robinhoodexe··on Ask HN: What was your best passive income in 2015?
Those watches look very nice!

Is it possible to get the white compass with a black leather strap?

robinhoodexe··on Ask HN: What was your best passive income in 2015?
That depends on the country. In Denmark, you have no responsibilities[0] at all if you choose the anonymous option.

robinhoodexe··on Ask HN: What are you currently learning in your spare time?
Meditation.

Oh, and how to consume large amounts of ethanol without it tasting like anything. That's mostly a weekend project with a couple of mates.

robinhoodexe··on Aurous: BitTorrent-Powered Music Player
Agreed. It looks pretty good, but is it like popcorn time, but for music? The title raises more questions than it answers.
robinhoodexe··on MathBox 2: PowerPoint Must Die
I'll be honest and admit, that I didn't understand most of the stuff, but damn that website is gorgeous.
robinhoodexe··on New Severity Level, "Critical"
Firefox throws an error related to security when connecting. How ironic.

robinhoodexe··on Show HN: Intuitive nutrition information
But... The correct one IS kcal. Or kilojoule, if you want to be even more universal.
robinhoodexe··on Markdown and LaTeX Editor
I'm quite amazed at how responsive it feels compared to sharelatex or the likes. It's extremely simple. I like it. I may not use it myself, but I'll mention it to friends who are learning LaTeX.
robinhoodexe··on Old graph paper
I recall using a lin-log and log-log graph paper when I was 16 or so.

I suspect we HAD to use them because the school had some leftovers. We drew graphs on them for like 20 mins and then did it on the computer (GeoGebra I think).

robinhoodexe··on I can build an forever-free and anonymous personal finance web app
Often you can export your transactiondata to csv or a similar format. GNU cash can do this.
robinhoodexe··on Overleaf: collaborative LaTeX-based writing and publishing
I'm sure this is a great product for people new to LaTeX, but I personally prefer to use Vim & Git for collaboration. Works wonders.
robinhoodexe··on Ask HN: Do you still purchase physical books?
Yes.

I recently bought "A Game Of Thrones" (book one in the series) by George R. R Martin.

It's just something different.

robinhoodexe··on Show HN: PolyBrowser goes open source on GitHub. Let’s re-imagine web browsing
Seems pretty nice, but I'll stick with Firefox + the TreeStyleTabs addon.
robinhoodexe··on Ask HN: What OS do you run?
OS X on my laptop. Debian on my Raspberry Pi. iOS on my smartphone.
robinhoodexe··on LG: “Apple has also announced that they will release the iMac 8K”
You can say what you want about Apple, but they're the ones pushing screen resolution on desktops/laptops up. We were stuck with 1368x768 for far too long.
robinhoodexe··on The Apple Watch’s Insanely Great Economics
But the US accounts for a lot more than 5% of the people willing to buy their products. My guess would be closer to 30%.
robinhoodexe··on Yeah, it's a stopwatch
Nice, I might actually use this from time to time. However, an option to show 100th of a second would be useful sometimes.
robinhoodexe··on Ask HN: Why would you prefer Emacs over IntelliJ IDEA?
100% control and it works in the terminal.
robinhoodexe··on Harry Potter and the Methods of Rationality finished today
I'm wondering if this will be published as a physical book. I prefer reading more than a few pages on normal paper.
robinhoodexe··on GitLab acquires Gitorious
Not really related to the acquisition, but what's the status on running GitLab on the arm architecture such as the Raspberry Pi? I'd love to run that.
robinhoodexe··on What happens when Betelgeuse explodes?
I'm pretty sure Ford Prefect would be rather disappointed that his home planet got blown up...
robinhoodexe··on Ask HN: Do you hate iTunes?
I really like it. Easy sync with iOS. Not only music, but also contacts, calendar, all that jazz. Even though I use Firefox for browsing on OS X, I still find it handy to use safari for browsing where I left from iOS. Transcoding from FLAC to ALAC is easy and fast with XLD[1]. There's the nice visualizer from SoundSpectrum called WhiteCap[2] (free version is included). Organization is simple.

robinhoodexe··on Show HN: PolyGen App, turn gradients and photos into pretty low poly patterns
I like it
robinhoodexe··on Learn Vimscript the Hard Way
So, not to sound negative or anything, but I'm pretty sure vimscript will become deprecated once Neovim is used widely.
robinhoodexe··on An Efficiency Comparison of Document Preparation Systems in Academic Research
This study has been debunked previous here on HN:

https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=8807497

https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=8797002

Most of the study is, to be honest, bullshit.

robinhoodexe··on The Beautiful Geometry of 18th-Century Forts
I'm glad I wasn't the only one... Although this is kinda interesting as well.
robinhoodexe··on Teaching Quantum Chemistry with iPython Notebooks
Very interesting... I'm studying chemistry as well, and while there's still ~1 year before I get courses like this, I'd be very interested in peeking at one of the notebooks.
robinhoodexe··on Shoelace Formula
Sort of unrelated: reading Wikipedias mobile pages on a "standard" (15" in my case) screen is actually rather nice. Very clean look.
robinhoodexe··on Images of Math
Suggestion: allow us to use left/right button to navigate.
robinhoodexe··on Linux kernel coding style
"First off, I'd suggest printing out a copy of the GNU coding standards, and NOT read it. Burn them, it's a great symbolic gesture."

Shots fired.
