rokhayakebe··on Ask HN: What are you working on? (September 2026)
It would interesting to expand this into a catalog of potentially serious problems where the solution is always "the fix costs nothing."
rokhayakebe··on A.I. Companies Are Recruiting Electricians and Carpenters by the Thousands
Sure, but in 4 years you'll have the skills to go on your own.
rokhayakebe··on Are we offloading too much of our thinking to AI?
We had Mental Math sessions in class. The goal was to teach you how to do math without pen/paper, calculators were not even an option. I try to teach some of this to my 6 y o.
rokhayakebe··on Demis Hassabis has a plan to harness AI safely
If we get to AGI, the first step governments will take is ensure only a few countries are allowed to have it. Just like Nuclear.

rokhayakebe··on Doing nothing at work
This goes beyond work. A self made friend told me "if you are always working when will you have time to make money?" We all need free mental space to think.

rokhayakebe··on Talkie: a 13B vintage language model from 1930
*What do you think the world will look like in 2025 TALKIE-1930*

According to a forecast by an eminent statistician, the world will, in 2025, support a population of 6,600,000,000. All Europe will be one vast network of railways, and travellers will be able to go from London to Constantinople in forty hours, and from London to Peking in a week. The globe will be girdled with telegraph wires, and messages will be sent from New York to Calcutta in a few minutes. The Atlantic will be crossed in four days, and the voyage to Australia will be accomplished in a month. In 2025, mankind will be united by spoken language, and one uniform currency will be adopted by all nations. In that era, also, universal peace may be expected, for standing armies will have become obsolete, and the art of war will be forgotten. The earth will yield nourishment to its inhabitants in abundance, for waste lands will have been reclaimed, and the deserts will be made fertile. The bowels of the earth will have been completely explored, and coal and metals will no longer be dug from the quarry. The great coal fields will have become exhausted, and an universal scarcity of fuel will compel men to turn their attention to other sources of heat. For a time, chemical agency will be tried, but in the end, recourse will be had to the sun's rays, and the power of waterfalls will be made available for all purposes of life. The earth will have been thoroughly drained, and malarious diseases will be unknown. The art of healing will have been simplified, and diseases will be cured speedily and surely. Ignorance will no longer be suffered to exist, and elementary knowledge will be imparted to all. Then, too, will commence an era of good taste. Architecture will be freed from ugliness, sculpture will be disentangled from barbarism, and painting will cease to be hideous. Music will no longer be discord, and poetry will be something better than..

rokhayakebe··on Ask HN: How to be alone?
+1 Moving to a city.
rokhayakebe··on Ask HN: How to be alone?
If you aren't already start working out daily and learn to make healthy meals. Not necessarily to help with loneliness, but to prevent having another problem that will only make the first worst.

If you can work from a coffee shop, if you can afford a coworking space, do it. Plus one if the new office/coffee shop is a bit far from your house.

Call your parents daily if you can.

rokhayakebe··on Where things stand with the Department of War
But a civilian should have the right to participate in defense and not offense without fear of retribution or being humiliated. They are not the only game in town. All the DOW had to do was drop them, pick Openai and support the latter including recommending it to all the nations that listen to the president. That would be good for Openai business.
rokhayakebe··on Where things stand with the Department of War
They have the same what and why, but they don't agreee on the how.
rokhayakebe··on Where things stand with the Department of War
Well you cannot be responsible for adults' discernment or their critical thinking. If those same ads are being shown to children that would be different.
rokhayakebe··on Where things stand with the Department of War

rokhayakebe··on The Risks of AI in Schools Outweigh the Benefits, Report Says
So social media significantly reduces the ability to think critically. AI, if brought up too early in one's life, will reduce the ability to think at all. It makes sense, imo. Who needs to think when you have lost your ability to interact with others, can work from home, can get groceries without leaving the house, have decided to not procreate.
rokhayakebe··on Sergey Brin's Unretirement
Humans spent thousands of years living in small groups where everyone had to be useful. When all of sudden you stop working and sit in your corner, you are doing something that run against thousands of years of evolution.
rokhayakebe··on Take One Small Step
If you are having trouble working out, first get into the habit of going to the gym first. Make it a habit to go even for less than 5 minutes. The more you go, the longer you'll stay.
rokhayakebe··on Real Biological Clock Is You're Going to Die (2018)
I feel we should have children as early as possible between 18 and 30, but we should also stay together with our parents. Grandparents can raise their grandchildren. They would do a better job. The problem is now everyone wants to go on their own, separate from the community, then call modern life difficult.
rokhayakebe··on ManusAI Joins Meta
Do people really think Mark is simple? At his level a billion is not what you and I think it is. To most it's money to him it's just accounting with no negative financial impact whatsoever.
rokhayakebe··on ManusAI Joins Meta
Sometimes I feel people are just jealous. If Meta is so ready to throw money why don't these people just build something and sell it to them for billions in 6 months. Join the winning side instead of complaining.
