I'm working on a UI automation bot. In my view this is a pre-requisite for physical robots.

robot··on Show HN: I built a website that simplifies Congress and its activities
I'd prefer to see on the first page exactly what the offer is as a live page, vs some text that explains it and asks for a sign up.
robot··on Faking your death
" “Ninety-nine percent of faked deaths are water accidents. In most drownings, the body is recovered. So why was this body not recovered?” "

I had exactly this question when they mentioned that Osama was killed and his body thrown to the ocean. OK it's not a drowning, but why was it thrown to the ocean?

robot··on Ask HN: What's the best library for making cross-platform UIs?
The best one I know is html 5
robot··on Intel Licenses ARM Technology to Boost Foundry Business
its pretty interesting that ARM was able to gain so much foothold from the UK while historically there were so many competing cpu architectures in the market.
robot··on Ask HN: What book have you given as a gift?
The intelligent investor - benjamin graham. In my home country investing is still a mystery for many and there are no good books. This book gives you some base and perspective about investinng
robot··on Qualcomm KeyMaster keys extracted directly from TrustZone
Trustzone adds an additional protected mode to the cpu. IMO it complicates the CPU and adds no additional security - it's not like other protected modes in the cpu are less secure, or more hackable.
robot··on Qualcomm KeyMaster keys extracted directly from TrustZone
Trustzone runs an RTOS-like kernel, he likely hacked Qualcomm's implementation of this kernel to gain access.

In particular this line in the screenshot hints at what he did: "Overwriting syscall_table_5 pointer"

The issue is likely applicable on particular qualcomm devices, and a software patch should be possible.

robot··on HARC
I didn't understand anything from this post.
robot··on Intro.js – Step-by-step guide and feature introduction for your website
It is great! I love that it is small, and love the hints feature.
robot··on Why use www?
whichever the reasons, I should take the toll by typing www every time? life is too short.
robot··on Show HN: Simple personal blogging service. Looking forward to feedback
Thanks, we thought about this.

One intention is to make the site name feel white label, so it focuses on the user's name instead of the service.

robot··on Show HN: Simple personal blogging service. Looking forward to feedback
Thanks, fixed image sizes.
robot··on Show HN: Glimmer, a Simple Private Ad-free Photo Sharing Service
You need an upload progress bar.
robot··on Show HN: Glimmer, a Simple Private Ad-free Photo Sharing Service
I like it. It is simple. I don't like photo management in dropbox, apple photos.

I never share family photos with entire facebook audience, and I never use above tools to share with family. Probably only use Whatsapp to share 1 photo at a time.

Question is, what else can I do with this other than upload + share albums? What could be another value add?

robot··on Show HN: We are rethinking personal blogging – need feedback and tough questions
It is now fixed.
robot··on Show HN: We are rethinking personal blogging – need feedback and tough questions
Sure, will fix today.
robot··on Show HN: We are rethinking personal blogging – need feedback and tough questions
Thanks for the feedback. It is for personal blogging.

Agree it may look like other sites. But the difference is there are fewer steps to produce content. You edit the site in-place clicking parts of it so you anticipate changes much better.

Same with posting: why should personal blogs have harder to use writing tools than a social network?

Your posts should be discoverable. Your blog has a "couchdb" post but it would take a lot of looking to find it.

Not trying to sell it - just want to understand if the message wasn't clear, and why you don't find it valuable.

robot··on Show HN: We are rethinking personal blogging – need feedback and tough questions
Thanks, I appreciate the feedback.

Site search: A lot of bloggers have last few posts on their front page and rest is hard to find again. A search feature lets you discover all the content regardless of time.

Discover users: Agree. We will focus on the tool first and network later. Will remove that.

The idea here is to simplify personal blog setup, writing, and discovering efficiently.

If you start a blog on wordpress, you need to host it, configure via admin panels, go through options, install plugins. Select templates, then try to edit parts of it and fail.

Here you get one site that works, without any setup. Content is not dispersed. A visitor can efficiently find content.

I will revise the message to make it more clear.

By the way I am very interested in online newspaper design. Let me know if you are interested to work on a side project like this, where we enable anyone to launch online newspapers. (info@followme.co)

REMOTE, HTML, CSS, UI/UX design

Hello,

We are rethinking blogging on the web (http://followme.co). Our service makes it simple to start a personal site, create posts, search and discover content.

In today’s web everyone still rolls their own site and then try to be discovered via SEO. We make this easier with our service and network of sites.

We believe eventually such a bottom-up approach will democratize journalism and enable everyone to publish news without being tied to an organization.

Company is in incubation mode, launched by a founder with previous startup success, years of experience, well defined plan and vision.

Team and Environment:

We work remotely, using online tools. Our main office is in Mountain View. We work flexible times, and encourage you to set up the best working environment for yourself.

We are a small, tightly knit team who truly cares about this product. We are looking for someone who will be just as excited. You have your own space, your time, lots of flexibility. We value your opinions and your contributions will make direct impact on our product.

We are looking for one web designer with:

* Exceptional HTML, CSS skills.

* Understanding of User Interface design.

* Understanding of fonts, columns, design proportions, use of blank space, value simplicity.

She/he should be able to advise us on the looks of the desktop and mobile user interfaces. Be able to take design mockups, reproduce them into working HTML / CSS. Make it responsive across different size web clients.

Hands-on, who can commit changes in git and edit Javascript UI templates to reflect designed HTML, fix UI bugs.

Hand-holding minorities label them even more as a group that needs to be helped. They should be encouraged to be successful in the "same" environment as others and treated the same. The moment you do something "for" them is the moment you label them as that group that needs hand-holding even more. I don't think they need special treatment this way. It is done by good intention, but it does not need saying, you're black, let me help you. I would just do it without naming it.

robot··on Ask HN: Ok you've built a rudimentary prototype – how would you proceed next?
You don't need a business plan, just need to work out how to make money. You need to engage bars/restaurants, and start servicing users (like 5-10 users will do to start with). Know that this is a very crowded space, and ordering alcoholic drinks on an app is usually illegal due to age check not happening.

robot··on Algolia (YC W14) raises a $18.3M Series A
So in this case you favor installing and maintaining elastic search? I don't think so. It seems it would come with more than $50/month cost in terms of maintenance and hosting time, as well as the extra hassle.

There is also the masters of search: https://www.google.com/work/search/products/gss.html#pricing... but looks like the price goes higher when you have a lot of queries. Also you probably can't customize the query result as neatly as algolia

robot··on Tesla Energy
The problem with all of your examples is they still only sell one thing. Tesla now sells 2 things. That means sales, marketing team, strategy, support, for 2 things. Like, having 2 companies.
robot··on Tesla Energy
I think this is a move that will break the focus rule for a startup. Batteries _and_ cars. There is room for only one.
