rhencke··on What Claude Code Sends to the Cloud
Thank you for this writeup - we hit the same issue and effectively were getting DDOSed by Claude Code.
rhencke··on Time management trips I learned from years of hating Tim Ferriss (2009)
Why would you judge a person based purely on what other people say about them, and not on your own interactions with them?
rhencke··on Using Rust Macros to exfiltrate secrets
If they'd wanted you to do that, they would have named the files something like "CMakeLists.txt".
rhencke··on Google’s lawyer accidentally made a sensitive document public
Except.. it didn't blather on at all, and got right to the point.
rhencke··on The Deno Company
Unfortunately, the words "Deno", "TypeScript", and "removal" made for good headline material, and what was effectively a design document about performance optimization[1] became misinterpreted by many as heralding the removal of TypeScript from Deno, despite the document being updated with a explanatory warning that it was a very deep technical document about a specific part of architecture, and that Deno remains completely committed to supporting TypeScript forever.

Those lawyers are correct.

Not all jurisdictions of the world legally recognize the concept of 'public domain'.

rhencke··on Ask HN: What is a creative product you've discovered recently?
FUSER.

It's basically easy-mode music mixing/DJing with live cooperative multiplayer.

rhencke··on “I will slaughter you”
Have you ever sat down and had a long, and deep conversation with someone suffering from severe paranoid schizophrenia after they've experienced a psychotic break?

I assure you, you will quickly understand the difference.

Especially if that someone is your previously un-diagnosed friend and business partner.

rhencke··on The Dying Art of Persuasion
Do you not find yourself to be naturally persuaded by your friends through your time and experiences with them?
rhencke··on The Dying Art of Persuasion
I find that experience to be persuasive, as well. It persuades me about the kindness of your friends.
rhencke··on The Dying Art of Persuasion
Human interaction is fundamentally persuasive, even when completely unintentional. I don't think you can get around that.
rhencke··on Parler’s epic fail: A crash course on running your own servers
I think your underlying point is fair, but I'd like to see you post a more constructive explanation of where it would be useful for the analogy to capture a truth about cloud services that is not true for, say, flour - switching cloud providers is incredibly difficult due to vendor lock-in.
rhencke··on Parler’s epic fail: A crash course on running your own servers
It really was such a brilliant move on Netflix's part.
rhencke··on Parler’s epic fail: A crash course on running your own servers
I grew up in an era where running your own servers was just generally accepted practice.

It's been fascinating watching how dramatically that viewpoint has shifted over the years to the point where it is now a novel idea to do so.

rhencke··on Paw is joining Rapid API, Paw for the Web, Windows, and Linux is available
I think that's exactly what 'keep[ing] building the native macOS application as a first-class citizen' means.

rhencke··on Cabal: A peer-to-peer, off-grid, community-first, hackable chat platform
You may find https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Numbers_station interesting.
rhencke··on GitHub is fully available in Iran
This is true for the source control aspects of Git, but not all of the project management aspects of GitHub. (wikis, gists, gh-pages: yes. issues, pull requests: no)
rhencke··on Atlassian Cloud ToS section 3.3(I) prohibits discussing performance issues
How does this relate to the performance issues being discussed?
rhencke··on WebAssembly Studio
Small, positive steps in the right direction are how you get there.
rhencke··on WebAssembly Studio
It was a serious suggestion.

By working to understand and solve the problem that seems easy on its surface, either:

1. It ends up harder than it seems. The original poster gains a better understanding of what is preventing the originally proposed solution from working, and is in a better place to judge what needs changing, and generally everyone wins.

2. It ends up as easy as it seems. Not much time is spent, the original poster makes a valuable suggestion in the form of a patch/PR, and generally everyone wins.

rhencke··on WebAssembly Studio
Perhaps you could open a pull request to fix this.
rhencke··on Ask HN: What Lived Up to the Hype?
Who are you and how are you me?

I'll throw in Saturn Bomberman with 2 6-player taps for a total of 10-player mayhem on a single screen.

rhencke··on Balancing the needs around the CentOS platform
That is all well and good, but that is a different value proposition than what CentOS, until this point, was offering.

The original value proposition of CentOS was that it was a bug-for-bug compatible, drop-in replacement for Red Hat Enterprise Linux.

rhencke··on Apple M1 foreshadows Rise of RISC-V
It's mostly just inertia.

rhencke··on Being kind to others is good for your health
It's really just I didn't want to pull things into a discussion about someone's personal life.
rhencke··on Being kind to others is good for your health
I couldn't think of one so instead I'll just go with obfuscation. (it's ISBN 1432763962)
rhencke··on Being kind to others is good for your health
You don't always get a choice.
rhencke··on Being kind to others is good for your health
I have a book I'd like to recommend, that has helped me, in growing up around aggressive and manipulative people, learn to both identify these behaviors in others as well as learn tools for calmly and clearly enforcing personal boundaries, even in the face of the other side throwing temper tantrums or bullying. Can send it to your contact info, if it's something that'd interest you.
