Ok, that got my attention. Its refreshing to see a new language which doesn't takes 10 seconds to build a Hello world example.
Couple of questions;
1. The Windows installation is a bit tedious. Any plan to support Scoop for installing Onyx?
2. Given that gamedev seems to be a focus, with the raylib integration, how is the performance compared to something like c. Will a comparable onyx program get me to at least 50%+ of the performance of c? I haven't used webassembly much so I am curious how this works out.
I was just thinking of creating a new project to try out Raylib 5. So your post has perfect timing for me!
Best of luck to your language. Looks lovely in the online playground. Now going to set it up on my device
Given that I am super interested in the indie titles they are publishing right now I will still be cheering on for the new company!
Google has far too many services and products which are always touching the boundaries defined by the EU privacy laws. they trip the line with anything and the regulators can make it much harder/costlier for Google to do business in EU.
make sure your number is register in DnD. Use the official DnD app to register a compliant https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=trai.gov.in.dn...
The app rating should have given you a clue that the app is quite a crapfest, but it is still better than the steps folks in US have to wade through. it takes a couple of clicks and a short few typed words to raise the complaint.
Another way is to simply send a sms to 1909 as
> “<Content of UCC, including Referred Telephone Number (RTN) if any>, <header/telephone number from which UCC has originated>, <dd/mm/yy, hh:mm>”
the schema is different for all ISPs, but in general none seems to adhere strictly to the schema as long as the datetime, phone number and comma delimiters are correct.
Here is the link from airtel on the way to file such complaints; https://www.airtel.in/business/commercial-communication/asse...
ISPs are required by law to folloup on these and once you have sent the sms, you will get update smses for your complaint.
I usually just use the DnD app and when that isn't working, I send the sms. the schema i can get from my sms history and just change the caller id, phone and date. And in return I get the satisfaction of getting the update about the phone number of the violater being barred or limited to 20 calls in a month.
I would definitely use type safety if I had a lot of external data sources. or if there are lots of people working with me. Otherwise, I am beginning to go back to dynamic languages at least for web dev.
Let's say, you want to do UI, then there are 4-5 options ahead of you and you will no know how well these libraries are maintained till you use them. Very likely you wil find yourself mucking about the code of these libraries to fix weird bugs or adding a feature your game needs.
So, great for prototyping and learning about game dev. But not something I recommend for actual projects with dates.
Overall IMO, the closest to Unity alternative I can recommend are;
1. Godot 2. Defold 3. Gdevelop (HTML based. No-code development, which can make people love or hate it) 4. CTjs
If you are ok with paying for the gamedev - Gamemaker is another solid choice.
Each of these have their pros and cans, but are full fledged engines with huge communities and helpful resources to go with them.
And if an editor free engine is what you are looking for , Raylib would be highly recommended.
My personal requirements would be;
* 2d focused * huge community with tutorials & documentation for everything * libraries & extensions for all the usual gamedev stuff like camera, lighting etc. * asset protection baked in * console & mobile export targets. * Steam integration
Personally, I am personally leaning heavily towards Raylib using zig bindings - with Gdevelop/CTjs for quick prototyping of ideas.
I have tried Rust engines like Bevy, but the Rust tax was too heavy for me and I personally could not proceed beyond simple projects. your mileage may vary. Fyrox is good too, but there are pretty much no tutorials out there.
Another dark horse you can consider is the Flame engine on Flutter. Its very feature complete and you get all the mobile niceties for free. it has a nice community but examples, documentation tutorials etc are non existent.
Finally, if wishes come true, i'd really like a native version of the Phaser engine which will allow me to code in typescript, have all the existing Phaser features/apis, let me leverage its huge tutorials/resources, generate native binaries, enable baking in assets etc- but we don't have anything like that yet -_-
And I assure you that I am no bot. I acquire sustenance, go into low energy states and have a lifetime warranty like all fellow meatbags.
Why are we even testing for superconductivity with levitation, instead of just checking for current loss/heat loss while conducting?
And I feel disappointed that we are more concerned about whether the title should be tagged as opinion instead of the content therein, which is well worth discussing. Talk about missing the forest for the trees.
WEI is one of the most damaging plans that Google has put across in the near past and it is important that we should consider the different avenues of pressure that we can use, to get Google to reconsider.
Funnily enough, one man's trash is another's treasure. For me groups is a killer feature. just being able to create ad hoc groups for different threads of conversations is what makes teams tick for me. Without the groups, I would have to use channels which for me pretty much useless.
