richardg··on Is Heroku’s DNS down again?
yup - their site is down
richardg··on Ask HN: Web frameworks – which less popular frameworks are you using and why?
For PHP, been using F3 (https://fatfreeframework.com/3.8/home) for a long time. It light and gets things done fast. Even made a CMS out of it.
richardg··on Show HN: NFTPort – Turn anything into an NFT with a single API call for free

richardg··on Show HN: Formsend – Serverless Website Forms

richardg··on Ask HN: Where do you find potential customers to validate your idea / MVP?

richardg··on [dead]
I think this refers to the body of the modal box.. The word body has a lot of meanings. Maybe it should say 'One fine HTML body...'
richardg··on Gay teens tortured, killed in Texas: USA still worse than Russia
Can't find any reference to Texas.
richardg··on Ask HN: Building a video publishing app in 2 months with only $5,000?
Take a look at videowatchr.com and toogl.es - they get content from Youtube via JS. Are you looking for HTML5 or native apps?
richardg··on [dead]
It's for Doug Engelbart. The inventor of the computer mouse. He died today.
richardg··on Show HN: Google Glass feed (allgoogleglass.com)
Thanks for the feedback. I'm using Arual Light generated by FontSquirrel and I think FF does not support font-smoothing. Will find a fix though.
richardg··on What a stupid idea
I like the first line on the last paragraph - "The future is extremely hard to see through the lens of the present."

What we do in the present can affect the future but we can not predict what will actually happen. There's too much variables involved.

richardg··on Why Video Discovery Startups All Fail
This made me think.. and I believe you're correct. Got this video discovery site I've been working on for some time on videowatchr.com and it's going nowhere. Thinking of abandoning it.
richardg··on ThankBee.com is going viral on the ISS
Yes, all sites with Google Analytics..
richardg··on Check Your Google Real Time Analytics: International Space Station gag
Mine too... nice..
richardg··on Proper DOM Practices
Group & Align Vendor Prefixes is a good idea.. more readable.
richardg··on Show HN: A simpler way to watch videos
Thanks. It refers to the simpler interface. Just the video thumbs, text links and responsive layout. It's still a work in progress though.
richardg··on Show HN: A simple YouTube experience
Thank you for the comment. The site's been around for 2+ yrs already and has undergone a lot of revisions. The site is missing a lot of usability features (the previous version got a playlist feature but I got no time at the moment to improve it).

The site is evolving and I may add other video sources and more features at some point. For now, the site offers a simple and straightforward way to watch the videos.

The big Q is why? - Yes, at some point, I have asked myself that question too.. I made the site as a side project and has been attached to it ever since.. Tweaking and improving it.. At some point, I told myself to stop because it's getting nowhere. Now, I realized the site helped me learn new things on every revision. New concepts and techniques. I guess the site will continue to evolve with me and be part of my journey. As for the name, the one with the correct spelling was already taken.

richardg··on Show HN: Metro inspired website
indeed. sliding panels don't work in IE8
richardg··on Html5please
WoW! Great work.. A good resource.
richardg··on Things You Should Never Do [2000]
There's a subtle reason that programmers always want to throw away the code and start over. The reason is that they think the old code is a mess.

This one hits the nail on the head, also, maybe it's better since you did it yourself, rather than somebody else?

Rather than reading someone else's code, it's better to write your own..

then the next guy comes along and does the same thing to your old code..

richardg··on Just launched a start up, animated greeting cards service without Flash
Very nice..more javascript goodies. Amazing use of div layers and animation via jQuery.

Nice and simple layout. Got a similar site too. http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=2529573 It's here - http://ireadhn.g-webtech.com/

Did you use the same API? I have never had a chance to work on the comments but got inspired to work on it again.

Good work!

richardg··on 63% Prefer a Dark Themed Text Editor
Been using the Dark scheme on Komodo Edit. Its easier on the eyes and is a big factor especially if you sit in front of your monitor most of the day (or night).
