reportgunner··on Ask HN: Anyone pursuing this AI image idea (images to list of insured losses)?
Sounds not realistic. Imagine you have this list, how do you know it's complete? What if it's not complete and you think it's complete and you only find out something was missing when it was too late?

edit: You might as well work on software that keeps a list of everything you ever owned so you can just whip it out once your house burns down.

reportgunner··on Initiative from Google, OpenAI, Discord, others could transform trust and safety
What does trust and safety mean in this context ? Who is trusting who; and who/what is safe ?
reportgunner··on Balcony solar is taking off
Won't denser areas have less sunlight ?
reportgunner··on Balcony solar is taking off
Well if you have just one solar panel you can double all installed solar in a matter of minutes and 5x it in matter of an hour.
reportgunner··on Balcony solar is taking off
Is it because of wind ?
reportgunner··on Indigenous engineers are using AI to preserve their culture
I don't understand, how can they use AI to preserve their culture when AI was never a part of it ?
reportgunner··on Ask HN: What intelligent forums exist outside of HN?
I remember twitter being like this in 2020 when I stopped using it.
reportgunner··on Modern-Day Oracles or Bullshit Machines? How to thrive in a ChatGPT world
Wait, the people who click phishing links now think AI output is facts ? Imagine my shock.
reportgunner··on Musk-led group makes $97B bid for control of OpenAI
xAI is not making any money

This is normal at this point. Netflix also wasnt making any money when it was new, same with Uber and more. You can't run in the race to the bottom if you're climbing to the top.

reportgunner··on Jeep Introduces Pop-Up Ads That Appear Every Time You Stop
Will be cool if this car still works in 20 years and the ads just show an error because the server no longer exists.
reportgunner··on How about trailing commas in SQL?
I feel like if you actually start writing the amount of queries where this would be useful you stop caring about tiny details like that.
reportgunner··on Undergraduate shows that searches within hash tables can be much faster
Yeah usually when article starts by explaining what is known or tells you a story they do it to fluff up the text and bait you into reading because the actual content you want is not there.
reportgunner··on Undergraduate shows that searches within hash tables can be much faster
Sad that the article doesn't say what his approach actually is.
reportgunner··on Ping Rate Clock
That's a dial not a clock.
reportgunner··on Netflix is removing nearly all of its interactive titles
You don't even need to buy a subscription to watch netflix shows.
reportgunner··on Λ-2D: An Exploration of Drawing as Programming Language
Looks unreadable and reminds me of Factorio.
reportgunner··on The guy who gave a negative review to Battlezone 98 Redux after playing 8k hours
You really believe there will be improvements after four years ?
reportgunner··on The guy who gave a negative review to Battlezone 98 Redux after playing 8k hours
It's 8 hours a day for 3 years.
reportgunner··on The guy who gave a negative review to Battlezone 98 Redux after playing 8k hours
You assume people gain no skills from playing video games which is false.
reportgunner··on The guy who gave a negative review to Battlezone 98 Redux after playing 8k hours
Sorry, but negative reviews are the only reviews I read on Steam. You can already see the hours spent at the time of review and as of today so it's trivial to take that into consideration or not.
reportgunner··on Even Microsoft Notepad is getting AI text editing now
They don't make the paints and notepads like they used to.
reportgunner··on Launch HN: Codebuff (YC F24) – CLI tool that writes code for you
Watching the demo it seems like it would be more effective to learn the skills you need rather than using this for a decade.

It takes 5+ seconds just to change one field to dark mode, I don't even want to imaigne a situation where I have two fields and I want to explain that I need to change this field and not that field.

I'm not sure who is the target audience for this, people who want to be programmers without learning programming ?

reportgunner··on ChatGPT now on chat.com
Haha can't wait until new people think that everything that has a chat also has AI because chat.com is AI
reportgunner··on Five minutes of exercise a day could lower blood pressure
A "set" probably refers to 5 or more repetitions per set, so 3 sets are 3*5+ repetitions of squats. A "full" squat probably means to go so low that your butt goes below your knees.
reportgunner··on Humans Are Evolving Right Before Our Eyes on the Tibetan Plateau
I knew enough when the article was explaining what a hemoglobin is.
reportgunner··on Notes on Anthropic's Computer Use Ability
Software posing as Claude that is actually a malware tricking an unsuspecting non-terminal user into executing it is what I was thinking about.
reportgunner··on Notes on Anthropic's Computer Use Ability
Not just benefits, costs but also the risks are to be considered here I think.
reportgunner··on Never Missing the Train Again
I feel like the OP is overcomplicating the solution, I don't own a car and all commuting is basically either:

- bus/train/tram crosses my stop 5 times a day - its trivial to learn the 5 times

- bus/train/tram crosses my stop more than 5 times a day - i just show up at the stop and wait

Perhaps my point of view is like this because I'm in Europe, I can't tell really.

reportgunner··on Show HN: I made a Bluesky video downloader that can download videos from Bluesky
How would you copy a video from one folder into another without using the clipboard ?

How would you copy a video clip from one video editing project into another without using the clipboard ?

reportgunner··on Show HN: I made a Bluesky video downloader that can download videos from Bluesky
Jack Dorsey left twitter and made bluesky
