rphillips··on SendGrid isn’t emailing about ICE or BLM – it’s a phishing attack
The first rule doesn't match a specific sender. Run it through a re2 regex tester.
rphillips··on SendGrid isn’t emailing about ICE or BLM – it’s a phishing attack
If using GSuite then head to the Gmail admin panel and create a compliance rule with 2 regex expressions.

1. Add expressions to: If ALL of the following match the message.

2. Expression 1: Type: Advanced content match Location: Full headers Match type: Matches regex (?im)^from:\sSendGrid(?:\s+\w+)\s*<[^>\r\n]+>+$

3. Expression 2: Type: Advanced content match Location: Sender header Match type: Not matches regex (?i)^[A-Za-z0-9._%+-]+@(sendgrid\.com|twilio\.com)$

Set the rule to reject or quarantine. Users will not see the messages unless the attackers change the From header.

rphillips··on WPEngine, Inc. vs. Automattic– Order on Motion for Preliminary Injunction
First amendment right is against the government; not other companies and individuals.
rphillips··on Ask HN: Are we all burned out?
There are inputs and outputs to life. Many, many, many things try to consume our ability to consume inputs. By consuming these inputs there is less time to create an output. These outputs are super important and can be anything: sports, 3d printing, art, woodworking, musical instrument, gardening, other hobbies or projects, etc.

The phone is an easy input to pickup. Make it easy to pickup something else to occupy that time to create something tangible (an output). Other comments mention "real world" and it is so true. Do something that rewards yourself in the real world. It'll be great for your kid too.

rphillips··on Ask HN: What are you working on?
I made a tool to take my Kindle highlights and import them into a SQLite database wrapped in a Datasette website. https://github.com/rphillips/datasette-kindle-highlights

rphillips··on YouTube-dl's repository has been restored
It will be nice when the RIAA lawyers start submitting PRs to fix an issue.
rphillips··on Tim Sweeney on Apple and Google
Check out the latest filing by Apple. Epic removed the IAP from Apple and only is allowing the Epic store purchases.
rphillips··on Tim Sweeney on Apple and Google
+1, Sweeney took the low road by violating his contract with Apple, removing Apple IAP from the existing Fortnight on people's iOS devices, and generally making a point by doing it the wrong way. Two wrongs do not make a right.
rphillips··on How to Find New Music
+1 to KEXP and KCRW (and KCRW's Eclectic 24). KEXP plays a ton of great music of different varieties of music, some of which, I wouldn't normally listen to.
rphillips··on Status.github.com: “We're failing over a data storage system”
Sounds like an engineer knee deep in diagnosing the issue.
rphillips··on Ask HN: How do you organize your files
I do something very similar. I save files into a watched folder with Hazel (Google Drive, Dropbox and my Downloads folder). Hazel has a rule to rename the file with the YYYYMMDD_Filename.ext, and then depending on the extension filters it to a different folder, or with a PDF runs an OCR on it and stores it in Devonthink Pro.
rphillips··on How to Hide $400M
The article alludes to the fact the caretaker or the older gentleman removed the laptop and documents, or someone else in the employ of the husband.
rphillips··on Yahoo Announces Public Disclosure of National Security Letters
Gotcha. Thanks for the clarification.
rphillips··on Yahoo Announces Public Disclosure of National Security Letters
Does anyone else find it odd that these letters are not signed by a judge and are signed by the 'Special Agent in Charge?'
rphillips··on Hex.pm: Package manager for the Erlang ecosystem
Not a new project, but a new website.
rphillips··on FBI May Demand iOS Source Code, Signing Key
It feels like the FBI has been caught with their hand in the cookie jar. They have at least one judge saying they have overreached, a House of Representatives hearing where the head of the FBI got dressed down, and a hearing on the 22nd with a ton of support for Apple from tech companies and other researchers. It feels like a desperate attempt to salvage a losing battle.

rphillips··on GCHQ taps fibre-optic cables for secret access to world's communications
It is likely that internal user data within Facebook (and other websites) is not encrypted, and can be freely snooped between the backend servers and the frontend servers.
rphillips··on Monitor Any Cloud Or Web Infrastructure With New Rackspace Cloud Monitoring
We started working on teleportation but accidentally beamed a family of Ceti Eels into the lab. They infected the entire team.

rphillips··on Vmail - A Gmail client in Vim
I have found gmail's IMAP service to be slow (only fetching 100 headers at a time). Perhaps others have had a better experience.
rphillips··on US busts Google, Apple, Intel over secret employee poaching pact
The local level is a good place to start; however, I believe the problem is more rampant. Google, Apple, and Pixar are mostly California companies. Google and Apple do have offices here in Texas where I work, and their policies were in affect here too. So the problem crosses state boundaries, which would need a Federal fix.
rphillips··on US busts Google, Apple, Intel over secret employee poaching pact
Agreed. This decision is a good thing.

I have first hand experience with the anti-poaching policy, since I work for a different company that employs the same practice.

When I was searching for a job within town I was told by recruiting firms and other companies that they could not and would not talk to me, because of the agreements they have with my employer.

It makes searching for a job extremely difficult as one might suspect. It is effectively a job monopoly, since wages become fixed due to the lack of competition for jobs.

For the longer term, I would like to see a federal law enacted against the anti-poaching employment practice.

rphillips··on Using GNU Screen to perform a command line demo
Very cool. I love vim and never came across this post. In fact, the link to Jerris Welt's post on 'Scripting screen for fun and profit' [1] seems handy also.

rphillips··on MP3 sound quality: Good enough
I was just talking to friends about this the other day. MP3s are convenient, but the fidelity isn't the same as a CD (or the nuisances of a record). Are we lowering our standards as a society, because we don't have time for Xbox, TV, Music, and Family. For the most part music is timeless. Will we get to the point where MP3s will be the only distribution medium and we lose the timelessness of Music? Perhaps we already have.
