robotnikman··on PS5 Relapse Exploit
Nowadays the average person can just buy a Steam Machine or something similar and stream to anywhere seamlessly, no subscription required. Most ISP's offer good upload speeds now compared to 10 years ago making it very viable.
robotnikman··on PS5 Relapse Exploit
At least GeForce allows you to play games you already own, unlike Stadia where you have to rebuy everything. IIRC in GeForce Now its just a matter of signing into your Steam account.
robotnikman··on Meta Blocks President Lula's Facebook Page, Campaign Ads 2 Weeks from Election
Feels like the future of the internet is every country having their own internet stuck within their own national firewall
robotnikman··on Video CDs Break Windows Explorer
from my experience so far, AI is not the best when it comes to maintaining very large projects. Windows is a massive behemoth with multiple millions of lines of code, fixes and shims upon fixes and shims, built over decades by thousands of developers all with different ideas.
robotnikman··on Video CDs Break Windows Explorer
iirc most of the things submitted to the feedback hub are things from not so tech savy users, think things such us "my mouse is not clicking right", "how do I delete facebook" or "my google is not working". Its hard to separate the wheat from the chaff here.

The idea for the feedback hub was good in theory, but making it easily accessible to any user has basically turned it into a black hole which nobody bothers to probably check.

robotnikman··on Don't Worry About AI Making You Dumber, Nvidia CEO Says It Doesn't Matter
I very much prefer doing mental math than using an AI, so no I'm not going to forget.
robotnikman··on Microsoft abandons personal AI chatbot race with Copilot reboot
>Crazy how if they had waited about 2-3 years, and kept windows AI-free and released it today using the latest models, it would absolutely be well received (see: muse, new siri)

But that would make John Shareholder sad! He wants it done now, this quarter!

robotnikman··on Microsoft abandons personal AI chatbot race with Copilot reboot
Its so bad you would probably get better answers using a 2b parameter local model
robotnikman··on How did AMD Ryzen get 50% faster in two years?
The x86 architecture still going strong. I've always though Ryzen was a fitting name, AMD had Ryzen from the ashes and struck a blow to the long dominant Intel.
robotnikman··on People hooked on vapes try a new way to quit: cigarettes
I literally saw a meme image saying this last year. Crazy to see it become reality.
robotnikman··on Samsung is expected to more than double output of its HBM4 and HBM4E DRAM
Maybe this leads to device manufacturers using HBM memory instead.
robotnikman··on Steam Frame starts at $1059
Same here. I would gladly pay extra just to not be tied to Facebook.
robotnikman··on IKEA made a mod for Skyrim [video]
Skyrim has to be one of the most modded games out there, with maybe only Minecraft being up there in terms of mods. Its probably also the biggest game out there when it comes to... lets just say nsfw mods.
robotnikman··on iPod Classic 6G in QEMU
Yep, it would be Phase. Anyways thanks again for all your hard work, it brings me some good nostalgia since my iPod is long gone now.
robotnikman··on Killing with a car costs $1.6M, California requires drivers to carry $30K
Taxpayers. Imo if we didn't have such high national debt in the US, those interest payments to the debt could have instead been used for something like national health insurance. The politicians of the past really screwed us all with the debt.
robotnikman··on Suno v6 released for music creation
>I'm also in disbelief that not one music streaming service has implemented a system that weeds out ALL generated content.

I've been using the SkipIfFake app since apparently the streaming services won't do something similar to identify AI music. It will automatically skip any AI generated music for you if it plays.

robotnikman··on iPod Classic 6G in QEMU
Oh nice! There were 2 games I loved playing on my iPod Nano I would love to try again

-Spore, basically the first phase of PC Spore game, was still fun though.

-This one game which was like guitar hero, but used the clickwheel and would automatically generate tracks from your songs.

robotnikman··on Kenyans Did College Students' Homework for Years. Then A.I. Arrived
Tbh I kinda enjoyed writing essays in college if the topic was interesting.
robotnikman··on Show HN: Bodily Oddities
Random chest pains like you describe cause so much anxiety for me. And yet every time it turns out to be nothing.
robotnikman··on I have a theory that software drives people insane
Man I wish I was born 20 years earlier so I could be working in the golden age of developers like this (and also buy a home at a decent price)
robotnikman··on No Man's Sky Cosmos
>This reminds me of a mod for Rimworld that adds in other people's failed colonies and decays the structure making a real ruins from other people's playthroughs of the game. Awesome concept

This sounds like it would be a great mod for Factorio. Adds other players factories but in a dilapidated and decayed state.

robotnikman··on No Man's Sky Cosmos
I actually created a Minecraft server plugin a long time ago which did this. It allowed server owners to create their own dungeons/buildings/etc and they would generate randomly in the world. It even supported custom procedural generated dungeons and structures.
robotnikman··on No Man's Sky Cosmos
I feel like this is where AI would come in handy. An AI can get a lot more 'creative' than a procedural generation algorithm.
robotnikman··on Nitter has more working instances than before the takedowns
Thats the nice thing about alternate frontends like Nitter, if the main instance goes down you can just clone the repo and make your own very easily, or choose from one of the many alternate instances out there.

I highly recommend the extension libredirect, which will redirect you to instances of your choice (or just stick with the defaults). It doesn't just work for Twitter/X, but also Reddit, Tiktok, Youtube, and many others

robotnikman··on A practical guide to running 8x RTX PRO 6000's
My bad, didn't mean to derail things with my little quip, for what its worth I did read the article and it was an interesting read. Overall I do hope for more smaller models in the future which I can run on my 3090 that deliver similar performance, or for hardware costs to drop in the next few years to prosumer levels.
robotnikman··on How the Tobacco Industry Drove the Rise of Ultra-Processed Foods (2025)
Not sure why this comment by KurSix is marked dead:

>What stands out to me is that the real transfer wasn't a specific ingredient or recipe, it was institutional knowledge: how to engineer repeat consumption and then market the hell out of it

But this really is the gist of it. The execs from the Tobacco industry saw the writing on the wall, and moved over to the food industry where the knowledge of making things addictive to consume was applied to food.

robotnikman··on I wanna live an NPC life
>Being nothing special is quite different.

Related, I would also recommend the book "The courage to be disliked"

robotnikman··on A practical guide to running 8x RTX PRO 6000's
Now if only I could afford 8 RTX PRO 6000's
robotnikman··on 'Mad honey' that can stop your heart is being sold online
>Eat a teaspoonful, and you might feel pleasantly warm and slightly lightheaded. Eat more than a few tablespoons, and your heart rate can drop to life-threatening levels.

Reminds me of the Futurama episode with the space bee honey. Wonder if the writers got the inspiration from this.

robotnikman··on Stopping the smart TV from being used against you
IIRC a decade ago Samsung smart TV's were found doing this.
