rhipitr··on US Navy wirelessly beams 1.6 kW of power a kilometer using microwaves
Would this inefficiency be acceptable if it’s transmitting power over rugged/impassable terrain?

Is there not a getting started section on this page? After skimming the linked page and comments here, it seems to be very configurable in how it runs, but besides a community forum, is there just a general setup guide for a basic use case somewhere?
rhipitr··on But what about the bus factor?
Does a code review provide the necessary time for someone unfamiliar with the code base to understand all of the business logic that will be affected and where this new addition sits within that hierarchy? Code reviews have never seemed contextually rich to me.
rhipitr··on Clinical trial shows that the use of Vitamin D supplement improves sleep quality
I had been living in an area that’s particularly gloomy in the later fall and winter months. My wife had not been feeling great. At her regular checkup, my wife was prescribed ergocalciferol for a rather pronounced vitamin D deficiency. She said she felt like a new person after taking it.
rhipitr··on 4 Year Compensation Packages Comparison
Seems like location should be a toggle on this page as well, as I imagine that can contribute to a large variation in compensation figures (fairly or not).
rhipitr··on Uber, Postmates Agree on $2.65B All-Stock Deal
I do not look forward to that kind of future. As someone who has worked in food preparation, meals are usually quite unhealthy because they are designed to taste great. I can’t imagine eating delivered meals daily is good for your long term health. You would be surprised that seemingly healthy food, when made at a restaurant, is often anything but.
rhipitr··on Gitlab phished its own work-from-home staff, and 1 in 5 fell for it
The problem seems to me that companies and orgs want to send emails when it is convenient for them to do so (paystub ready, benefits enrollment open click here, etc.) but distribute the cognitive load to its employees/customers to figure out which emails are trustworthy and which emails are not. You eventually get trained to click on links in emails as a form of legitimate interaction.

rhipitr··on Austria to make basic face masks compulsory in supermarkets
Are there any companies in America mass producing basic cloth masks right now, or at least distributing them at scale?Trying to buy one online seems to be quite challenging right now (either back ordered from Amazon, or purchasing from Etsy are the only options I have found). To be fair, I have not searched too hard. I guess I can learn to sew as well.
rhipitr··on VxWorks now with C++17 and Rust support, alongside Ada and SPARK
In my experience, front-end projects always seem to get more attention and visibility from product teams, and the business in general. This seems to happen even when it’s a nascent product that doesn’t make any money yet, and older, more boring systems responsible for large percentages of company revenue often get ignored. I’m not sure if this is related to pay in any way, but it definitely seems like the visibility of front-end apps, and being able to showcase them to wider audiences, doesn’t hurt.
