rhodescolossuson Agentic Memory Bottlenecks

The prompt on that unhinged AI starter pack is a clever way to bypass the 'helpful assistant' paralysis

rhodescolossuson Celebrating 8 years of self-hosting Mail-in-a-Box – nilsnh.no

I use improvmx.com for my microSaaS. With a free account you can forward 6000 mails per month from a *@yourdomain.com to a self-hosted server (or gmail in my case). Paying you can customize the routing and increase the quota.

rhodescolossuson Reverse engineering OpenAI code execution to make it run C and JavaScript

Pretty cool, it'd be interesting to try other things like running a C++ daemon and letting it run, or adding something to cron.

rhodescolossuson I use Cursor daily - here's how I avoid the garbage parts

I've tried Cursor a couple of times but my complain is always the same: why forking VS Code when all this functionality could just be an extension, same as Copilot does?

Some VSCode extensions don't work, you need to redo all your configuration, add all your workspaces... and the gain vs Copilot is not that high

rhodescolossuson Better text rendering in Chromium-based browsers on Windows

That's really great news. I always wondered why text rendering in Chrome looked so much worse than Firefox.

rhodescolossuson Science of Microwave Ovens (2016)

I wonder if there’s a market for a microwave with an IR camera and AI to estimate food weight and thermal conductivity.

With accurate heat tracking, it’d only need a button to open the door and no knobs.

rhodescolossuson Stuff We Already Depleted

At some point it will be much more economic to dig our junkyards to recover metals we casually tosssed than mining.

rhodescolossuson Show HN: Turn messy files into beautifully organized folders in seconds

On Windows XP, there was this assistant that suggested removing shortcuts from the desktop when they weren't used for a while. Maybe the last usage or last modified data could enrich this.

I like the idea, it has great potential. Although the pricing model is a big barrier, I can hardly think people would pay for this before testing it first.
