rodolphoarruda··on From: Steve Jobs. "Great idea, thank you."
Nice story! I loved reading it.
rodolphoarruda··on Minimum Viable Blog
Thank you for putting the effort to keep the open web alive, especially by sharing this simple though effective tool. I use Wordpress and like it. I learned to enjoy using it when I stopped reading "pros & cons" bulleted lists about it.
rodolphoarruda··on Datastar: Web Framework for the Future?
I just wanted to say I love this entire "ecosystem", if I may call it. Hypermedia is cool. HTMX looks like the natural evolution of HTML we all were expecting from the 90s. The simplicity of hx tags and the fact they get the work done is really refreshing. Datastar looks promising as well. It is already on my radar for a hobby project. Kudos to the dev team!
rodolphoarruda··on Standard Ebooks: liberated ebooks, carefully produced for the true book lover
For Android, Moon Reader Pro.

Unmatched UI tweaking features which make reading a pleasure. Syncs bookmarks with cloud services, thus across different devices.

rodolphoarruda··on Coolify: Open-source and self-hostable Heroku / Netlify / Vercel alternative
FYI your clubs directory is down. (at least for me)
rodolphoarruda··on RIP Val Kilmer: Real Genius .. the Film Nerd Culture Deserves (2015)
For a period of time, I couldn't tell if Val Kilmer was Jim Morrison or it was the other way around. Will be missed.
rodolphoarruda··on Ask HN: What are you working on? (March 2025)
Working on a products/services trends discovery and analysis tool for small and medium businesses.
rodolphoarruda··on Gemini 2.5
I've been trying to use Gemini 2.0 Flash, but I don't think it's possible. The model still thinks it's running the 1.5 Pro model.

rodolphoarruda··on The Pain That Is GitHub Actions
Sidenote --

What a cool looking website. What kind of tool do you need to create those animations?

rodolphoarruda··on Just Write
I totally agree with the post. Now, regarding: "Don’t over-engineer your site", I'd say sometimes it's good to add some engineering to it. To put an effort. If you had zero effort to put your website (or public notepad) online, it won't cause much regret to shut it down. So a decent effort would at least cause a second thinking before shutting it down, as you would remember the time you had dedicated to it for the infrastructure and content itself.
rodolphoarruda··on Apple's Best Option: Decentralize iCloud
What is the motivation of UK's lawmakers to push this forward? Why are they doing this?
rodolphoarruda··on Why blog if nobody reads it?
I don't remember what I had for lunch a couple of weeks ago, but that's not important at all. At least, not to me.

I didn't take the C-19 vaccine. I don't remember exactly why. For that I have a blog post I can go to and refresh my memory.

My blog is my journal, but in a fancy format which makes it harder to be forgotten in a park or in a bus trip.

rodolphoarruda··on Ideas from "A Philosophy of Software Design"
> the book frequently falls back on discussing things in a very OOP centric way

I do procedural most of the time. Do you think I can still benefit from reading the book? Judging from the summary in blog post, it seems to be a nice read even for non-OOP code. It's just my first impression though.

rodolphoarruda··on Mouseless – fast mouse control with the keyboard
Ok, I just sent this to all my ex-IBM colleagues. They were so shy at the time, +20 years ago, to say the little word "clit" in formal meetings, especially with customers. I think they used "the red dot mouse pointer thing" in formal settings. Informally, it was the eternal short name: "the clit".
rodolphoarruda··on Mozilla VPN misses catching the big wave in Brazil
The company launched its VPN service weeks after the conflict between the country's Supreme Court and X.com was resolved.
rodolphoarruda··on ArchiveBox is evolving: the future of self-hosted internet archives
> "In an era where fear of public scrutiny is very tangible, people are afraid of archiving things for eternity. As a result, people choose not to archive at all, effectively erasing that history forever."

Really? I don't get that feeling at all. I use Evernote to archive anything I consider worth keeping. I wonder where such "fear of archiving" comes from.

rodolphoarruda··on Thunderbird Android client is K-9 Mail reborn, and it's in solid beta
I would love to see it released with a fingerprint lock feature (Android).
rodolphoarruda··on The Static Site Paradox
CMSes like Bludit are a good option for users who want a simpler structure and a small footprint. Themes are still very limited though.
rodolphoarruda··on Ask HN: What's the "best" book you've ever read?
Dune Chronicles, the 8 books, as I consider them one single long story told in +4000 pages. The God Emperor of Dune (4th book) I consider to be the apex of the story.
rodolphoarruda··on Digital Tools I Wish Existed (2019)
I would like to see Evernote's AI evolve to a point where it would process my ~4500 item knowledge base (KB) of personal notes, clipping and documents, and then allow me to ask questions that would be answered based on that volume of information.
rodolphoarruda··on Plunk: The open source email platform
I'm sorry. That's a triple negative like "no, no, no", an absolute denial.
rodolphoarruda··on Plunk: The open source email platform
The last time I tried to use Sendy with SES I received a NNN from AWS after I stating I would be using it for email marketing (MailChimp alternative). It seems that my "self-hosting" idea was cancelled by a 3rd party.
rodolphoarruda··on The Greatest Educational Life Hack: Learning Math Ahead of Time
If you are native speaker of any language different from English, the greatest educational life hack is to learn English at the earliest time. It opens one's mind and allows access to content and communication at a global level.
rodolphoarruda··on Astronomers see a black hole awaken in real time
The most relevant event to us here is the arrival of Trisolarans in about 400 years.
rodolphoarruda··on Ask HN: How do you structure your shared finances with your spouse/partner
I have a wife and 2 pre teens at home.

All of our fixed costs are shared in a way to promote an equal amount per month per person. For example, I pay my daughter school's tuition and my wife pays of my son's. I pay Netflix, she pays Prime Video, so on and so forth.

For market and groceries, we have a credit card account with two cards. This was a game changer for our home expenses management. I have the total spent per month on a spreadsheet and can see how things are going, especially in regards to inflation, currently at 19%/y where I live.

Everything else like going out with friends, small indulgencies, fuel etc. each one of us would cover his/her own expenses.

rodolphoarruda··on Proton is taking its privacy-first apps to a nonprofit foundation model
By looking at the headline I thought Proton would be changing to become something like Mint Linux and not Ubuntu Linux. But then after reading the article, Proton looks more like Ubuntu with Canonical backing it.
rodolphoarruda··on Being laid off and unplanned entrepreneurship
I saw in your "Moi" page a great emphasis on the domain name. I agree with you. I think domain names are the crystallization of an idea, a message. On the other hand, I see a lot of people from startup bubbles in X making fun of domain registration, suggesting that it is a "low bar" activity and doesn't represent any effort toward building a product. I disagree with this point of view. To me, the name is bound to the vision of a product being used by its customers. I cannot imagine something being used without a name or ID. I believe good names tell a story.
rodolphoarruda··on Apple unveils 'Passwords' manager app at WWDC 2024
And put all the eggs into the same basket? No, thanks. I prefer to spread critical responsibilities among a small group of "little tech" companies that offer clear and concise data portability among them.
rodolphoarruda··on Software MVPs can no longer be low quality
My MVP has a very poor quality UI, and I feel the pain for it. On the other hand, UX is OK and functionality is 100% what its typical persona expects for their business process. So, it works and customers are happy. My everyday wish is to give its UI a revamp, but I don't have the means to do it now.
rodolphoarruda··on Three Laws of Software Complexity
I read this piece with great relief. It's easy for anyone to feel offended/frustrated when coworkers, outsourced teams or even customers twist and turn your system's original clean design, making it badly designed over time. I enjoyed reading the three laws because they make me feel part of an universal problem. Software systems are no different from physical matter: it decays. It's the damn entropy. Who of us would dare to fight against it?
