riiii··on Galaxy Buds reportedly exploded in a user's ear causing permanent hearing loss
It totally bombed though!
riiii··on Xkcd 1425 (Tasks) turns ten years old today
Back in the day I had a manager that didn't understand programming.

To him, it was just one button that would open this small info window. Just one button. Just one window.

It took him weeks to understand that we didn't have the data ready he wanted to show. We could do it, but it would take weeks of research and development.

riiii··on ts-blank-space is a fast type-stripping compiler
Agreed. It looks OK on the surface, but if you need enums then TS enums is going to end up in frustration.
riiii··on Does your startup need complex cloud infrastructure?
I've seen more than one start up go tits up because they were too focused on designing "Google scale ready" infrastructure.
riiii··on Web scraping with GPT-4o: powerful but expensive
I like Crawlee: https://crawlee.dev/
riiii··on Sleep on it: How the brain processes many experiences, even when 'offline'
This works. It also works fine for programming tasks. If you feel your struggling or making a slow progress on your current task, switch to a different task.

When you come back to the first one your subconscious has usually processed it quite a bit.

riiii··on Starting today, YouTube is almost unusable on Firefox
These are glaringly obvious flaws that even a basic rudimentary QA test will uncover.
riiii··on Starting today, YouTube is almost unusable on Firefox
Works for me, but the settings cog hasn't been OK for a long time, the settings menu doesn't have any text.

But all my Firefox problems happen on Google owned sites. Maps navigation doesn't highlight the route (desktop). Google image search doesn't work (desktop).

riiii··on Tattoo ink sold on Amazon has high levels of weird and rare bacteria
I'm sure the horrified Amazon staff will deal with the problem swiftly by removing the listing from their website.
riiii··on Cops are using AI chatbots to write crime reports. Will they hold up in court?
I've seen a policeman write a crime report. He cherry picked and refurbished facts in a way that AI would have blushed.

Perhaps the AI transcription isn't such a bad idea if the original output is preserved as a diff to the policeman's report.

riiii··on Fixing a bug in Google Chrome as a first-time contributor
You're such a good man, you don't need to use such hash language.
riiii··on Open-Source Cola
I can think of a market that would prefer heavier emphasis on the cocaine ingredient. To the point that the other ingredients are totally optional.

But for legal reasons I don't want to insinuate which market that is.

riiii··on Open-Source Cola
Personally I agree but statistically we're both wrong.
riiii··on Police Chief Says Cops Have a 5th Amendment Right to Leave Body Cameras Off
Then apply full on adverse inference to those cases.
riiii··on The anatomy of a 2AM mental breakdown
I'm the same. The only thing that has a chance of working is to remind myself that it's the middle of the night and however terrifying this is I'll deal with it in the morning.
riiii··on The anatomy of a 2AM mental breakdown
I heard a sleep expert say that during the night your logic and reasoning abilities are greatly reduced. I think it was in relation to dreaming, you don't want to apply much logic to that stuff.

That's why trying to solve problems in the middle of the night just ends up in stress.

riiii··on Increasing Retention Without Increasing Study Time [pdf]
Good question and I think you're making a valid point.

I think overall on average they would do a decent job of explaining it in writing to equally brilliant people. Not so sure about "dumbing it down" for the "others".

riiii··on Increasing Retention Without Increasing Study Time [pdf]
Yes, but there are plenty of exceptions. I know brilliantly knowledgeable and extraordinary clever people that are so socially awkward that they can't explain virtually anything.
riiii··on YouTube Video to Tabs and Lyrics
A convicted felon.
riiii··on YouTube Video to Tabs and Lyrics
Very interesting. I don't suppose this would work with instrumental music?

Anyone know of a thing that does?

riiii··on SponsorBlock – skip sponsor segments on YouTube
I've been on the internet since before it was all about ads and clocks.

I've never intentionally clicked on an ad. It's either been an accidental drive by click or deception.

riiii··on SponsorBlock – skip sponsor segments on YouTube
That rings with what Uber said, that they'd been scammed $100 million.

riiii··on An open-source flow battery kit
It would be helpful to start the article with a link to why flow batteries are amazing.
riiii··on Go is my hammer, and everything is a nail
Go is nice but people either love or hate the error handling.

There have been some good proposals but because people are so passionate about all their requirements and edge cases, that I don't think it'll ever get improved.

riiii··on Server Mono: A Typeface Inspired by Typewriters, Apple's SF Mono, and CLIs
Moaning about my personal preference, it's not for me. I find the letter shapes inconsistent and line spacing is too narrow. My eyes hurt after reading a few lines.

But hey, well done on getting it out the door!

riiii··on "Jeff Bezos and Amazon tried to imprison my husband"
People like you make the internet a better place. Thanks!
riiii··on Larry Wall's Very Own Home Page
It wasn't a "trend". It was Apache's way of automatically mapping a username to his home directory. I feel old.
riiii··on Open Source Farming Robot
As an open source project it's tremendously useful. This is a start of new era in human history.
riiii··on Open Source Farming Robot
So what? I don't let efficiency control my life or hobbies.
riiii··on What happens in a mind that can't 'see' mental images
The internal monologue is interesting. If you are taking, who is listening?
