http://shop.oreilly.com/product/0636920026938.do

You can read it for free at Oreilly's Chimera labs

rkda··on How in-app purchases have destroyed the game industry
Hmmm... isn't that what id used to do with Doom? I think they're called shareware if I'm not mistaken.
rkda··on Facebook Publications
For a second there, I thought Facebook was going to take on the academic publishers.
rkda··on Mozilla bug 923590: Pledge never to implement HTML5 DRM
Wouldn't watermarking solve this problem? Then people would know the original owners. Other people can't get away with claiming them as their own.
rkda··on Ask HN: Is anyone still using TiddlyWiki?
Still using mine mostly as a link dump. Using tiddlyspace right now :)
rkda··on HN is Becoming 2005 Slashdot
You mean like hubski?

http://hubski.com/

rkda··on The entire US Code is now online in XML
So law is a machine learning problem?
rkda··on Small Victories: Host a website on Dropbox
I don't know about the other companies but site44 only uses Dropbox to sync your files. The site itself is hosted in their own servers. It's just to make it easy to edit and upload your site.
rkda··on Codename Prometheus: User experience driven open source initiative
"Codename Prometheus is a new initiative to create an open platform that competes on user experience in the consumer space. It is inspired in part by the Snowden leaks about the NSA and GCHQ spying programmes on ordinary citizens. Our aim is to create products that are great experiences out of the box. Oh, and by the way, they just happen to be open. They just happen to protect your privacy and respect your human rights. We will need all the support we can get. Follow us on Twitter, subscribe to our mailing list, and join us as we embark on the long road to realising this mammoth task."

Lofty goals, I do hope they can pull it off though.

rkda··on Can anyone explain why Ruby is so popular?
It depends on your field, I guess. Scientific computing for example uses a lot of Python. Ditto for the geospatial field where both the proprietary packages and the open source ones use Python. Sometimes, it's not the language's power that matters but the field of application and the existing libraries and community.
rkda··on Yahoo Acquires Astrid
It'd be awesome if someone would develop a server for it :)
rkda··on Yahoo Acquires Astrid
Just checked and saw that Astrid is open source. Not sure if it's the latest version though.

https://github.com/todoroo/astrid

Now if only someone would adopt it :(

rkda··on SciCombinator - scientific news aggregator and discussion
I was excited until I tried to submit an article and it asked me for the Pubmed ID. Science is bigger than Pubmed damnit. Titles mistleading :( Nice site though. Can't argue with that.
rkda··on Coursera's Functional Programming - Cheating Discovered
I second this. Should make most people uncomfortable with cheating. Those who go through are ones who don't give a shit.
rkda··on Show HN: Summaries of interesting content, written by people
Isn't this what gis.to does?
rkda··on 3 years later, Facebook still can't delete photos correctly
Can't or won't?
rkda··on UN-Sopa wikipedia
cache:en.wikipedia.org

Works for Chrome anyway.

rkda··on 7-inch Amazon Tablet launches in October, 10-inch Version in Q1 2012
I do hope they'll still continue their Kindle line though.
