restruct··on Why do the Japanese draw themselves as white?
But that doesn't mean that large eyes means white. Black people generally have characteristically large eyes too.
restruct··on Why So Few? Women in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics
Please read the study, instead of making up rationalizations to avoid dealing with issues of stereotypes, gender bias, and the climate of science and engineering departments in colleges and universities. http://www.aauw.org/research/upload/whysofew.pdf
restruct··on The case against teaching math
I agree with you except for the last paragraph about early sex education. If you wait until people are already having sex, it's too late.
restruct··on Richard Feynman on getting laid: "You Just Ask Them?"
Are you suggesting that it is all right for a charming man to be sexist, but not an uncharming man?
restruct··on Richard Feynman on getting laid: "You Just Ask Them?"
No, the point is that sexism is still sexism, even when sexism was (more) socially acceptable.
restruct··on Richard Feynman on getting laid: "You Just Ask Them?"
How does that make Feynman look better?
restruct··on Ask HN: How do down votes work?
After I got downvoting power, I found that the downvotes I checked had no effect. Was it because I downvoted too many in a row?
restruct··on Male Facial Attractiveness and Female Receptivity
"If there any girls reading this or any of you who understand girls really well, let me ask straight out, why do girls lie about their true intentions/desires always?"

If you actually think women always lie, then why even bother asking us, since you think whatever reason we give will be a lie?

I mean... yes, as a woman, everything I say is a lie.

But if everything I say is a lie, then I am actually a man pretending to be a woman. But if I am a man, then what I say may be true, which means that I might actually be a woman.

Seriously, though, your comment is misogynistic.

restruct··on The elephants in the room at TED
Upon learning about the $6,000 cost to get in, I shall think of TED Talks as a tax on rich people to provide free, online quality content to the rest of the world.
restruct··on [dead]
These instructions are incorrect. Clicking "turn off buzz" will only remove the Buzz label from your Gmail account.

You need to either (1) delete your Google profile first; or (2) if you want to keep your Google profile, edit your profile to not display followers, then delete any buzzes you may have posted, then removed connected sites, and THEN click "turn off buzz".

restruct··on Google changes Buzz to be opt-in and adds easy delete button
No. It is unethical to risk user privacy and data just to benefit the company.
restruct··on Turning Hacker News into Spam
I find Hacker Newspaper uglier and less legible, because it's non-linear and harder to visually scan/skim through the items. However, as a non-linear format, it is inferior in design to newsmap: http://newsmap.jp/#/t/us/view/
restruct··on We did it
Perhaps fatherhood, not motherhood, is the issue. Fathers need to be going on paternity leave at the same rates as mothers.
restruct··on How to Write Clearly, Think Clearly, and Learn Easily
"Instead of doing what’s easy for you, do what’s easy for your reader."

It is easier for the author to convert the PowerPoint into a PDF, but what is easier for the reader is if the information was in HTML/web format. The author should package the information so that it enters our heads as easily as possible.

This is why user-centered interfaces are better than programmer-centered interfaces. The point is to make it easier for the user, not easier for the programmer.

restruct··on Saving science from "Unscientific America"
One way the general public is kept scientifically illiterate is from locking up scientific journal articles behind subscription walls.

When peer-reviewed science articles are on lock down, and pseudoscience webpages can freely proliferate on the Internet, pseudoscience wins.

restruct··on Antioxidants and Cancer: Have we got it Backwards?
True, but a more accurate description of what you meant is "if you believe in evolution by natural selection, you'd have to put it the other way around."
restruct··on Antioxidants and Cancer: Have we got it Backwards?
> I doubt many fruits are NOT meant to be eaten by animals.

But plants did not evolve fruits to make animals healthier. Plants evolved fruits so that animals can spread the seeds.

restruct··on Early Risers Crash Faster Than People Who Stay Up Late
A sample size of 31 is not necessarily invalid. See http://www.isixsigma.com/library/content/c000709a.asp#small
restruct··on The Web will dismember universities, just like newspapers
How can exams be conducted online, if we want to prevent cheating?
restruct··on Security Threat: WordPress Under Attack
Ironically, TechCrunch itself appears to be running WordPress 2.7.1 instead of the latest 2.8.
restruct··on Spreadsheet of every TED talk as of 9/2/2009
TED Talks should have ratings too, and we should be able to sort by rating.
restruct··on Men lose their minds speaking to pretty women
Unless they fake the data, researchers do not have control over the results.

Yet I hope the article is not being upvoted as startup advice: "Don't hire beautiful women."

Perhaps heterosexual men can also train themselves to think of beautiful women as people first instead of as sex objects primarily.

restruct··on Google user comment in 2000
Try: +clojure
restruct··on Ask HN: What language do you think in?
First I think visually about object classes and data structures, and how they relate to one another. Then I think in pseudo-code.
restruct··on The programmer's wife
Then shouldn't it be "A programmer's wife"?
restruct··on The programmer's wife
This should be titled "The programmer's spouse" instead of the programmer's wife. This makes it seem like being female is the cause of having a non-technical perspective.

He says "She knows about as much as you’d expect an optometrist wife of a programmer to know about computers", but are we supposed to expect something different from an optometrist husband of a programmer?

There should be more links about programming and science at Hacker News, not some heterosexual male programmer's anecdotes about his wife, with a title which suggests that there is a pattern among the behaviour of wives of programmers.

restruct··on Gmail may hand over IP addresses of journalists
But don't choose Gmail as your webmail provider?
