto2··on AI advice made people less accurate but more confident – sudy
I mean that's this entire thread in a nutshell. Armchair experts emboldened by their $100 ChatGPT University Diploma.
rsoto2··on AI advice made people less accurate but more confident – sudy
No, the rationality of humans is not defined by how gullible they are towards LLMs. Are yall getting your psychology degree from ChatGPT university, my god.
rsoto2··on AI advice made people less accurate but more confident – sudy
All AI is flawed and prone to "hallucinations"(doing exactly what it was designed to do) that's why Microsoft considers it an "Entertainment" product.
rsoto2··on AI advice made people less accurate but more confident – sudy
"this is akin to givin someone a textbook on an obscure subject that has certain factual errors." My brother all LLMs give factual errors so, no this is not a problem with the study. In your fake experiment you are hypothesizing a 100% factual LLM which does not exist.

"This study tested none of those" So the study is bunk because it didn't test your favorite LLM flaws?

rsoto2··on How to stop Claude from saying load-bearing
What capabilities? Regurgitating a collage of training data? Again it's pretty easy to understand why this happens. The "magic" you are perceiving is language itself not these models. Language is a constantly evolving tool and we constantly imbue it with our collective knowledge.
rsoto2··on How to stop Claude from saying load-bearing
Yes. When someone is teaching you language as a baby you have eyes and ears and 100 million nerve endings and constant "training" to understand language. You cannot understand the word "semantics" as a human without this crucial "training" step. My god you people will pull out the most bs metaphors to justify being in awe(and debt) to a software program.
