royal_ts··on Show HN: Mador – Make any DOM reactive with a tiny 80-line Proxy state tuple
The TC39 proposal seems pretty much dead :(; it doesn't look like much is happening. If I understand it correctly, it's really just about agreeing on a protocol, and it's ultimately up to frameworks to implement it, there isn't anything (yet?) that can run directly in JavaScript.
royal_ts··on Claude Code's DX is too good. And that's a problem

royal_ts··on Tell Mozilla: it's time to ditch Google
or to invest in Servo
royal_ts··on HTML Form Validation is underused
I was thinking that it's so weird to talk about using standard HTML validation and then everything is shown with React? If we want to teach people how standard works, we can't assume React as the default.
royal_ts··on Emoji as a Favicon Using SVG (2022)
at least for google it does render my svg favicon in their search result page, Bing and DuckDuckGo didn't
royal_ts··on Web components are okay
While that link is great advice it's not 100% true that you need to have JS enabled to render anything in a web component - there's declarative shadow dom. Also while it's also true to depend on as little as possible JavaScript it's also required for some accessibility aspects. You can get far with only HTML and CSS but not always all the way.
royal_ts··on My daughter (7 years old) used HTML to make a website
Cute page but what's the cloudflare analytics for
royal_ts··on My daughter (7 years old) used HTML to make a website
it's so cute, I love everything about it
royal_ts··on Window-swap – open a new window somewhere in the world
Definitely isn't live as it has shown me Paris which is in the same time zone as I am and it's already way past midnight and it's been bright daylight there
royal_ts··on Stop EU Chat Control
European Accessibility Act for 2025 is also great
royal_ts··on PSA: Intel Graphics Drivers Now Collect Telemetry by Default
"very very" was a bit exaggerated but it's far from perfect. There's always something. I'm using KDE neon which should be as new as it gets. For multi monitor: it forgets that I had a second desktop, renders it black, switching between two monitors and none is also error prone.. it's not "bad" I'm used to it but as I said, some bug been here for a while now.
royal_ts··on PSA: Intel Graphics Drivers Now Collect Telemetry by Default
KDE is great but also very, very buggy. I'm using it since 2016 and some bugs just won't go away and good luck with openeing a bug report - nobody will care. Especially multi monitor support just isn't good. Multi window support is also, by default, not as good as Windows does it. Sicne a few updates I'm getting some polciykit errors everytime I'm doing anything session related just because - I have not found a solution since then.
royal_ts··on Google Is Shutting Down Album Archive
That lists just about everything even if an app just got merged 1:1 into another app. It's so dumb and doesn't even add context, may be valid to add in this case but often it's just dumb
royal_ts··on Windows 11 in Svelte
Sure I agree that this is far more accurate of what one can do but you can't expect that from people working, managing their day to day life, family and so on. It's one thing we don't expect in other industries in that way
royal_ts··on Alphabet Earnings Report Q3 2022 [pdf]
have fun with that on a TV or other devices
royal_ts··on Pico.js – A face-detection library in 200 lines of JavaScript (2018)
it's a cool library, I've used it in my bachelor's thesis applied to a camera stream
royal_ts··on Master Styles – The First Virtual CSS Engine
yes you can, it's known as css custom properties
royal_ts··on Open Web Advocacy
I have not found any "good reasons" in the usual issues you'd find to be honest. Many of those harmful reasons are dealt with and tbh where does it differ that much from normal apps? NFC especially. Also: if there would be any issues then try find solutions for that?
royal_ts··on Dropbox Capture
There's literally a GIF showing what it does
royal_ts··on Leaving the Apple ecosystem behind
In which world is MacOS window management good? It's comically bad. The splittscreen feature alone is a bad joke
royal_ts··on IndexedDB is completely broken in latest Safari
I never understood why that's the case; on Android you can submit your PWA to the Playstore easily via Trusted Web Activities - Apple could just do the same thing to monetize Webapps.. don't quite understand what's hindering them here
royal_ts··on IndexedDB is completely broken in latest Safari
> And from what we've seen in Monterey they are continuing to invest heavily in improving it.

lol, no. they're not. Safari specially on mobile is a joke and a bad one at it. Their whole strategy is to pull you into there Appstore and monetize every part of it and keep Webapps at a disadvantage

royal_ts··on LaMDA: Google's New Conversation Technology
There's a clear decline in understanding what's being said with Google assistant and it's like this for a while now. I'm using this stuff since 2010ish when it was still called Google Now and it could do more for you back then.

Nowadays it doesn't know what I mean when I ask "what bus do I have to take to get to Dave". First of all, it doesn't know what to do with contacts anymore. Second: you have to say "what public transportation do I have to take to get to [Dave's location]". It just doesn't know that a bus or tram is interchangeable with public transport. Another example is asking for the last train home. Nowadays it will list you like 3 trains trains from now on but not the last one which would be hours away. Asking for when the next train comes is the same, it knows the answer but shows a list instead without saying anything.

It just gets worse and worse so that the only thing which works reliable is asking for the weather and setting alarms - which works like this for over 10 years.

I have a very hard time believing that this will result in a product we can use and if so: it will be in English only forever. Speaking of english only: their live translation overlay and their recorder app were some selling points for the Pixel at this time and to this day it's only available in English and that's it. Same for their "better artificially generated voices"

It's only marketing and I don't believe we will get anything out of this ever and if we do it's nothing like this at all.

royal_ts··on Firefox 80
Is there any kind of road for when to expect installable Web Apps the way it's possible in Chrome and Edge?
royal_ts··on Google is not a search engine, but an ad engine
But the majority of people won't change if it's not clearly better, why would they? Also most of this doesn't matter if you are using AdBlock (or whatever) anyway. Of course this isn't ideal. Sure it might work for some using DDG, but it does not for the majority.
royal_ts··on Google is not a search engine, but an ad engine
break out of your bubble. Try using DDG with sth. else than english. Then try sth. related to programming. Good luck. I'm so tired of people claming that DDG is better in every aspect, it's not.
royal_ts··on WebKit Goals for 2020
No. It should be done the way like Slack does it: - You want to get Notifications for Messages? Click here

So that you actually know what it's used for

royal_ts··on Quiet.js – Transmit and receive data in the browser at 44.1kHz
Google uses this kind of Authentication for Chromecast when a User isn't connected to the same Network as the Chromecast is. This way you can still send Videos. It's called Guest Mode or something and is Opt-in
royal_ts··on Flutter looks good, but is painful
I don't get the part about Scrolling. It doesn't feel not native it feels incredible fluid, smooth as butter.
royal_ts··on Electron 6.0
