Yes, I believe it is more complex than that. This statement is used to exemplify the learning capability of the system, which is understandable for non-technical users.
> And although I can't confirm this myself, the article does say that societies with greater gender equity also have greater gender gaps due to the differences in what each gender values.
I can only provide my own anecdote. I come from third-world country, where women's right is a laughable word. Women are mostly controlled by the males in the family.
Even with almost no women's rights, women presence in my undergrad STEM school was around 20%. OTOH, when I came to Canada for my grad school, I've never seen any class where presence of women in STEM classes was more than 10%. Even then, most of them women are immigrants from China or South Asia.
I agree. To add more to your point, it would be more worthwhile if the authority and the Muslim community make sure there's no hate preacher in the mosques. As an ex-Muslim living in North America, I find it absolutely ridiculous that some hate preachers, who have been banned in their own countries, are traveling in the Western countries and spreading hatred.
This is the question we all should ask. Saudi Arabia is known as terrorism exporter. Why is US administration (both Republicans and Democrats) so reluctant to go after SA?
I work for chatbot building platform: http://deeppixel.ai/. We use state-of-the-art ensemble of deep learning algorithms that try to understand the meaning of sentences by taking the whole sentence as well as bag of words/bag of ngrams. In addition to that, we use classic NLP techniques like POS tagging, constituency parsing, dependency parsing, Named Entity Recognition (NER), clustering.
"inclusion" is one of the feel-good words which does not mean anything in real-life. Since this word is mostly used by liberals, I would start with the protected classes, e.g., homosexuals, religious minorities. How do you include religious Muslims and homosexuals in the same group? Homosexuals are regularly being prosecuted in Muslim-majority countries. Many Muslims (devout or not) are outright hostile to homosexuals. Do you include religious Muslims or homosexuals? Please let me know if you know a concrete solution of this problem, I'm eager to hear that.
Just out of curiosity, why can't you uninstall the apps that you deem unproductive or distracting? I have uninstalled all the social, distracting, unproductive apps from my smartphone. Granted, most smartphones don't have keyboards. Other than that you should be ok with a smartphone.
I never understand the point of these posted quotes. Every time someone posts a reasonable doubt about Apple's new ventures, there's always the classic "iPhone rebuttal." Yes, Apple did iPhone, and during that time, some of their competitors laughed at them. What does it prove now? Apple is going to solve every single problem on earth just because they have iPhone? Companies create amazing products, same companies also create horrible products. Just because they had created an amazing product does not mean every single product they will create subsequently will be amazing and vice-versa. Why is it so hard for some people to understand?
It's the same story as college dropout entrepreneurs, who became very successful and made million dollars. But, how many college dropouts are out there who are barely earning their livelihoods?
Does the hacker have any religious motivation? As an ex-Muslim, I cannot comprehend how someone in his/her right mind can do something like this. The people whose identities are revealed will be socially rejected in the best case; in the worst case, physical abuse, honor killings, and whatnot. These hackers should be prosecuted for intentionally risking other peoples lives.
I concur with you. I do not have any allergy towards whiteboard questions. Couple of whiteboards is reasonable, but five of them seems totally unnecessary.
I thought MS cloud is doing fine in comparison to Google -- MS is second while Google is third. However, I totally agree with you on others. Particularly, Apple with its closed culture. How many researchers Apple can hire AI researchers while the researchers are so high in demand. The researchers can go to other companies, whom are more open and let the researchers publish their work.
There are a lot of innovations recently, not just the computing power -- layer by layer unsupervised training, batch normalization, ReLU, dropouts, momentum, gated memory unit, neural language modeling, encoder-decoder just to name a few.
There is a new research going on in Neural Turing Machine which, in theory, can exactly do that. Maybe we have to wait some time to see NNs can sort numbers.
As I have said 80 seconds or 20 seconds are not hard numbers, just used as an example. It can simply be rephrased as 4x speedup. I am not sure how the uptime argument is relevant here.
> if using Linux as a desktop OS, aren't pestered by the extra handful of seconds.
Your last point seems argument for the sake of argument. We are in a technical discussion, not a religious discussion. I did not buy a 8-core CPU to wait extra seconds paying electricity bill for the unused CPUs to validate someones hatred for some specific init system. If systemd can better utilize my system resource and cut my waiting time, I am going to use that. My lost time is the real issue, someones irrational hatred for something bears no value to me.
I have a eight-core CPU. Do I want to wait 80 seconds waiting for my laptop to boot because it is using only one core of CPU? Or do I want to wait 20 seconds waiting for my laptop to boot using all the cores available? I do not know what your use-case is, but to me, the choice seems pretty obvious. Can you provide any reason why it is a "perceived" issue, not a real issue?
EDIT: 80 seconds or 20 seconds are not the hard numbers, these are just used to show 4x speed-up on 8-core CPU. Also, why the downvote? Is HN becoming another echo chamber where people can not accept different opinion without downvoting?
I am not sure what is your definition of "won". There is only one option can be supported, and debian picked systemd over other options. It seems exactly fits the definition of "won".
I think, as experiments published in last year based on Spark, the inefficiency stems from the assumption that CPU cycles are abundant w.r.t. RAM and bandwidth. So, nobody focuses on optimizing program itself as much as to reduce memory or bandwidth usage.
It depends on your definition of "plain old". If you are referring to that some people choose not to follow the violent part of sunni Islam, then you are correct. However, under the normal definition of "plain old", Wahhabism is the plain old sunni Islam as Islam was 1400 years ago.
IMHO, these operators are the worst features of C. Particularly I never understand the necessity of both i++ and ++i operators in language at the same time.
