robhack··on Markov Composer – Using machine learning and a Markov chain to compose music
Cool, it reminds me of one of my very old project : http://robhub.github.io/melogen/@auto.swf (sorry, Flash, I know..) However, it would require tons more work to make something interesting.
robhack··on Paul's Extreme Sound Stretch
Also, Loreena McKennitt's Book of Secrets
robhack··on Why We Should Demand a Shorter Workweek
European here, 35 hours and I'm drained.

I'm thinking about negotiating fewer hours when I have more seniority.

robhack··on Edible insects are a novelty today, but they'll be mainstream tomorrow
Am I the only one bothered by the sheer amount of killing this means? You might have to feed poultry 2lb to get 1lb of food, but you kill only one living creature. With insects, how many living creatures are you going to kill to get 1lb ? (even though that would only require 1lb of feeding). Yes I know, they are not conscious at the same level, and are killed in a way so that they don't suffer, but still.
robhack··on Realtempo – online rehearsal rooms to make music together in real time
Or the realtime could just be an illusion, like in plink http://labs.dinahmoe.com/plink/ (pretty fun little tool, even though you are quite limited because of the forced pentatonic scale and tempo)
robhack··on Realtempo – online rehearsal rooms to make music together in real time
Yeah, I don't see how it could be done.. unless all the players got optic fiber or something, and even so I'm not sure. I would be very interested in a collaborative sequencer though. Let's say drummer record a first loop, then everyone can hear it, guitarist plays a chord progression over it and record it, then the singer can add his part. The drummer then decides to add a special part at some place to go together with the singer and he edits his sequence so it's not 100% loop anymore, etc etc...
robhack··on Realtempo – online rehearsal rooms to make music together in real time
That's the kind of stuff I might be interested in, but the lack of any video (or even screenshot) showing me what the thing is like before I have to sign up is a bit off-putting imo.
robhack··on We Tried Building a Remote Team and It Sucked
I guess that depends on everyone's personal case. But I for one like my commute: 10min by bicycle or 15min by foot, with a nice parc with lots of birds on the way. So in my case, the pros of working from home are almost void compared to the pros of a workplace.
robhack··on BodyKit – An API to the Human Body
Awesome! So, I'm trying to take my own measurements to see if the 3D model would be accurate. I downloaded the PDF about measurements, but I find it not specific enough. For example, chest girth: depending on how much air I got in my lungs it changes a lot! I guess I should measure when it seems the most « normal », but a little more information would be greatly appreciated (:
robhack··on What Do Blind People Actually See?
Mind Blown. Not by the fact we have a blind spot, but how, like in the article it's not a black zone, but really the absence of any input that the brain tries to fill in. Now I'm curious to test how the brain interpolate on this area, like trying to put different background color or texture on each side of the blindspot.
robhack··on X to close
Minimize puts your window in the taskbar whereas X closes the window (not in the taskbar anymore), but whether it also closes the program or not at the same time is up to the program (and ideally should be configurable). That's how I understand it at least.
robhack··on Voice Viewer
I don't think it's really an equivalent tool. As I understood, the main point is the real-time analysis of the microphone input. Spek seems to only analyze a « static » sound file (same for SoX and Audacity if I'm correct).
robhack··on Gamma Wave Brain Zaps Induce Lucid Dreaming
I never had any lucid dream unfortunately, but this link has already been looked at, notably here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZgJOMqIhvHM&list=PLC2DC804CF...
robhack··on Screenshot Saturday
Thanks, I might open source the prototype/early version here, but not the whole project (I intend to add a lot more stuff and make it gaming-oriented)
robhack··on Screenshot Saturday
Thanks, no I have not, but always interesting to look at similar tools. I'm more interested in going in the gaming direction though (like trying to follow a song singing/whistling, or by making it multiplayer somehow) I was inspired by plink (by dinahmoe)
