roscas··on Anybody has experience with maintaining self hosted Git?
Last time I ran Gitlab free on a VM, I could feel how heavy it was. And complicated. So for self hosting I won't do that, nor for a company.

Gitea is amazing, small, fast. Does pipelines and all you want.

roscas··on Is startpage.com mining Bitcoin when you open it?
Thanks, but makes no sense to use 100% of the CPU power on the browser just to detect or stop AI scrapers?

Let's use all the power of a CPU during 30 seconds and save humanity from AI crap. Makes no sense at all.

Let's also make people wait 30 seconds to type something to search. People will just stop using this crap.

Thank you for your tip but this is beyong stupid. Let me just add startpage to blocked domains list.

Thanks again.

roscas··on One of China's Most Powerful AI Models Has Also Escaped Containment
"You’ve read your last free article.". Another one for the blocked list.

As always, have an uBlock Origin to block all the crap the site loads. Like all other sites also.

roscas··on Musk and Altman back Anthropic CEO on slowing AI down
Oh boy, Yahoo getting money just to compare that one with Altman and Anthropic CEO.
roscas··on LG Denies Accusations of Smart TVs Continuously Recording Its Users
The only statment LG should produce is "Like everyone else, we also want your data.".

Fixed. Move on.

roscas··on Anthropic CEO calls for the AI industry to slow down
"slow down... we need to slow down the competition, while putting full power on ours."
roscas··on LG denies TV spying claims, says tracking and snooping concerns 'not true'
People worried about LG. Use Android, iOS and Windows. Use Facebook and TikTok! Use WhatApp and get shocked TikTok keeps all data, video, images, text and reads it. Same as WhatsApp. Drive a Tesla. Have that Ring on the door and other devices.

Go figure. People are strange.

And yes, that ME and PSP are on every cpu since I can't remember, Thinkpad T60 was probably one of the last ones without spy tech.

roscas··on Ask HN: What would make you pay $1 per month for a social media?
That makes no sense. If antisocial "media" platforms make 1000's out of you, while you think that is a "free service", it makes sense for them to pay you, not the other way around.
roscas··on Fresh: Terminal based IDE and text editor: easy, powerful and fast
What a nice surprise, I need to use it a bit but wow amazing work I see in the first minutes of testing.
roscas··on U.S. auto companies call for ban on Chinese-made cars
"without similar government subsidization" has any US company ever given such incentives? Or accept rescue or any money for gov?

In Europe take a look at VW, owned by the German gov. They are in trouble only because their CEO's and others who decide where they should go and do, they have no idea what they are doing. Zero. Grab a random person on the street and make it VW CEO that it will be much better.

roscas··on Ask HN: How do I make sure ChatGPT/Claude/Gemini forget all prior conversations?
I think he means that on the server side, it always recall the previous chats.
roscas··on Ask HN: How do I make sure ChatGPT/Claude/Gemini forget all prior conversations?
First of all, they never ever never will delete anything. Same as Google or Facebook, they never ever delete a single byte. Even if you permanent delete and they say they deleted something. And that is no secret, Facebook says that.

They need to implement a way to start fresh. Until that happens, handle it.

The only way to start fresh is to use your own models at home. They always start fresh.

Why do you need those online models? Probably you get the same exact ouput from most of offline models.

roscas··on Stopping the smart TV from being used against you
Wise words "Never give ANY smart device internet.".

That is just stupid to give internet access to a "smart" tv or a "smart" phone. You have zero control over it.

roscas··on Meta reaches $17B settlement over social media harms to children
Meta pays smartphone makers to pre-install the Facebook app. And 3 more hidden services. Don't just remove the FB app, you need to remove all from FB because they will still continue to follow you.
roscas··on Meta's Big Reckoning Is Here
This content is behind a paywall.
roscas··on Zuckerberg lied about concern for child safety
Always remember that Facebook pays phone makers to install 4 Facebook apps on the phones.

If you remove the Facebook app, there are still 3 hidden services that keep telling Facebook all you do on the smartphone.

You need to connect the smartphone with "Developer mode" active and enable Debug so you can connect via adb and list and remove the apps.

You might need to install Andoid SDK that has adb command works on Windows and Linux.

You can remove the spyware malware from Facebook with this commands:

adb shell pm uninstall --user 0 com.facebook.appmanager

adb shell pm uninstall --user 0 com.facebook.katana

adb shell pm uninstall --user 0 com.facebook.services

adb shell pm uninstall --user 0 com.facebook.system

This works on Samsung and Redmi but should work on most smartphones.

You should install some kind of local VPN to block internet access for any app and allow only apps that you need or trust. NoRootFirewall is a great option.

Also install a PiHole so it can resolve ads/spyware/malware before it reaches the net and block all Facebook domains.

roscas··on Who's Tracking You? Use DecryptAds to Find Out
Why trust any data the site presents, when you search for facebook and it shows nothing about that site. The worst data mining company of the world and shows nothing. I haven't tried google but I bet it is the same zero info. This reminds me of ryanair that only has the facebook pixel on the checkout page, so anyone checking the site will report it as fb pixel free!!!
roscas··on Ask HN: Do you use LLMs for non-coding related work?
Replaced wife, kids and mistress with chatgpt. The advantages are huge savings and much better talks. Finally someone who understands me and it is always ready. It does the laundry! All home work. Cuts the grass, shopps online for me... do gamming together... chatgpt is a women right? RIGHT??

roscas··on True open-source LLM Apertus 1.5 released
Access to model swiss-ai/Apertus-v1.5-8B is restricted. You must have access to it and be authenticated to access it. Please log in.

That would be good to use it on Ollama as HF needs auth. No thanks.

roscas··on Ask HN: Why are Meta products so bad?
They changed their name to Meta but it is still Facebook.

Still, Facebook is just a data mining company.

Others give them money for them to put ads on your eyes and they do all they can to get as much data possible from you.

Like all companies they produce some good and bad things, but you are the product.

roscas··on TikTok violating EU regulations on privacy rights, according to an investigation

roscas··on LG ThinQ Terms of Use
GDPR? Oh the Great Data Robbing Directive.

Also known as the Gross Data Privacy Regime enabler.

Funny part is that some people think that is a good thing and it works.

roscas··on LG ThinQ Terms of Use
I do have a few LG and one has internet access for NetFlix and crap. But I'm blocking almost every other connection for years because it's too abusive.

But this extends to Android devices, Windows, etc.

Almost every device that has internet, will do this. We have to thank the advertising ** people for this. But internet is broken almost from the start. They just got it impossible to use without protection to ads and spyware.

roscas··on LG ThinQ Terms of Use
That has to be everybody fav! It should be printed on t-shirts!

When he talks about friends coming over "listen guys my tv will record your voices and take pictures and videos... sign here..." OMFG!!!

roscas··on LG ThinQ Terms of Use
Quick fix, remove networking access for all devices, not just LG devices.

But since you did that remotely, you probably do that from a "smart" phone. That one is worst than this LG device.

Have you read terms of service of Android devices? Windows? Apple?

Microsoft like Gamers Nexus show on the video, writes down that this practices are malware and illegal and does exact the same thing.

Gamers Nexus amazing review of that LG https://youtu.be/Q9uefFYe6bM
