robotnikman··on A backdoor in a LinkedIn job offer
With how many desperate software engineers there are on the market right now looking for a job, there are going to be scumbags out there trying to take advantage of the desperation. Such people are the worst of the worst of humanity.

Stay vigilant out there everyone.

robotnikman··on How to earn a billion dollars
>People are obsessed with the spending habits of their rich neighbors, but completely ignore the spending of the government -- the party actually responsible for the welfare of the people, which controls and wastes unimaginable sums of money.

While I believe the spending habits of the ultra wealthy should be monitored, it is astounding how people don't seem to pay any attention to the spending of the government. There are unfortunately many people taking advantage of the system, lining their pockets using funds for programs meant to help the people.

>It's genuinely depressing to see so many people disillusioned with the state of the country, because they're being barraged by a non-stop deluge of pessimistic messaging by demagogues telling them that everything is terrible, even when things are relatively great and trending in a better direction overall.

This is one point I really wish was more emphasized, in fact it should be taught to everyone in school. We are constantly being bombarded by negativity on the internet, even here on HN. I've noticed myself stepping away from here more often due to it, since I find myself and my thinking falling into a negative spiral from its influence.

However, when you take time to step back from the constant bombardment of negativity, you actually begin to better appreciate the blessings you have in life, and the opportunities present. Of course, there are problems and issues to be solved when it comes to our current system, but by taking a step back from the constant negativity from the news, social media, etc, you can better glimpse the real issues at hand.

robotnikman··on The RCE that AMD wouldn't fix
Well that explains why I get that random console pop up from time to time, thanks for the insight into what's going on!
robotnikman··on India's surprise baby bust
I hate to say it, but I have been feeling the same way recently. I just don't see humanity being sustainable on this planet if we are relying on constantly producing more and more people. There has to be an equilibrium of some kind.
robotnikman··on Testing the WWI concrete ships and WWII concrete barges
Notably Project Habakkuk, which if built would have been the largest ship ever created.

robotnikman··on Bricks and Minifigs Stole a Man's $200k Lego Collection
For a guy like him, 200k is probably no big deal. Instead of doing the right and easy to do thing, he is instead deciding to drag out this whole ordeal. Really says a lot about the guys character.
robotnikman··on Motorola phones have started hijacking the Amazon app to insert affiliate codes
Sony as far as I know is not shipping additional adware on their phones.
robotnikman··on Spotify will start reserving concert tickets for fans
It feels like the quality of the Youtube Music app took a dive when they fired the whole team and outsourced development around a year or so ago.
robotnikman··on Flipper One – we need your help
>We say "truly open" because the current state of ARM Linux is depressing. Every vendor bolts on their own custom mess: closed boot blobs, vendor-specific patches, "board support packages" that nobody outside the chip maker can really understand. You can no longer just read the specs and understand how computers work — you can only learn the workarounds for one specific chip with one specific BSP. We're sick of this ourselves, and we don't want to be part of the problem by shipping yet another product that just adds to the mess.

Too true, and one of the reason I like to use x86 for Linux when I can. So glad to see them push for this!

robotnikman··on Incident Report: May 19, 2026 – GCP Account Suspension
I've used DigitalOcean for personal projects for over a decade, no major issues so I definitely recommend!
robotnikman··on Incident Report: May 19, 2026 – GCP Account Suspension
And unfortunately nothing has changed since then regarding this.
robotnikman··on Smartmedia Card Spec Opened, available free (2000)
CompactFlash is still used in professional equipment last I've checked
robotnikman··on Smartmedia Card Spec Opened, available free (2000)
I remember having to deal with them when my parents first got a digital camera when I was a kid, and me being the kid who knew tech they left it to me to figure out how to get the photos off the camera and onto the printer. 128mb of storage, seemed so big at the time. And I remember seeing the price tag for a 1GB memory stick, was a whopping $500 lol

> I feel like Java doesn’t build when I look at it wrong.

Hah, too true! I guess it is boring in the fact that it is not as... move fast and break things... as NPM. But Java build systems are still certainly fun and challenging in their own ways.

robotnikman··on Waymo updates 3,800 robotaxis after they 'drive into standing water'
That gives me a horrifying idea for a short story about a Waymo being hacked to carry out an assassination where it purposely drives off a bridge and into a lake.
robotnikman··on Judge Bars Kars4Kids from Broadcasting 'Misleading' Ads in California
I can still hear the old TV commercial in my head... 1 877 kars4kids...
robotnikman··on AWS stops billing Middle East cloud customers as repairs to war damage drag on
I'm surprised they did not build them in a bunker or other hardened location. The region is not exactly known for its political stability.

robotnikman··on Framework Laptop 13 Pro: Major Upgrades and Linux Front and Center
It looks like Intel's new Panther Lake chips are a hit, they have amazing battery life and performance compared to their AMD and ARM equivalents (excluding Apple ofc), and the the integrated graphics is better than AMD, ARM, or Apple.

They do not have integrated memory, but by using LPCAMM2 they get better memory speeds than any laptops using the usual SODIMM memory modules.

It's nice to see Intel on the upswing again, more competition is always a good thing.

robotnikman··on New 10 GbE USB adapters are cooler, smaller, cheaper
In my experience, its just best to stick with Thunderbolt when you want to make sure you are getting the best speed for external devices that require it (external SSD's, Graphics Cards, Network adapters)

Much easier and reliable than navigating the confusing sea of USB standards

>When you get asked a question, fumble over your words and say something stupid. Later on, you can reflexively watch the memory played over and over again

I can relate to this so much, my mind seems to bring up those cringe memories randomly and I hate it. If there was a way to just erase those memories I would be all for it lol.

robotnikman··on I am building a cloud
Just curious, are you still looking for developers? Asking as someone who is a developer that works with POS systems.

I wonder if having the Soviet Union as an ever looming adversary could have something to do with it, and after their fall everyone just got complacent.
robotnikman··on Framework Laptop 13 Pro
That would be the Framework 12, I hope they release one with the new panther lake processors soon. Seems like Intel is finally starting to get up to speed with TSMC again.
robotnikman··on Framework Laptop 13 Pro
The desktops use AMD Strix Halo chips which require soldered on memory for the required bandwidth.
