ridiculous_leke··on Claude: Elevated errors across all models – Resolved
Thinking of doing competitive programming for this very reason.
ridiculous_leke··on Ask HN: How much coding should beginners learn in the AI era?
Enough to get through CS101. Databases, networks, operating systems, and all that hardware will certainly be around. Agents can work through them but the trust deficit will still be present(unless something fundamentally changes). So, learn coding but don't get obsessed with it.
ridiculous_leke··on Running local models is good now
Can you comment on the quality and accuracy of it? People have managed to run Gemma 26b without GPU on old CPUs but I don't think quality is anywhere close to what Gemma 12b offers.
ridiculous_leke··on Running local models is good now
A median laptop is no bueno for running a reliable model(which will be qwen 27b as per my reading here and r/localllama). Powerful macs would be prevalent in certain areas of the world but in rest of the world personal machines aren't always that powerful.
ridiculous_leke··on GitHub Actions was down
> Which certainly made me shit myself, briefly.

Can you sue companies for inducing such anxiety?

ridiculous_leke··on MIT: 20% drop in incoming graduate students
Me crying as a South Asian
ridiculous_leke··on Ask HN: Is Claude down again?
I use Ollama to run local models but have never used one with CC. Curious what models work best for people.
ridiculous_leke··on Ask HN: Is Claude Down Again?
Can people drop a good LocalLlama setup that I can run on M4?
ridiculous_leke··on Just two days of oatmeal cut bad cholesterol by 10%
What do you have for breakfast before that if I may ask?
ridiculous_leke··on Claude Status – Elevated error rates across multiple models
API Error: 500
ridiculous_leke··on The Napoleon Technique: Postponing things to increase productivity
Have used it quite often. It goes well with "pick your battles". As the article pointed out, the trick is to schedule the tasks(mostly non-urgent ones which fall into top-right of the Eisenhover matrix) and check the progress on it.
ridiculous_leke··on Finland detains ship and its crew after critical undersea cable damaged
A nation state's values should align with EU for them to be part of the group. I don't think Russia would ever choose to join the union considering that even UK(which is culturally closer to Europe) left it.
ridiculous_leke··on US sanctions EU government officials behind the DSA
This just sounds like scapegoating to disguise lack of political will in the west. Did Mearsheimer have that kind of influence among Western governments?

I guess we're going to see more of such scapegoating as western politicians fail to deliver on their promises on Ukraine. Where's the multinational force that was going to defend Ukraine?

ridiculous_leke··on Why we built Lightpanda in Zig
In practice aren't such services behind a reverse proxy/WAF? The other day I found an endpoint in the wild outputting a DB table. I tried fuzzing it to gather more evidence of a SQL injection vuln but my attempts were flagged by AWS WAF.
ridiculous_leke··on India orders smartphone makers to preload state-owned cyber safety app
Probably not. Though, for a decade after that the Federal government was controlled by a key opposition party. Essentially they(people who accused him) had all the time to investigate him.
ridiculous_leke··on India orders smartphone makers to preload state-owned cyber safety app
Impartiality factors less when the entire Federal government apparatus is used to investigate some one for more than a decade. Also, by that reasoning should we start believing in the principle "guilty before proven otherwise"?

> It does help the discussion here, the comment correctly points out how this literal 1984-esque action plays into the current regime's totalitarian tendencies which go way before the 2002 pogrom and of course their parent org, RSS which is a whole other can of worms.

Who decided that those riots were a progrom? That term itself is misleading.

I am not fan of this step but the problems it's designed to tackle are huge in India and it's very much an option unless there are solid alternatives.

ridiculous_leke··on India orders smartphone makers to preload state-owned cyber safety app
It doesn't. But judicial scrutiny under a government clearly opposed to him does clear the mislabelling. And how does it even help the discussion here?
ridiculous_leke··on India orders smartphone makers to preload state-owned cyber safety app
What do you mean by "Brahminical Hindus"?
ridiculous_leke··on India orders smartphone makers to preload state-owned cyber safety app
Probably the same amount ISI spends on anti-Modi propaganda peddlers.
ridiculous_leke··on India orders smartphone makers to preload state-owned cyber safety app
> problem that is better solved by improved education and targeted campaigns against common security pitfalls

Will take decades if not more than a century to implement in India. Let alone old people, even the boomer generation is immensely tech illiterate.

ridiculous_leke··on Fire TV: Amazon to block piracy apps in the future
Don't see a list there. Will they also ban apps like Stremio and Kodi?
ridiculous_leke··on Meow.camera
I am with you on principle. But how to get animal protein without harming animals? Can't do milk & related products because of lactose intolerance and other vegetarian sources are not that protein dense.
ridiculous_leke··on Rate, Price Drops Won't Substantially Improve Affordability
Isn't Austin going through a price drop at least for rent? That could offer a case study.
ridiculous_leke··on Women dating safety app 'Tea' breached, users' IDs posted to 4chan
You can get Apple Legal involved if your face is on the app and they should get the related posts removed.
ridiculous_leke··on Anthropic signs a $200M deal with the Department of Defense
Not invalidating your concerns but don't see a strong reason to not do it considering that every other nation is going to leverage this tech.
ridiculous_leke··on Linda Yaccarino is leaving X
> someone marketed viral phone apps targeting teenagers, engineered app engagement mechanics targeting kids, and openly used every growth hacking trick in the book to manipulate App Store charts

Just curious. Any YC companies that have engaged in these tactics?

ridiculous_leke··on Side projects I've built since 2009
Would be cool to see what kind of side projects remain unfinished.
ridiculous_leke··on O(n) vs. O(n^2) Startups
I wonder what's optimal for me as an employee. I am working in a O(n) startup where colleagues are nice, work is streamlined yet challenging, and I do see growth potential in the long term. Several O(n^2) founders have reached out recently and the pay is attractive(even after accounting for a move to an HCOL area).
