roamerz··on In the Rockets' Red Glare: The past and future of hot-rodding in America
>>And in street racing, and driving fast responsive cars in general, electric is the future.

Street racing is entirely too dangerous and of course illegal. You don't have to race to take part in the street scene, which in that scenario the actual power to weight ratio is somewhat irrelevant in itself. What is relevant to me, personally, is the ambience that surrounds a supercharged radically cammed V8 rumbling down the street. That will give me goosebumps every time. The power is in it's growl, not necessarily it's bite. I don't know how you replicate that in an electric vehicle and I think that feeling transfers to the racetrack as well. I would rather watch a 3-4 second top fuel race rather than a 2-3 second electric car race.

Oh yeah if you ever do happen to catch one of those top fuel events don't miss watching them rebuild the engines and the 'let's make sure it runs' startups. The fumes will cause tears in your eyes and your lungs will hurt but it's as good or better than the actual race.

After reading this comment I wonder how much making Ozempic free for all would affect global CO2 emissions.

I wonder why a truthful statement like that is being downvoted?

I could eat steak at a lavish restaurant every night but I realize that if I did so my credit card balance would eventually come to the point I would be using the total of my income to pay the interest. Instead I do the sustainable option and buy groceries and cook at home.

Continuing deficit spending at the federal level will eventually bankrupt our government and make this a worse world to live in.

>> It's incredibly frustrating seeing takes on science by engineers on HN.

That’s crazy talk. I personally find the various takes on topics here on HN valuable and insightful and sometimes it’s the out of the box thinking that you get when an engineer talks about science - especially when it’s broken down to levels I can start to understand.

roamerz··on I Revived 3-Axis CNC Mill G-Code Simulator
Very nice thank you!!
roamerz··on Panasonic Toughbook 40
For Public Safety usage most all ID’s now have at least a 1d barcode and most have a 2d barcode. When the usage environment permits their use, barcode readers permit quick and accurate data entry versus manual keyboard entry.

>>We have enough space to give every human (not just every family - every individual human person) a large house on a big yard. This wouldn't even cover the earth - we could fit all that in just Ontario.

Not to be nit picky but it would be a subjectivity pretty small house if you wanted a yard of any useful size. My quick math said you’d have about 1446 sq ft per person (not including the niceties like roads, stores and fast food joints)

In all honesty though I was surprised it was that close.

>>Do you actually think 8 billion people are about to drop dead?

In no more than 100 years or so, yes.

roamerz··on Judge orders CDC to stop deleting emails of departing staff: 'likely unlawful'
My point exactly. They may have been using a logging solution but whoever made the decision to keep communications for only 90 days was derelict in their duty, incompetent, or, deliberately trying to protect the agency from scrutiny.

Do you have any evidence that something nefarious wasn’t happening? That’s the point of communication through approved channels keeping records of said comms.

roamerz··on Judge orders CDC to stop deleting emails of departing staff: 'likely unlawful'
I would have assumed that everyone in this gov/enterprise space used an auditable email logging solution that keeps communications for whatever their applicable policy dictates.

>> If we are applying that emotionally charged nonsense..

I don’t see how that is emotionally charged. The simple fact is Jocelyn Nungaray would likely be alive today if that person had been prevented from illegally crossing the border.

Your other argument is irrelevant to my point that if border laws were enforced the crime could not have occurred in the first place.

roamerz··on Additive manufacturing of an ultrastrong, deformable aluminum alloy
I can’t see why it couldn’t be recycled? Though I think the most important issue would be its suitability to its intended use case. Recyclability would be somewhere down the list.
roamerz··on Carmakers File Challenge to Parts of New Automatic-Braking Rule
Ram 1500’s as well. There is one spot where I park when at a clients that does it every time. It’s startling when it happens. I turn it off when I think of it but often forget to re-enable it.

>>far beyond her constitutional powers as the governor

That’s because there are no penalties for violating the Oath of Office they take - the courts will simply override her decision at some point.

If by chance they don’t she will simply reverse her decision - after the election.

This is pure politics by a politician who cares only about herself and her party.

roamerz··on Is Microsoft trying to commit suicide?
I wouldn’t mind the total recall feature if it was OPTIONAL. I would probably use it on a dedicated pc that I would use for diagnostics and issue remediation on. Would serve as a (probably) great tool for creating documentation after the fact where you don’t have the bandwidth to do it in real time.

But to use it on a pc that is used for day to day activities? It would effectively circumvent every policy which I’m required to adhere to. This would be a shit show especially in government where anyone can legally and with force request “all correspondence and electronic records pertaining to xxx”.

roamerz··on Show HN: Simple and fast resume document generation with AI
Couldn’t agree more.

I’m in the job market and I have resisted turning to AI for help with my resume. I feel that while AI could absolutely improve upon it the result would not represent who I really am. As a result I am enjoying an extended vacation.

roamerz··on Biden signs TikTok bill into law, starting clock for ByteDance to divest
It’s banning it because of national security concerns and has nothing to do with capitalism. Honestly though this administration doesn’t seem to take national security very seriously so this will probably fall to the wayside and be enforced with the same vigor as our border security laws - so yeah nothing for them to worry about.
roamerz··on Scale of the Universe
The gray stuff. Is that where the Level Designers haven't yet created the environment for us to play in?

Seriously though as hard as the size of the universe is to comprehend, the gray stuff is exponentially more mysterious to me.

roamerz··on US court blocks EPA order to eliminate PFAS in plastic containers
Yes Congress did give the EPA authority to evaluate the evidence and promulgate rules but they did not give them the authority to violate the law. This is but the latest example of of the EPA being correctly guardrailed by the courts. I only wished that the courts could directly penalize the person at the EPA who knowingly exceeded their authority. Admittedly it was for a worthy cause but they or the Congress needs to remedy this through lawful channels.

roamerz··on TCP connection timeout mystery
Maybe it’s not a network issue at all - might be related to a purposeful action taken by a network device (ips or web filter etc) that is killing the connection based on some rule set.
roamerz··on Filling Nuclear Power's $5T Hole Is Beyond the Banks
>The federal government funds the system

You mean the Citizens. The Federal Government does nothing but redirect the hard work of its people or print the money, which is essentially the same as it causes inflation. If this were a solution the people actually wanted it would succeed on its own with direct ridership fees.

roamerz··on U.S. sues Apple, accusing it of maintaining an iPhone monopoly
>>universal messaging is not possible without paying the Apple gatekeeper

There is in fact universal messaging - it's called SMS. You don't need to pay Apple to use it. If you would have added secure to your example then yes that would be correct.

roamerz··on United Airlines tells Boeing to stop building Max 10s and to switch to max 9s
And it’s not necessarily the fault of the specific person in that position but rather those who set the priorities of what that position needs to accomplish - the Board of Directors. The MBA in itself didn’t cause the failures. I don’t fault an engineer going through the hoops to check the MBA box in order to be a viable candidate for that position. I almost did the same a few years ago to do the same. My motivation wasn’t money or ego though it was because I imagined I could make a difference in our organization if I had a better hold of the reigns. I ended up not doing it and decided it was just time to move on instead. In the end it was me being a bit selfish and my motivation was simply quality of life for myself and family.

roamerz··on Epic says Apple will reinstate developer account
My suggestion would give consumers an additional choice. Sounds like that is something you are against? I thought that this was what this was all about.
