rrival··on Old-School Silicon Valley Company Logos ON T-SHIRTS
Not as old school and most of the startups are still alive:

http://www.startupschwag.com/

I've shut down the monthly subscriptions but leftovers remain. Take 70% off, use code: HN70

I tried to track down who owned webvan's art through a screen printer that worked with them to no avail. Also tried to find out who has kozmo.com's art. Didn't get anywhere there either.

If you don't already have a few apps to cross promote your app, check out Allify.com - we're building a free cross-promotion platform for iOS (and Android) to enable this kind of distribution boost.

Edit: initial distribution boost; I'm not saying "Join Allify, we'll guarantee 1m downloads in a month!" =)

rrival··on Quick Poll: The fate of Color
Does this remind anyone of the marketing/PR around Cuil?
rrival··on Poll: Do you have a formal CS or a general computing degree?
Is there a "acquired all the credits for a CS degree without humanities distribution requirements before dropping out" option? =)
rrival··on Rate my startup - Poplytics
Agree on copy and design but SurveyMonkey has done ok with this category (http://www.crunchbase.com/company/surveymonkey). Granted they have a 12 year head start.
rrival··on When Should I Visit? - A 24 hour hack I made, what do you think?
Cool idea - is the % of foursquare users in a sample population consistent? What if Tuesday is "bus in the foreigners/elderly?" - valuable info regardless, but I'd be curious to know how that holds up.
rrival··on Tell HN: The 4-Hour (Profitable) Startup - How I Did It
Next step: Weather machine
rrival··on Hacking side projects: Napkin to $1000 per day
Could probably find the domain for $200 =)

rrival··on Ask HN: Source of machine parsable product catalogs?
Try Amazon's data itself via their API - http://aws.amazon.com/
rrival··on New cave found in Vietnam: "A skyscraper could fit"
Love new scientific discoveries, just haven't seen a lot of gallery links here and recall that that's a leading indicator of content noise ratio increase.

Thanks for posting the direct article link.

rrival··on Ideas Without Time/Money - How Can I Make Them Happen?
Read The Four Steps to the Epiphany, do a SWOT analysis on these ideas. Determine, with some degree of confidence, your ability to reach the markets your services target, the costs involved, and their propensity to spend on your solution once the technology is actually implemented. Then focus on the solution that has the greatest potential.
rrival··on Confession: I am Facebook Login Scum
I'd be curious to see your stats on hn-books as well - it always seemed to me like the "right" solution for a HN bookshelf would somehow involve contributions to the EFF, or equiv.
rrival··on Show HN: My craigslist erotic section replacement
Clickable: http://localstrange.com/

I question using a search box for this - wouldn't categories be much much easier for everyone?

rrival··on Ping Brigade - measure how quickly your website loads from around the world
Interesting - hope it grows.

I ran netstat.net back in the day - took it over when MCI threatened to sue its initial creator, then updated it and expanded it.

We tracked latency to common ISP nameservers from ~15 locations in the US and Australia. It seemed a little more important when we had to deal with non-broadband latency (dialup was awesome).

Interweather was another 'competitor.' As was the internet traffic report.

And this makes me feel old: http://www.merit.edu/mail.archives/nanog/1998-06/msg00401.ht...

rrival··on Is The Silicon Valley Talent Shortage Getting Worse?
Bubble? Overheated? Aren't we recovering from a broader downturn? Or are you suggesting that we're in the 3rd or 4th quadrant of the VC investment-ease curve (~2000, ~2007)?
rrival··on Ask HN: Review my webapp PCPartPicker: pick parts, build a pc, compare prices
Ahh, love this idea. Was going to use PriceMyPC.com / PriceAPC.com for it and have it affiliate the parts efficiently. I never worked past the hw compatibility issue. Great to see it working.
rrival··on Ask HN: how many years have you "wasted" on failed startups? And any regrets?
Something that's kicked around here a lot: fail quickly.

If a project doesn't fit success criteria I give it about a month before it's pivoted or done.

rrival··on A Sad Startup Idea :( $$$
Entrustet.com and Legacylocker.com are chasing this to some extent.

Lifehacker had a similar post recently: http://lifehacker.com/5617683/what-should-i-do-about-my-virt...

rrival··on Ask HN: Which websites actually have a useful search that Google can't beat?
iStockPhoto - semantic, allows for moderately easy refining
rrival··on Realtime Analytics with MongoDB
I liked this one as well:

rrival··on A Collection of Great Web Apps and Startups
They're attractive designs, but you should probably mention you're Halogy's official rep, or someone might think you're gaming yc for commercial gain.
rrival··on Old Spice on Twitter
brilliant
rrival··on Ask HN: What's your biggest gripe with craigslist and/or ebay?
on craigslist, scams/spammers
rrival··on Ask HN: How to make the most out of my domain name?
Why is no one talking about Fujitsu? =)

http://www.fujitsu.com/us/services/retailing/technology/hard...

rrival··on Techcrunch just deleted all comments older than 1/24/2010
So many new opportunities for 'First'...
rrival··on Save Wikileaks -- donate now or lost it forever
I can confirm that this is the case. They're actually very reasonable if you're important/controversial/popular enough to get ahold of a rep.

rrival··on Chicago Y Combinator?
I've been here ~5 years - summer, this summer included, is preferable to what's about to happen until May.
rrival··on Chicago Y Combinator?
"Chicago cannot compete with Y-Combinator for social capital, technology resources, or entrepreneurial connections."

Maybe it's time to head elsewhere? It's too bad, too; the summers here are great, cost of living is low...
