Have you considered getting tested for sleep apnea?

> Dont get me wrong about short sellers too. The act of short selling is technically good. There are some good firms that pay for investigations into large public companies to expose complex crimes, then short sell to recoup and profit. Melvin isnt one of them.

Why can't they recoup their costs through put options?

In my view, short selling is a legalized form of fraud. A share of stock is "borrowed", but not with the actual owner's knowledge or permission. Then it is "sold", but unlike with a normal sale, the actual owner still thinks they own that share, as does the buyer. They can't both be correct. In a normal sale of some thing, when the buyer takes ownership, the former owner must relinquish ownership. And they'll both, henceforth, behave accordingly.

In a short sale scenario, both "owners" think they own the same share of stock. The "demand" they collectively create for two shares of the stock is sated by one share. So the price drops. When you have the ability (i.e. the money) to do it on a large scale, you drive the price of the stock down. That's the scam. It's not hard to understand.

IMO, the only reason short selling is legal is because it makes very rich and very powerful people even more rich and more powerful.

>I still have a bought-and-paid-for 3.5" floppy disk of PKZip from PKWare. I am the only one I know who ever actually paid for it.

I had one too, and I held onto the floppy and the plastic folder it came in for years, until I finally trashed it in a decluttering frenzy. I think the version I registered was 1.10.

Then perhaps ASM would be an even better starting point?

>And I thought to myself "Yep, I'm done here". Unfortunately I jumped ship too quickly and found myself in a job I hated, with a manger who (while not as vocally abusive) was just as bad.

One time, long back in my career, my then-boss jumped down my throat in a meeting for no valid reason. I clearly remember thinking to myself, "Is this it? Is this the day I tell this asshole to fuck off, and walk out the front door?" I decided not to, but I was in full-on job search mode the moment that meeting ended. It didn't take more than a couple of weeks before I gave notice. The next job was for less money, but it was basically my dream job at the time. It was the best move I ever made.

There's no moral or lesson to this story. I just thought I'd share it.

rhapsodic··on Crooked to the Millimetre
Props to you. I used to work as a carpenter, and I see the world differently because of it. When I walk down a city sidewalk past a brick building, I can picture what it was like, in say, 1910, when the brick facade was being laid. I'll look at a brick and wonder if it was hot, or cold, or rainy or sunny when that particular brick was bumped into its final resting place by the handle of the trowel, and I'll wonder what the mason had on his mind when he laid it.

When I used to build staircases, it always gave me pause to think that people not yet born would be walking up and down those stairs long after I'm dead. And that's the nature of your work. Your work product will outlive you by decades, or possibly centuries.

>Could do similar things to what Mark Cuban did to hedge his exposure of Yahoo stock after the purchase of his company. Basically shorting against your holding [1].

I interpreted that article to mean that he shorted the sector (Internet) that his holding (Yahoo) was part of, but without appreciably shorting his actual holding. (less than 5% of the fund he shorted.) Had the Internet sector (and therefore the fund) went up while Yahoo went down, he could have lost from both directions.

rhapsodic··on Trump campaign manager: Twitter’s liberal bias warrants action
Your points may all be valid, but I don't really care. I could debate them, but I won't. Why should I care about constitutional principles when my political enemies don't? I want to see Twitter and Facebook destroyed through regulation, to be quite blunt.
rhapsodic··on Trump campaign manager: Twitter’s liberal bias warrants action
Twitter and Facebook have become the de facto public square. The barriers to competition are essentially impenetrable without some sort of government involvement. They should not be allowed to regulate speech in the public square. Perhaps they should be broken up, or users should be allowed to sue them for unfair, politically biased censorship.
