richrichardsson··on I said no and Apple said yes
I want this on the macOS Settings badge.

Have no intention to upgrade my Intel Mac Pro to Tahoe, so Settings is going to permanently have the "something needs attention" badge I guess.

richrichardsson··on A 32-year-old bug walks into a Telnet server
Was just coming to comment on that too.

"Tell that to the ARM based Acorn Archimedes I was using at 6th Form College in 1991."

You have to disable all ad-blocking (either extensions or Pi-Hole) in order to make it past that "feature".

richrichardsson··on Gemini Omni 1.1 Flash
Unfortunately sometimes you can't even vote with your wallet.

I was bored yesterday and started watching a stupid documentary series about UFOs/UAP on Netflix. It was immediately obvious that the voice over was AI slop bullshit. All I could do is stop watching and thumb down it, but they still have my money. :(

You don't relinquish copyright by using a FOSS license though, right?

AOC/Agon OLEDs also have the annoying nag that fires repeatedly to say "Your monitor will go into pixel cleaning mode in 10/5/4/3/2/1 minutes". I still haven't figured out how to easily defer that, and it's super annoying when in the middle of a Rocket League match that the monitor just turns itself off to pixel clean for 10 minutes.
richrichardsson··on Don't be a meat proxy
My mistake, I was under the impression Reddit was the place for facetious "funny" comments.
richrichardsson··on Don't be a meat proxy
Aren't you clever knowing the periodic table symbol for gold! Actual Intelligence could grasp this was a simple keytranspose typo...
richrichardsson··on Kill The Cookie Banner
I'm fed up of Croatia never appearing in lists of EU states. I'd get involved if they were added to this site.
richrichardsson··on I tricked Claude into leaking your deepest, darkest secrets
Same, my D.O.B. is 1/1/1970 for anything that doesn't justify having the real deal.
richrichardsson··on Backtrack-Free Cursive
I read the backtrack free "pretty" as "pretly" at first; it adds cognitive load to understand it as intended.

Been around a lot longer than Claude Opus.

richrichardsson··on OpenWarp
The other thing I really love is the cross-platform support.

I don't have to tweak my usage of the terminal depending which platform I'm on.

I just have to remember to use Ctrl+Shift for copy/paste on Windows/Linux.

richrichardsson··on XOR'ing a register with itself is the idiom for zeroing it out. Why not sub?
For 68k depending on the size you're interested in then it mostly doesn't matter.

.b and .w -> clr eor sub are all identical

for .l moveq #0 is the winner

> Did generated code decrease the price of software products?

I think it's too early to say.

You could argue that if software development is low effort due to "vibe coding" then it doesn't have the same value as it once did. Perhaps there'll be a race to the bottom by new entrants to the market who don't need to pay a whole development team and can massively undercut the incumbents. Or perhaps the race to the bottom will be in quality along with price, but the savvy user will see the value the incumbents provide.

richrichardsson··on Revision Demoparty 2026: Razor1911 [video]
This came up in the Discord party chat, basically there isn't a size limit in the rules[1], but going beyond 2GB would be concerning that it's not a real-time demo but instead just playback of animation.

richrichardsson··on The curious case of retro demo scene graphics
Not sure I agree with the final takeaway point. At least from a personal standpoint anyway. I used AI images in a couple of Amiga intros, but actively admitted to using them. At the time there wasn't quite the backlash against their use, so now would completely steer clear, but not having access to a graphic artist is reflected in the output I've managed in the recent times (zero).
richrichardsson··on Apple Just Lost Me
I tried using a debit card, it will not let me progress. The issue is a debit card can be issued to anyone, including those under 18. So that then becomes a useless age verification.
richrichardsson··on Apple Just Lost Me
This new age verification is such bullshit, I don't even live in the UK any more yet have to be subject to that bullshit because Apple (and a bunch of other companies) can't comprehend the concept that people might want to change which country they live in.

Can't use my expired provisional license to confirm my age.

Can't use my Croatian ID to confirm my age.

Can't use a credit card, because I never have had nor do I ever want to have a credit card.

So I'm fucked.

richrichardsson··on Apple Just Lost Me
I doubt they will. I suspect the rumours of a touch screen MacBook are likely true and that's the reason for the shitshow that is Tahoe's UI.
richrichardsson··on Meta Platforms: Lobbying, dark money, and the App Store Accountability Act
Netflix age recommendations are a complete joke.

There was one documentary series that apparently appropriate for 7+ and had "motherfucker" within the first 30 seconds of one episode.

I don't know which parallel reality they're from where that is an appropriate word for a 7 year old to learn.

richrichardsson··on Dulce et Decorum Est (1921)
Instantly took me back 35 years.

I wonder if you can age a person based on them knowing this and whatever the Siegfried Sassoon poem that was covered in order to demonstrate onomatopoeia? I suppose it would depend how long it was (or indeed if it still is) part of the curriculum.

richrichardsson··on You Want to Visit the UK? You Better Have a Google Play or App Store Account
I would half like to move back to the UK, but I'm terribly worried that after jumping through all the hoops so that my EU citizen partner could come with us and be a part our children's lives that Reform would get in and throw out all the "undesirables" (basically anyone without a British Passport at first, sure they won't stop there). I'm really not sure how likely them attaining power is, but it sure looks like a terrible but possible future from afar. :(
richrichardsson··on Meta Deployed AI and It Is Killing Our Agency
Switch off your ad blocker/pi hole temporarily..

I tried three times of getting insta-banned before getting advised here to do the same.

richrichardsson··on The AI boom is causing shortages everywhere else

richrichardsson··on Xcode 26.3 – Developers can leverage coding agents directly in Xcode
That makes sense. The latest Sequoia update can't understand it's done updating and shows the "welcome" message every time I boot. I won't upgrade to Tahoe until absolutely necessary. It's like Apple is doing everything in its power to alienate their users.
richrichardsson··on Xmake: A cross-platform build utility based on Lua
I honestly didn't mean it like that, but I can understand that it comes across that way.

A better wording would be "what advantage does this have over premake which is also Lua based".

richrichardsson··on Xmake: A cross-platform build utility based on Lua
I apologise for this:

What's wrong with premake which is also Lua based?

when I meant:

What advantage does this have over premake which is also Lua based?
