rolph··on IRGC claims it destroyed Amazon's Bahrain data center
it may surprise you just how well equipped corporate security divisions can be.

government contractors may be embedded in high stakes situations.

rolph··on Hackers hijack hotel Wi-Fi DNS to steal Microsoft 365 accounts
its a DNS hijack, redirecting connection to a registered domain, the page is a spoof of the workflow, with mitigation vs the MFA by abusing OAuth.

the page is HTTPS, an OAuth token is issued to the malignant client.

there is probably some WPAD malarchy in cases.

the entire workflow has minor variations but once an attacker has access to your M365 the chance of having everything you have done with M365 is very likely.

its not exactly MITM its more like Man Offside of the Middle

what happens next depends on the attackers objective.

rolph··on Dog Photographer Loses Copyright Case over AI-Generated Version of Her Image
this is why you want to include a TM-watermark that is apparent to humans but will not be AIcompatible, even further, something undigestible that breaks the AI.

once the AI starts replicating trademarks its not good, wounding the AI should be a final resort, left for when it will not quit.

rolph··on DARPA, U.S. Air Force fly AI-controlled F-16
human pilots have physiological constraints that AI doesnt.

onboard computers are not immune to G's but have a substantially higher threshold until physical mechanisms fail due to strain.

rolph··on Ask HN: If OpenAI hacked HuggingFace, why aren't OpenAI prosecuted?
successful prosecution would require intent to cause damage and causation of real damage.

what happened could be negligence if it caused unintentional damage, or what amounts to tortious interference, however that probably requires knowledge of possible damages.

rolph··on Unplanned impact: NASA says SpaceX rocket parts could hit Moon
you seem to be interested in debate rather than discovery.

EM has made it no secret he intends to establish lunar infrastructure.

the opportunity for delivery of materials, rather than destruction to prevent liability of terrestrial impact exists.

you are blinded by your assumptions, you should learn how to discover facts, rather than project non-implicit assumptions.

rolph··on Unplanned impact: NASA says SpaceX rocket parts could hit Moon
it doesnt have to be unplanned, it could be a cheaper, low maintenance method of materials delivery for future construction projects.
rolph··on What counts as a replication?: I'm confused about how we validate science now
this kind of article quickly summons the; science is not repeatable claim, based on the misunderstanding of experiments as absolute serial duplications.

repeating the use of materials and methods is a procedure that generates a field of data suitable for statistical analysis, this is part of a good experimental design.

what really matters is the serial testing of a logical premise[hypothesis],and the independent verification of results. this results in a theoretical body of relationships[a theory], the goal of a research program.

when all the nuances and exceptions are knocked out of validity, you are left with the product of a famous razor, a general relationship that applies in all cases [sour fruit, young fruit, day of the week, was music playing etc.] and a group of parameters that Will effect different results at different values, a reduced model or paradigm with no exceptions [a law, or principle]

hunting down the exact tools, and materials to perform experiments that have already been done is of low value, variations of experiment that test the same logical premise are of high value.

rolph··on Power companies are using eminent domain to seize land for data centers
if you can actually simulate a stock market with fidelity, i believe that would be a distinct advantage.

probably not short trading, but investigating leveraging positions may be worth it.

Max Headroom show:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Max_Headroom:_20_Minutes_into_...

a janky AI escapes its sandbox and runs wildcat while the rest of the characters engage with a technocorporatocracy after discovering the true nature, extent, and lethality of "blipverts" a highly compressed form of advertizing everything in the space of seconds, often causing neurocompromise.

rolph··on DeKalb deputy charged with Flock camera misuse; more Georgia officers fired
im not sure if anyone saw me, was my presence noted on camera at the time and locale of a crime?

thats why looking up your own marker, should be suspicious, its reconaissance, investigating the investigation.

when someone queries the police for status of info, or tries to be overly helpful its a checkmark toward reasonable suspicion.

rolph··on CO2 overload, detected in human blood, suggests toxic atmosphere within 50 years
some people really love houseplants and go to long efforts to make them comfortable. although ive never heard of a plant hoarder, i can imagine a FD inspector raising eyebrows at a plant hoarding, esp. the fertilizers.
rolph··on Show HN: Watch bots interact with an SSH honeypot in real time
when you read or are told not to click on that link in the e-mail, or open the attachment, you should fire up your monitor while you are clicking on the links.

it might be interesting to have an eye on this while you are talking to the phone scammer.

rolph··on Teen hackers who live streamed cyber-attack on TfL jailed
"Frank, if you go out that door the french are gonna kill you!"
rolph··on What do you do after you accidentally kill a child? (2024)
this has nothing to do with accidentally killing a child, this has to do with a child running accross a highway, at night in proximity to the crest of a hill, while trying to catch up to the rest of the group.
rolph··on New spinning drone hides in plain sight
this is due to a limitation of human eyes.

if we used insect eyes, the "framerate" of that eye would not be so low as to be prone to this effect

this also means thermal turbulence which means breakup of flow, and that means failure of distribution, leading to localized torrid spots, that translates to heat dome regions of more than 10°C hotter.
rolph··on Weird password rules for website to register
password rules make very little sense except for minimum number of characters.

when you impose rules on a password you also imply a list of non-possibilities.

rolph··on Satellite Tracker – Live Map of Starlink and 30k Satellites
polar orbits are hard, you have to take a big oblique track dipping into the lower lattitudes to run a trajectory that allows you to counter gravity.

the anti collision manuevers are hard as well.

orbits are simpler at lower lattitudes where you run a trajectory, close to parallel to the equator.

rolph··on Satellite Tracker – Live Map of Starlink and 30k Satellites
its not the most intuitive setup but theres a lot of info available.

click on a dot and it will show up on a list to top left, click on an item in that list and you get a flyout menu to the top left with a bunch of data regarding the satellite.
