rpledge··on Django-qrauth: QR codes for instantly signing in to a website
I didn't even notice the account was green. Trust me, I would have just posted at the top level, I have no need to create fake accounts.....

rpledge··on Teenager facing terrorism charges for something he posted on Facebook
Not sure why you think that, and your karma is too high to be a troll...
rpledge··on Teenager facing terrorism charges for something he posted on Facebook
Certainly criminal statements can be written on Facebook, but could you point out what that is in this case? Should Ice-T have been imprisoned for Cop Killer?
rpledge··on Teenager facing terrorism charges for something he posted on Facebook
Fair enough, that was harsh. But it does annoy me when people treat the flag button as a downvote button.
rpledge··on Teenager facing terrorism charges for something he posted on Facebook
Too bad it just got flagged to death. HN seems to be getting worse for burying anything that anyone might disagree with lately

EDIT: Seems to have come back from the dead... :)

rpledge··on Reddit, Boston and the missing student
I thought 'Racist Where's Waldo' is a very good 3 word summary
rpledge··on Node.js Application Hosting Service running on Digital Ocean
Looks nice, price seems right. I'll have to try it when I have some free time.
rpledge··on First autoscaling Node.js hosting
$50 is way too much for a small app. I can run a node server with a small mongodb on AWS for $10 a month. Sure, it's likely a bit more management than an integrated service like yours but I could run 5 instances. I'll also admit that it is hard to compare given that there's no info on your site about performance or at least some indication of the type of hardware you're running on.
rpledge··on First autoscaling Node.js hosting
Looks interesting, but the 'drops' pricing model makes it really hard to understand what it costs to run a server.
rpledge··on GCHQ – Not So Secure?
Clearly they're actually storing them using very strong hashing techniques but then using super secret technology from MI6 to reverse them if they get forgotten.
rpledge··on Shark Tank Statistics
Does this analysis include how many deals actually close? There is a due diligence phase after the show is taped and I'm under the impression very few deals actually complete....
rpledge··on Sony Announces the PlayStation 4 and the Death of Hardware
I don't know if hardware is dead, but I think this announcement is the death of PowerPC
rpledge··on A Wired.com reporter was first to register mcdonalds.com (1994)
Makes me wish I had the foresite to register pledge.com

Damn you Johnson and Johnson!

rpledge··on USPS to Cut Saturday Mail
I think Canada Post should switch to 3 day delivery for residential addresses. Given the push to electronic bills and payments (many companies charge extra if you opt for a paper bill) 90% of whats in my mailbox is junk mail. Improved parcel service would be nice however, online shopping should be increasing interest in that product.
rpledge··on Show HN: Github for recipes
I like it. You need to improve the editor (normal people won't understand markup, just have a text box for ingredients, another for directions and a list for images).

You also need tags so I can tag a recipe as 'Asian' or 'BBQ' to make it organizable.

rpledge··on My Web Series Was Suspended by YouTube Without Explanation
I hate to see anyone build a business based on one platform. I haven't looked at your content, but I'm pretty sure the biggest web video producer I know of (Leo Laporte/TWiT.tv) would disagree with your comment. Gain audience any way you can before trying to monetize.
rpledge··on My Web Series Was Suspended by YouTube Without Explanation
Why aren't you posting your content on the other services you mentioned anyway?
rpledge··on Google's Street View car hits donkey, keeps driving
It looks to me like the donkey started rolling around in the dirt after the car went by.... (Disclaimer: I know nothing about donkeys). Its interesting that you can kind of see what happened by shuffling forward and back on the images.
rpledge··on Banjo Tooie for N64 finally cracked
I guess the DRM was strong enough for this product, it's past its shelf life now. Or is this a case of no one really wanting to pirate the game badly enough to put in the effort to crack it?
rpledge··on Auto-Threading Compilers Are Here
Larger caches is an option for using the extra die area. RAM access times aren't increasing at anywhere near the rate that CPU power has.
rpledge··on Supreme Court of Canada Voids Viagra Patent for Insufficient Disclosure
With generic drugs coming on the market, Pfizer will certainly soon face some stiff competition.
rpledge··on Google Glasses Make Their Questionable Debut at (New York Fashion Week)
Perhaps the goal is to get mainstream people accustomed to seeing people wearing the odd looking device. I don't think they look all that fashionable, but I could say the same about other things at most fashion shows.

Maybe by having them at fashions shows, they become fashionable? There is some kind of self fulling prophecy here....

rpledge··on Bitcoinica MtGox account compromised
Ouch.... http://qrauth.com - Login using QR codes

Password is stored on your iOS device and securely transported to the site you're login into when you scan a QR code. No more excused for duplicate/easy to remember passwords!

rpledge··on New gTLD Applied-For Strings
.dot would be funny, imagine telling people to go to dot.dot or even slashdot.dot
rpledge··on I Up Vote Every 'Show HN' Post and You Should Too
Wow, good job. A search function would be great (apologies if I missed it).
rpledge··on Core iOS apps being replaced, one at a time
There is a difference between how easy it is and if Apple wants to allow it. The percentage of people who want to do this on a widely adopted consumer platform like iOS is small. I doubt Apple will ever allow this, it wouldn't significantly increase sales vs. support complexity/platform simplicity. Considering Apple is extracting the majority of the dollars from the smartphone market already I doubt they're too worried about losing the tweakers to Android.
rpledge··on German Police Used Only 85 Bullets Against People in 2011
No, terminal velocity will limit the fall speed to be much less

rpledge··on Quote Stream - Push real-time stock quotes in JSON over web-sockets with node.js
You can get those feeds, but they're very expensive. High frequency trading is done using actual real time data at millisecond resolution. The barrier to entry is very high, which is why I think flash trading gives an unfair advantage to the wealthy. Of course, thats really the story of modern economics.....
rpledge··on Quote Stream - Push real-time stock quotes in JSON over web-sockets with node.js
Yeah, while this is cool I'm sure it's a violation of Googles TOS. I'm sure they'd enforce it if this gets traction.
