rscott··on Probabilistic Many-to-Many Relationships (with Bloom Filters)
Runtimes in the article are in milliseconds.
rscott··on YC RFS: Things Built on Twitter [2009]
Building something on top of Twitter is rather different than building a Twitter display client.
rscott··on Using Chrome Web Store for App Distribution (by the numbers)
But offline is kind of what Google is pushing against with Chrome OS, so seems that would be contrary to their goals.
rscott··on Notifo (YC W10) Android Client - Beta signup
Pretty sure Notifo is just Chad and Paul, but given Paul's popularity this really isn't that odd. Probably just the result of an innocent, "Hey dude upvote my HN submission will ya" text or two.
rscott··on Verizon to finally get iPhone
Out of curiosity, does anyone seriously know who these "analysts" are and what their job actually entails?
rscott··on Goldman, Citing Strong Response, to End Facebook Solicitation
Yes they can. Companies do it all the time with employee stock purchasing programs, for instance, where you have to hold on for at least a year before flipping it.
rscott··on I haven't used soap or shampoo in a year
Soap I can kind of understand, but I definitely can't see how no shampoo would work for me. If you ever put any kind of product in your hair that seems out of the question.
rscott··on Tell HN: 2 weeks ago, I didnt know programming. I just wrote a web scraper.
Congrats, glad to hear you had success. I'm curious as to why you started with C#. Most people these days are steered the way of Python or Ruby it seems. Care you elaborate on your goals?
rscott··on Check if your email is amongst those compromised in Gawker break-in
Well, that is most unfortunate.

A big thanks for the heads up.

rscott··on BestBuy will sell Nexus S for $529 Unlocked (or $199 w/ 2 year contract)
Elsewhere geographically, sure. But you'll still be stuck with a contract early termination fee.
rscott··on Apple’s iOS 4.2 Available Today for iPad, iPhone & iPod touch
Be serious. The amount of people that use the iPad in meetings in negligible compared to the amount that use it laying in their bed every evening, where the orientation switch was very useful.
rscott··on Instapaper's backup method
I agree completely. It doesn't seem wise, legally, to store one's business backups at home. Whether my thoughts are warranted or not I have no idea, but I'd just pay the small S3 fee and be on with it.
rscott··on Iphone Application Development - Course from Stanford
I agree. I thought the Loren Brichter lecture was quite good when I saw it a year or two ago. He doesn't do many interviews or blog posts as far as I know, so it was interesting to see the man behind Tweetie speak on various development issues.
rscott··on Offer HN: Front-End Web Development.
Just a light or dark text-shadow of a pixel. A Google of "CSS embossed text" for details should work.
rscott··on Offer HN: Front-End Web Development.
There has been a really cool growth in these types of posts lately. As somewhat of a beginner in some of the areas required to become a great startup, it's nice to know someone potentially has your back and is willing to lend a hand.
rscott··on Ask HN: Do CS students enjoy C anymore?
I enjoy it and I graduated less than a year ago, though I am an EE, not CS grad. Perhaps look at the CE/EE crowd a bit more in depth. Where I went to school (large Big-10 engineering program), we were required at least one C course, with more as electives.
rscott··on [dead]
This is not an appropriate Ask HN. This is a misplaced Craigslist posting. If there is no discussion to be had, this probably isn't the appropriate avenue (save the YC company job postings, but note those have comments disabled).
rscott··on Why We Sold TechCrunch To AOL, And Where We Go From Here
I always noticed massive slowdowns loading all their JS rubbish when I load their page, but I agree; I've never seen their site down that I recall.
rscott··on Microsoft, Please Stop This Madness
I wish his "HTML 5 from early 2008" site would support zooming on my iPad, pretty obnoxious it doesn't.
rscott··on Diaspora Developer Release
I'm sorry, but for $200k+ funding you need to do more to impress me than throwing a bunch of gems together and putting it on MongoDB.

I like the minimalist design, though.

rscott··on [dead]
It really is odd. Also gone are the colored icons, replaced by grey/slate with blue highlights. It's not the blue that's currently used as the default OSX highlighted row color, either. Makes me think that the Aqua theme will seem some changes rather soon.
rscott··on AT&T's new data plans: $25/2GB cap, tethering +$20
So I'm grandfathered in. What happens when I upgrade to the next iPhone? 2GB is a damn joke. I hate that tethering is a hardware capability that I rent from them - not willing to do that.
rscott··on New Jailbreak for all iPhone OS 3.1.1, 3.1.2, 3.1.3 devices (including iPad)
Is this possible right now?
rscott··on New Jailbreak for all iPhone OS 3.1.1, 3.1.2, 3.1.3 devices (including iPad)
What's the draw towards jailbreaking these days, anything interesting?
rscott··on Poll: Your income bracket in 2009?
I wouldn't mind a post explaining your lifestyle. I don't see how that's possible. Not saying it isn't true, I'm just curious.
rscott··on Poll: Your income bracket in 2009?
It's how much you earned. It would be the gross, so the cash you pumped back into a business wouldn't matter for this answer.
rscott··on Poll: Your income bracket in 2009?
First to parse this page into a snazzy histogram that automatically updates gets an upvote.
rscott··on Android – Now Ported On The iPhone
This is incredible. I've been hoping for over a year that this would occur. Why would Google not pick this guy up... clearly he knows his way around Linux and Android.
rscott··on Hacking Ticketmaster
Pretty simple why it's illegal. They made up fake people, contact info, and email addresses that weren't tied to real people. The terms of the site don't allow that and when you are buying tens of thousands of tickets, people tend to notice.
rscott··on Opera Mini approved for iPhone
It doesn't scroll to the top of the page when you tap the status bar. Hate when apps neglect to do that.
