ricardbejarano··on Incident with Pull Requests, Issues, Git Operations and API Requests
How is it painful to use GitLab? Curious, as a user of both, I find them both nice. I like GitLab CI/CD more than I do GHA, but that's personal preference/bias more than anything objective.
ricardbejarano··on Can I run AI locally?
OP here, it's not mine though!
ricardbejarano··on Ask HN: Do You Have a Homelab?
There definitely will be! One of my main goals is to bridge that gap.

ricardbejarano··on Amazon strategised about keeping water use secret
I don't know why, but the fact that a "pro-almond group" exists chuckled me up.

This is equal parts ingenious and dishonest.

ricardbejarano··on EU regulations to look out for in 2025
I don't _necessarily_ have a problem with quantity, it's more about accessibility.

Rules are only fair if the people supposed to follow them can make sense of them.

ricardbejarano··on EU regulations to look out for in 2025
This needing to exist is sad, but keep it up.

ricardbejarano··on Gokapi: Lightweight selfhosted Firefox Send alternative with AWS S3 support
I run https://www.wormhol.org

Ping me if you want your own instance.

It uploads to S3. I could make it such that only you/admin can download. Right now everyone with the link can.

Supports up to 5GB (S3's limit without doing multipart uploads).

ricardbejarano··on Cloudflare blocking my IP (2023)
That response is not from Cloudflare but a community member.
ricardbejarano··on Cloudflare blocking my IP (2023)
So?

Like, I get it, a very vocal minority of HN is very much against Cloudflare for perfectly valid reasons, including this risk.

But the value Cloudflare provides to these sites far outweights the problems. Otherwise they'd dump them.

This guy should do as said and just ask their ISP for another address to NAT from.

I'll get severely downvoted for this tho.

ricardbejarano··on Don't name packages common nouns
FWIW, all my internal packages are suffixed with an x.

logx, errorx, typex, metricx...

They read just like "s" so it reads like the plural of their word, but conflicts are much rarer (there's plenty of "types" packages).

It also tells me which package is mine or third-party immediately.

ricardbejarano··on Apple users are being locked out of their Apple IDs with no explanation
I do this with ProtonMail, that's my root email. Not for any particular security reason. It's just another email provider.

ricardbejarano··on A more mature take on stateless Terraform
Author, thank you! I'll tune it down a notch, this is most definitely helpful feedback.
ricardbejarano··on A more mature take on stateless Terraform
> So instead of generating state by doing API requests, this would generate state from code in git, which does not necessarily represent the real world state of resources.

What you're talking about here is unrelated to whether the state comes from regular Terraform state or if it's generated using the source code, as the refresh phase should happen during both.

ricardbejarano··on A more mature take on stateless Terraform
Author here, thank you!
ricardbejarano··on A more mature take on stateless Terraform
Author here, you're right, provider versions are something I did not account for.

Good catch!

ricardbejarano··on A more mature take on stateless Terraform
Why would not all information about the last known state be expressed in the source?
ricardbejarano··on Habits of top engineers
To be honest I go by feel. I usually can't spend more than 3 full focus days on something without getting burns.
ricardbejarano··on Habits of top engineers
I have found success in using your "coping mechanism". I usually alternate between 2 projects that need my "engineering cycles" and then have N that need my "management cycles", which I don't find as exhausting and don't drain "steam" as quickly.

In bodybuilding, this is called "periodization", I'd say that's a pretty accurate term to describe this.

May I suggest a working group on stateless Terraform? [1] or at least some debate around the possibility of supporting it?
