rodolphoarruda··on Google Removed 749M Anna's Archive URLs from Its Search Results
> you’re copying entire works from unauthorized distributors

Yep, this sounds like an issue. So the idea from MP3 early days of "let me download these files as a backup before I lend my CD collection to my cousin" is not a real option.

rodolphoarruda··on Google Removed 749M Anna's Archive URLs from Its Search Results
A question to the community: would it be a (legal) problem if I decided to download digital copies of the physical books I already have in my bookshelf? I was thinking on using Anna's Archive for that. Hobby project.
rodolphoarruda··on The 512KB Club
I like this website. It's very entertaining to me, and a bit nostalgic too. And those minimalist websites also help us remember the importance of building things to last the effects of time. Most of them are good candidates to stay online for the next 15 or 20 Internet years to come (almost like eternity in human terms).
rodolphoarruda··on Tell HN: Azure outage
I could not access MS Clarity the entire day.
rodolphoarruda··on Keep Android Open
So the last possible community response is to bring back "responsive web apps"(tm) in the browser. And make sure a privacy first mobile web browser is installed.
rodolphoarruda··on Cryptographic Issues in Cloudflare's Circl FourQ Implementation (CVE-2025-8556)
Side note: what a nice background gradient those guys put into that website! It goes from dark sky blue to dry desert soil at the bottom. Nice artistic touch.
rodolphoarruda··on AI is making us work more
> coming up with the right regex

Yes, and this a meme I have in my mind of LLM engineers talking to each other and a balloon: "If we could just get the right regex done in a few seconds we'd win the entire global programming community."

rodolphoarruda··on AI is making us work more
Site is down to me, but I agree with the argument. I speak for myself: I think AI has removed a lot of small barriers that would naturally slow my work down, increasing dissatisfaction and stress with it. Without barriers, productivity increases and with it, work satisfaction. It's just nice to get things done(tm) faster and at a lower effort due to the quality of the virtual assistant.
rodolphoarruda··on Cyberpsychology's Influence on Modern Computing
Do they offer a newsletter subscription for people who don't want to go through a full registration? I could not find it.
rodolphoarruda··on Hyperflask – Full stack Flask and Htmx framework
As a PHP guy and Htmx enthusiast, I wonder if the same result could be achieved with a framework like Slim; having just html files making requests to the middleware via the front-controller.
rodolphoarruda··on Hyperflask – Full stack Flask and Htmx framework
I use it in all my projects. Thank you. The Hypermedia book is incredibly good and "nostalgic" to me, a child of the web 1.0.
rodolphoarruda··on I switched from Htmx to Datastar
Lot of mentions of HTMX along the comments. If you are interested and have the time, read the the first chapters of this book[1]. Very well written and a bit nostalgic I should say, at least to some of us who had lived the web 1.0 days.

rodolphoarruda··on Say Goodbye
The last time I was let go I was given two days to phase my projects out to a colleague. But I also took the time to email/call all the customers I had contact with and asked them to send me an email to my personal account so that we could keep in touch, especially for future referrals. I've got 63 messages. It was such a relief and a joy to get all those messages coming in bitter days like the ones following a lay off.
rodolphoarruda··on The evolution of Lua, continued [pdf]
Yes, with Lapis[1].

rodolphoarruda··on The Beer Can (2023)
For some weird reason I didn't see the option right there... ugh
rodolphoarruda··on The Beer Can (2023)
This is the kind of website I would sign-up for a monthly newsletter with updates.
rodolphoarruda··on Understanding Cultural Differences: The Michigan Fish Test (2013)
I may be depressed. I looked at the picture as soon as it loaded and then read the summary below it. Following the 5-second idea, my eyes were caught by the little frog like figure at the bottom of the image. My initial reaction was like "what is that little frog doing in this fish bow? It's going to be eaten soon."
rodolphoarruda··on Pico CSS – Minimal CSS Framework for Semantic HTML
Pico is great! It's nice to see it hitting HN front page.
rodolphoarruda··on PlanetScale for Postgres
I'm really enjoying the videos. Learning a lot and changing things "as I go" in my new SaaS. Thanks for making the content available.
rodolphoarruda··on PlanetScale for Postgres
off-topic, but from the same website: this gem https://planetscale.com/learn/courses/mysql-for-developers
rodolphoarruda··on Ask HN: What Are You Working On? (June 2025)
A contracts management system for the event/entertainment industry.
rodolphoarruda··on Show HN: Nxtscape – an open-source agentic browser
This is the missing piece from Karpathy's keynote: the browser.

rodolphoarruda··on Show HN: Kan.bn – An open-source alterative to Trello
I agree. UI/UX lacks some basic data like the project start date, which is kind of odd for a PM app.
rodolphoarruda··on Show HN: Kan.bn – An open-source alterative to Trello
> "I couldn’t find an ... alternative ... that I liked so I built my own."

Congrats! That's a brave move. I've been using Kanboard for years. Good luck with your project!

rodolphoarruda··on Ask HN: What are you working on? (May 2025)
1. Consumer demand/trend identification: a tag based survey system that allows companies to identify trends in the market at early stage.

2. Productivity tools for independent sales reps that simulate a Sales supervisor/manager. Fights procrastination and lack of focus on daily activities.

rodolphoarruda··on Business books are entertainment, not strategic tools
Those books switch reader's nob one click up, so they become 1% more informed than the average who haven't read the same content (yet). That 1% looks/sounds incredibly a lot more. "OMG, he said neanderthals and homo-sapiens coexisted somewhere in time. What a genius!". This kind of reaction.
rodolphoarruda··on CryptPad: An Alternative to the Google Suite
In the Cryptpad service? No. Not with the same UX. But you can keep simple markdown notes in it.
rodolphoarruda··on Business books are entertainment, not strategic tools
It may be a waste of time if you had lived long enough to experience vividly the ins and outs of the business world. Taking an extreme example, senior execs who had "climbed from the bottom" in international companies. These people have seen/lived a lot, so no business book can really impress them or show something they haven't already seen. On the flip side, there is a high number of young people eager to learn how things work in the business world, but they don't want to experience everything, every failure, the ups and downs, they want to cut corners. I think for that kind of people business books can add some value, especially the biographical ones. It doesn't need to be the biography of a CEO (e.g. Jobs'). The life story of a great salesperson can change your mindset forever.
rodolphoarruda··on CryptPad: An Alternative to the Google Suite
I have been working on an essay about 'Personal Digital Infrastructures,' a concept of infrastructure that seeks resilience and durability for personal data at a level we typically only see in banks or state institutions. In other words, an infrastructure that can protect your personal data in the face of disasters such as big tech account cancellations, fund blocking, imprisonment, bankruptcy, death, etc. The flagship instance of Cryptpad is the service that comes closest to this idea of infrastructure. The free plan gives you 1GB of storage for files, which is more than enough to store essential data for the continuity of businesses, families, communities, etc. E2E encryption plus zero trust in a free tier is something that should be valued and used to our advantage. Cryptpad is a very powerful resource and should be more appreciated.
