is this a job interview
ro_bit··on The dark side of the Mac App Store
> Apple does not let you change your screenshots and app previews, after your app has been published.

What can you do after a dramatic UI change in your app then? Is there some option to ask or pay for a more comprehensive review at some point?

ro_bit··on Microsoft deleted the public support forums for SwiftKey
Damn, the auto update got to me before I read this. Is there a way to rollback the update that bingifies swiftkey on Android?

ro_bit··on Apple delays bonuses for some divisions as it scrutinizes costs
> 1) Will FAANG+ companies hire college interns this summer?

I sure hope so. I've signed an internship offer for this summer but I am very anxious about it being reneged on

ro_bit··on If you work at Dreamhost, can you help us?
> If you work at Dreamhost and want to keep us as custommers instead of kicking us like that, please ask the support service in charge of ticket 225948648 to send the recovery URL to the secondary email adddress

What's the point of having a secondary email address if not for account recovery? Am curious as to what Dreamhost's thought process is here

I guess client-side-only data storage or end to end encryption with the user holding the key is going to become a feature for cycle tracking apps going forward.

ro_bit··on Temple Student Strike Turns Ugly as School Ends Some Tuition Aid
Striking is not the same as quitting. If negotiations were ratified next week, workers would return and could not face retaliation in benefits or pay for striking. The university could withhold pay for missed shifts during the strike and potentially clawback a prorated portion of the remission at best, but clawing back remissions in their entirety and charging late fees for not paying by a deadline is bad faith and won't be looked upon fondly by the NRLB. While the decision will likely end up being made by a court, to me this definitely seems like illegal retaliation and not a case of students biting off more than they could chew.
ro_bit··on Temple Student Strike Turns Ugly as School Ends Some Tuition Aid
This isn't a halting of paychecks during the strike. Tuition remission is awarded at the beginning of each semester a student is working. This would be like clawing back a signing bonus made to workers before a strike action, which from a cursory google search seems to be legally ambiguous at best.
ro_bit··on Temple Student Strike Turns Ugly as School Ends Some Tuition Aid
For reference, during the recent UC-wide strike, student strikers were allowed to keep their tuition remission (however, the university is clawing back paychecks for striking workers, as they are legally allowed to do. We had strike pay anyway, so it's fine)

ro_bit··on Why YouTube Won't Pay Me
tl;dw

Content creator with half a million subscribers does not receive $20k+ worth of ad revenue due to a technical issue Youtube admits was their fault and out of the creator's hands. After months of back and forth between Youtube support and the creator, support declares they will not reimburse creators due to monetization bugs and refuses to reimburse the creator for the lost revenue.

What can I do to mitigate those risks?

Maybe antivirus should be a protected term. The amount of fake, ad-riddled,and downright malicious antiviruses are absurd.
ro_bit··on Eli Lilly pulls millions in Twitter advertising after fake account debacle
> It’s not worth the risk when patient trust and health are on the line.

Ah yes, the patient's trust in the company to rip them off on lifesaving drugs

ro_bit··on American society is so focused on race that it is blind to class
> Berkeley

If it makes you feel better, public California colleges cannot employ affirmative action as documented by https://ballotpedia.org/Affirmative_action_in_California, so your son's chances in the UC system should be unaffected by race based quotas. Best of luck to your son on college admissions. Having recently gone through that myself, it's a hell of an undertaking.

ro_bit··on Treasury Sold $3.4B in I Bonds This Week as Investors Rushed to Get 9.62% Rate
For people talking about the virtual password keyboard on TreasuryDirect, you can make a bookmark with the contents

javascript:(function(){document.querySelector(".pwordinput").removeAttribute("readonly")})();

and click that when you're on the password prompt to make the password field keyboard-fillable. It's a hack and we shouldn't have to do it but it's still helpful

ro_bit··on BuyVM: Example of refreshingly honest and transparent provider
I also have a box with them. At one point, they made a massive mistake with rebuilding a broken raid array and lost all the data on a 256gb slab I had, as well as for other customers. While the human error is incredibly concerning to me (luckily I had backups of critical data), I appreciated the immediate notification and offers of compensation for the data lost, as well as plans within the next few weeks to make their RAID array more robust going forward. At most providers I've had to actively seek out compensation for situations like these rather than have it offered to me within a day of the data loss.
ro_bit··on O&O App Buster removes Windows Apps you don’t want
Incase one of the developers is in here - I just tried the app and it prompted me to create a restore point before starting. It encountered an error while making the restore point and then proceeded to uninstall the apps anyway. This is probably not intended behavior and should be fixed
ro_bit··on Amazon Drive is closing on January 31, 2023
The new Google Drive desktop has caused me a lot more problems than Backup and Sync. Moved to Duplicati yesterday. I'll miss the live backup but having uploads fail every few hours and no way to exclude certain sizes and extensions like you could in Backup and Sync was a drag

ro_bit··on FTC to crack down on companies that illegally surveil children learning online
Is it just me or has the US Government been doing a lot of actions recently. Just today I saw two other articles about how the gov is cracking down on Juul, some anti right to repair company, etc. Is it just all getting published now?
ro_bit··on Git.io deprecation
> Out of an abundance of caution due to the security of the links redirected with the current git.io infrastructure, we have decided to accelerate the timeline. We will be removing all existing link redirection from git.io on April 29, 2022.

What were the security concerns?

Does this mean that Howard will be able to start seizing assets, or is the city protected against such measures of enforcement?
ro_bit··on MIT Graduate student vote to unionize succeeds
Good. My university tries to pull all sorts of crap with academic student employees. In the short time I've been employed here, the union has fought for incredibly tangible improvements to my employment.
