robwormald··on Angular 2 Beta released
There's an optional Http client that uses RxJS Observables - see http://plnkr.co/edit/UQJpd5dA6x45T4PPZRWW for a basic demo that also uses the `async` pipe to subscribe from the view. Of course, the native fetch API works fine too.

Angular2's architecture is split in such a way that the rendering layer is separated from the application code. This allows swapping out the render layer - enables stuff like NativeScript and React Native renderers, server-side universal and running your app in a web-worker, dispatching to the main thread to render.
robwormald··on Angular 2 Beta released
The RxJS support is definitely my favorite thing in Angular2. We have plans for all sorts of cool stuff built on top of Observables. Stay tuned.

there's a very nice strategy for this - the upgrade module allows you to run ng2 components inside of ng1 apps (or vice-versa) so you can incrementally upgrade.

There's a great blog post by the Thoughtram team here : http://blog.thoughtram.io/angular/2015/10/24/upgrading-apps-...

We're playing with all manner of tooling here. Our CLI (broccoli based), Webpack, SystemJS / JSPM, Rollup, etc - we'll also be focusing on HTTP/2 as we move forward.
robwormald··on How Apple Is Giving Design a Bad Name
I love most of my OS X and iOS stuff, and find it easy to use with no major issues. The Apple Music app, however, is the single most frustrating application I have ever used. It is just so, so bad.
robwormald··on Turning the iPhone 6s Into a Digital Scale
brilliant idea!

It's a poor clone at that. Note the Russian? keyboards on the stock art (in one case, flipped horizontal!).

A bit sad really, it was a nice bit of tech, for all their hubris.

I'm not a huge Siri user, but "Hey Siri, set my alarm for 8:50" works great and its something I use all the time, mostly because of what you're describing.
robwormald··on Apple Unveils a More Powerful Apple TV
Which is why having their app on AppleTV makes sense, no? They don't care about the device playing the content, just that they're selling the content.
robwormald··on Apple Unveils a More Powerful Apple TV
suddenly the Apple Game Controller framework makes a whole lot more sense....

robwormald··on Apple Unveils a More Powerful Apple TV
at $39 or whatever it costs, I suspect they aren't making a whole lot of profit on the hardware. They have an iOS app, I expect they'll have an AppleTV pretty rapidly.
robwormald··on New React Developer Tools
Its interesting you use the word "component" about ten times in this post, because that's more or less exactly what Web Components are about - a set of specifications that will (hopefully/theoretically) lead to much greater interop between all this stuff. Polymer is one of the first implementations of a library built on this spec.

Keep in mind though, the environment QT runs in is very different to the web, so most of us poor web devs are at the mercy of browser vendors, and as such we're often limited by the lowest common denominator.

robwormald··on What is ADD?
A great book on this topic is "Driven to Distraction" - I recommend it to anyone curious about ADHD. The first chapter put me in tears - it was like reading a history of my life.
robwormald··on What is ADD?
"Had I been diagnosed 30 years ago, oh the things I could have done" - truer words have never been spoken. I was diagnosed at 28 and it was like when I got glasses in middle school for the first time. "OHHHH, this is what the world is supposed to look like"
robwormald··on Ashley Madison founder steps down
I moderated on OKCupid for years, and this is so, so true.

In fact, it usually went more like:

"Heyyy guurllll lemme holla at you"

"Thanks, but no thanks"

"Fine bitch, you ugly anyway"

That, or dick pics. So many dick pics.

robwormald··on Relay Technical Preview
fwiw Jafar announced last week it would be open sourced in the next couple of weeks [1], and a number of people have access already and are helping with documentation and the like.

Falcor and Relay are conceptually similar but Relay is much more of a query engine, and Falcor isn't so much.

robwormald··on I Hate the New Macbooks
Agreed. I really love my 12" greybook - the 15" feels absolutely GIGANTIC after a couple of weeks on the Macbook. I've got a 27" iMac on my desk for when I need some real horsepower, but I find myself using the 12" 95% of the time.

This reads like a reddit or HN post.

"Yeah, that pretty much makes sense, but how are you 'just gonna get CNE access' on an admin?"

(S/SI//REL) Good question, thanks for asking. Most of the time I'm going to rely on QUANTUM to get access to their account (yeah, you could try spam, but people have been getting smarter over the last 5-10 years... it's not as reliable anymore). So, inorderto work our QUANTUM-magic on an admin, we'll need some sort of webmail/facebook selector for them.

"You know, you could just look up the 'point of contact' in the registry information associated with their IP space/domain names..."

(S/SI//REL) Yeah, you could do that. Personally, I haven't had a huge amount of luck with it, because most of the time I end up running across their ♦official* e-mail address that's hosted on their own network. That's generally not a recipe for success in the QUANTUM world, what we'd really like is a personal webmail or facebook account to target. There's a couple ways you could try' this: dumpster-dive for alternate selectors in the big SIGINT trash can, or pull out your wicked Google-fu to see if they've posted on any forums and list both their official and non-official e-mails in a signature block...but what if there was another way to do it?

(S/SI//REL) If a target that I care about is on a network that I don't have access to. in this post I described that I will try to get access to that network by targeting the sys admin. In order to target the sys admin, it's easiest if I know what their personal webmail/facebook username is so that I can target it with QUANTUM. The hardest part is identifying that admin's personal account to target in the first place.

Now, fade off with me into dream-land. Pretend that we had some master list. This master list contained tons of networks around the world, and the personal accounts of admins for each of those networks. And any time you wanted to target a new network, you could just find the admin associated with it, queue his accounts up for QUANTUM, get access to his box and proceed to pwn the network. Wouldn't that be swell?

robwormald··on Watching Them Turn Off the Rothkos
years ago, I had a date who suggested we go to the Tate Modern and I stumbled into the Rothko room[0], having no previous experience or interest in 'modern' art.

That room though, had the same soothing and electrifying effect on me as you describe. I've never forgotten it.

robwormald··on YC for Hardware
Can't take credit for the idea, one of the founders is a Rugby player and had his clock cleaned on the field one too many times.

Data is my thing - there's a number of these types of products out there (Shockbox et al), the issue is that they all keep the algorithm quite close to their chest (fairly, I suppose!)

My role (in addition to helping out with the hardware) is the ecosystem around it. It's BLE capable, so while we can't make a diagnosis (all kinds of legal issues there), the hope is to aggregate impact data, improve the detection algorithm and be able to feed it back to the device as it improves - We're currently using a TI MCU that allows us to OTA update from the app.

robwormald··on YC for Hardware
We've experimented with all manner of MEMS sensors, but at its core its (currently) an accelerometer and a gyro + an MCU.

Not sure on IG vs KS, not my department :D

robwormald··on YC for Hardware
This can't come soon enough. I'm helping out on a hardware 'startup' (though I guess we don't really use that term) - coming from software its an incredibly challenging realm to work in.

Simply getting a functional prototype without easy access to a 3d printer, $$$ in compiler licenses for BT stacks, freakin custom batteries, etc etc.

Our thing: https://www.fitguard.me/

robwormald··on Poll: What IoT platform do you prefer prototyping on?
From a technical point of view, the TI stuff was great for starting out. Their Sensortag is a great little bit of hardware for getting your brain wrapped around embedded dev, plenty of code samples (for both the firmware and integrations). OTA updating the firmware from an iOS/Android app is great too.

That said, the requirement of using IAR to compile (which is a minimum of $2.5k after the 30 day trial) sucks pretty hard.
