risyachka··on We want you to build the next Git platform on Cloudflare
cloudflare has their weird proprietary stack like workers etc and they build a ton of low effort products on it.

a few years ago it was exciting to read their product launches - and to use them.

Now it feels like a wave of slop. They do whatever next thing is trending on twitter. fs for agents? sure! new git? sure! agent os? Sure!

like there is absolutely no filter. whatever pops in their mind they push it. and the results are mediocre at best.

Based on what you described I don't really see what value you add on top of AI.

>> I can monitor my competitors and copy every feature a/b test resolution they’ve done instantly for (3$ of my budget)

yeah, everyone can.

>> I’m an early adaptor of the latest models.

latest models become default one as soon as they are released. so everyone is an early adopter now.

risyachka··on Google's first Suncatcher orbital data center test launches October 1
It needs a single use case to justify its existence. And I am pretty sure it has one. The question is will google reveal it? Probably not.

Even as some sort of failsafe compute for when some meteor hits the earth - already enough for a government to pay 10000x premium for it and it will bring in cash.

Obviously this is not intended to play in the same league as common enterprise datacenter.

Sorry I meant useful for people as in humanity. Not for a business that needs to automate email spam campaign.

>> the solution to AI's PR problem is to cure cancer

I think its much simpler than that. Anything actually useful for people would be a good solution.

Obviously image gen and code gen is not the case, as though it does increase productivity, it doesn't make anyone's life actually better. If it led to 4 day work week - sure. Otherwise it could easily be net negative.

risyachka··on Learning Programming in an Age of LLMs
>> Yes, new jobs were created, but often not for those people who lost their jobs

This is the most obvious thing so many people who claim "new jobs were created" miss.

Yeah sure, new jobs will be created. But not for 90% of those who lost them (and most likely not for the one who claims this). You either won't have time, or energy or else to learn it and compete etc. Sure a small % of people will transition, a massive amount will not.

>> The truth is that the cost doesn't leave much room for error or experimentation

Yeah if you are solo developer without budget.

For any business this is nothing, the ROI is massive.

risyachka··on Claude for Commerce Agents
anthropic shows here a little demo of a raw python agent, absolutely no value add.

this is just marketing for them, they will do these kinds of posts for every possible industry.

risyachka··on AI is hitting entry-level jobs hardest, Stanford study finds
If you find a proper senior dev - it will be like 10 or more of that junior you described.

Because you can’t shortcut experience. And AI multiplies that.

I’ve seen what ai-focused good senior dev can do and it is scary.

risyachka··on Coding expertise is going to collapse from AI reliance
Maybe some day, not in the short term. I've seen output of bad developers using Fable and after that I sleep safe.

A bad or below average dev with AI will run your product and company into the ground in a matter of weeks.

From contributions tab, it looks like 99% was vibe-coded by 1 person, and it does not look like they have any compilers background.

Edit: typo

risyachka··on If coding has been solved, why does software keep getting worse?
The only way something can be “solved” if it is eliminated. Otherwise it is never solved.
risyachka··on Micro-SaaS Is Dead. Service With A Software Replaces It
>> Because AI is crushing small standalone software

The only thing AI is crushing is newcomers.

Standalone software has expertise and distribution, the only 2 things that matter and that your new software does not have.

Also the needs of a business have nothing to do with software you vibe code for yourself. Its compliance, backups, reliability. Not a few features claude did for you.

At this point it does not show anything as models are fine tuned on all kinds of benchmarks.
risyachka··on Postmortem of a British Startup: Tract
>> Incentives to reduce the value of their largest asset are not strong

Its not just incentives. It can nuke entire economy if done not carefully.

Ideally new housing supply would be slowly increasing so that prices stop growing and there are incentives to invest into other assets but at the same time not reduce the wealth people have been building for many years.

But overall it seems like the world would be a much better and prosperous place if basic need like housing would be more of a commodity than a wealth driver.

If you have housing you can spend your income on building companies, wealth, experiments etc.

If you spend 30 years buying a place to live - obviously your hands are tight pretty badly.

risyachka··on Evidence of inconsistencies in evaluation process and selection of winners
When you factor in all the factors (fixing issues, implementing features that were added only because it was easy and shouldn’t exist in the first place, losing skills in the process (this one is a fact), losing grip on the codebase etc - it is not cheaper at all, probably more expensive
risyachka··on Evidence of inconsistencies in evaluation process and selection of winners
It doesn’t matter how useful it is if it is net negative (I am not saying that it is as I don’t have the data, but very well could be).

risyachka··on Command and Conquer Generals natively ported to macOS, iPhone, iPad using Fable
Its not 20 years old, GeneralsX was updated like a day ago. So the game in question is very modern and cross platform.
risyachka··on Command and Conquer Generals natively ported to macOS, iPhone, iPad using Fable
>> well duh of course it was able to make a working ios app from a game made 20 years ago

But it didn't, thats the whole point. The game in question was updated like a day ago, not 20 years.

Fable added few config files for iOS and a gesture mapping to mouse events. It did not do any of the hard stuff.

The title is so misleading that it is probably the single reason why this made to the front page with people assuming it actually did anything hard here.

If anyone deserves the recognition - its the upstream projects that made the game modern and cross platform in the first place.

risyachka··on Command and Conquer Generals natively ported to macOS, iPhone, iPad using Fable
Right? All Fable did was a ported an already cross platform project to ios. Does not look like any sort of heavy lifting there, opus 4.6 would do just fine
