ritabratamaiti··on Someone keeps stealing, flying, fixing and returning this man's 1958 Cessna
Why would we need to tie up a plane? Would they fly away otherwise?
ritabratamaiti··on AI can't stop making up software dependencies and sabotaging everything
Slop in slop out
ritabratamaiti··on All-in-one embedding model for interleaved text, images, and screenshots
Looks quite interesting! I’ve been working on AnyModal, a framework for integrating different data types (like images and audio) with LLMs: https://github.com/ritabratamaiti/AnyModal. It seems that voyage-multimodal-3 would be quite promising in developing multimodal LLMs, but I am not sure if that is the intended use case.
ritabratamaiti··on How to survive the broligarchy: 20 lessons for the post-truth world
I think the 'broligarchy' is simply a reactionary response to a system that is overly derisive of tech...
ritabratamaiti··on Made a Top Down Shooter Template for Godot 4
Maker here! Feel free to let me know your comments.
ritabratamaiti··on Artificially sweetened drinks linked to irregular heartbeat
2 litres of (diet) soda is definitely an absurd amount
ritabratamaiti··on Amazon just bought a 100% nuclear-powered data center
Would not do them any good, without the skilled manpower to operate and maintain it
ritabratamaiti··on Google to invest up to $2B in Anthropic
Speculating... but maybe Anthropic is about to come up with something big
ritabratamaiti··on Using GPT as an HVAC control system
Next up, using GPT as a decision engine of a thermal power plant.
ritabratamaiti··on Ask HN: Would you mind sharing any hobbies or activities you enjoy?
I like working on side projects (based on whatever is trending in tech at the moment, think LLMs, generative AI etc.) I also like climbing, hiking, bubble tea, and collecting old movies in my native language and upscaling them.
ritabratamaiti··on The world's largest "radio" station (2005) [pdf]
That's interesting, did they give the mechanism for how the antenna grid accelerated vegetation growth or was the conclusion obtained through statistical analysis?
ritabratamaiti··on Load a large language model in 4bit and train it using Google Colab and PEFT
From the Huggingface blog post: Making LLMs even more accessible with bitsandbytes, 4-bit quantization and QLoRA (https://huggingface.co/blog/4bit-transformers-bitsandbytes)
ritabratamaiti··on We Found 650k Ways Advertisers Label You
Some of these feel quite black mirror-y

Bumpy Skies Ahead: Climate Change Causes Rise in Turbulence, Costing Airlines Millions From the article: According to new research, clear-air turbulence (CAT) has become more common due to climate change, and it's projected to become an even bigger problem in the future. CAT is particularly tricky to navigate as it forms in cloudless skies and is typically invisible to a plane's radar.
ritabratamaiti··on Reddit's API Pricing Sparks Blackout of 8k Subreddits
Over 8,000 subreddits have gone dark or read-only in protest of Reddit's new API pricing, which will shut down many third-party apps.
ritabratamaiti··on JPMorgan to Shell Out $290M to Epstein's Victims
(Note)[https://atlasalpha.serenebase.com/post?recordId=recOLlq0KKbT...]: The agreement comes after JPMorgan's CEO, Jamie Dimon, claimed he barely knew of Epstein's existence, a claim that has raised more than a few eyebrows.
ritabratamaiti··on Deere to allow farmers to repair their own equipment
While I agree with you that companies should provide sufficient information to enable consumers to repair their products, I think considering the complexity that goes into manufacturing mechanical components and fabricating circuit boards, it would be a long shot for many consumers to repair equipment on their own.

Hobbyists/industrial outfits would be a different story as they would have in-house expertise....

ritabratamaiti··on AGI timelines ignore the social factor at their peril

ritabratamaiti··on The Monopoly of Violence in Civilizations: More Than Just a Means of Control
From Ancient Rome to Modern Societies: How the Monopoly of Violence Maintains Order in Civilizations
ritabratamaiti··on Why are we calling it crypto? Just call them private coins
I think the allure of "crypto" is the same as the allure of "gold": it's a store of value that isn't subject to government manipulation (may/may not always be true)
