rkneufeld··on Clojure Cookbook is now accepting contributions
That's a tough question to answer right now since we don't know how much help we're going to get. I'm expecting Luke and I write at least half of the book–I'd be ecstatic if we got that much help.

On the other hand, should contributions be extremely low, we are still on the hook with O'Reilly to deliver all of the book.

rkneufeld··on Clojure Cookbook is now accepting contributions
One of the big things we'd like to accomplish is building a book out of things the community needs. I've felt this pain myself. I'd strongly suggest you submit "idea" issues for the topics you feel most uneasy about.

rkneufeld··on Pedestal – An open source tool set for building web applications in Clojure
Pedestal ships with absolutely zero dependence on Datomic, and we intend to keep it that way. Datomic is a fantastic tool, but even we understand that it might not always be the right tool for the job. As such, we've built Pedestal with little to no opinion on backing store.

rkneufeld··on Pedestal: An open source tool set for building web applications in Clojure
Ryan from Relevance here. It is true some of the ideas behind pedestal have been around for a couple years, but always as tweaks and hacks over top of existing frameworks. Every project has had its own unique and most importantly, local, implementation.

Pedestal is a culmination of those efforts into a new set of libraries. Some of the code from other projects inspired what there is today, but an even greater portion was created from scratch to make it more generally applicable. We haven't had the chance to use this incantation of the ideas in production yet, but we wholly intend to. We hope this experience, and that of the community, can help us bring this to beta or fully production ready.

Duly noted. It's been a real whirlwind getting this stuff out the door in time for Clojure/west and better documentation is one of our major goals following the release.

rkneufeld··on Fun with phenolphthalein
I can't believe nobody has mentioned its laxative effect. My chemistry teacher used to tell every class about the tough guy who thought he could ingest some phenolphthalein and didn't even make it to the door before relieving himself.
rkneufeld··on Zed Shaw: Github's Favorite Joke
But... what if Zed and Nick are also actually Github!?
rkneufeld··on Ask HN: How do you successfully work at home with a family?
I've been working at home for about six months now, three of which I've taken care of our daughter from 9am-1pm. I start working at 7am until my wife leaves for her part-time job (while she is on maternity from her teaching position). During daddy-daughter time our daughter takes at least one 1-2 hour nap and depending on her mood she sometimes watches a cartoon and eats on her own while I work on less "hard" development tasks.

When my wife is home I find the "door closed == serious work time" method and noise cancelling headphones do the trick. The most important thing is that your partner/children know and understand that your work space is a place where you work. My wife knows that I wouldn't be able to do X if I was in an office elsewhere, so I probably can't do X either while I am working at home.

On a side note: A very nice benefit of working home w/ family is the ability to take breathers whenever you so chose -- completely remove yourself from your work environment for a few minutes and (hopefully) change your perspective/attitude to a more beneficial one.

rkneufeld··on I Don't Do Coffee
I don't see why this is even an issue. I imagined the link would contain a perspective on why coffee is bad in some way to productivity or personal health but instead I see a length conversation on how to reply to "let's do coffee sometimes."

IMHO say "sure", and then just don't have coffee. Does anyone really care _what_ you drink – I always though "getting coffee" was more of a social norm to have conversation over warm beverages?

rkneufeld··on Cardpool (YC W10) Launches One Gift Card To Rule Them All
I started writing on (defacing) cash I gave to friends for birthday's with the words "Gift Card". That works too.
rkneufeld··on Fast prime numbers
Behold, MR.Prime!

https://github.com/rkneufeld/mr_prime

It's a little ruby Miller-Rabin primality tester I wrote with my friend in Crypto class that can handle ~500 digit primes in less than a few seconds. I think my friend also wrote a C extension for it - super fast.

Edit: spelling.
