rejectfinite··on America’s Truckers, Cargo Pilots and Package Carriers Are Fed Up
USA really is a hellscape. The more I learn about the world, the happier I am, I'm not born there but in Europe.
rejectfinite··on Archive.today: on the trail of mysterious guerrilla archivists of the Internet
No, it is due to the way you phrased the question.

It reads to me same as xereeto said. That's why I asked. Maybe think about that? Do you have some difficulty in interactions?

Why is that bad? From searching, she is behind sci-hub?

Incredible service to humanity.

rejectfinite··on “Absurd”: Google, Amazon rebuked over unsupported Chromebooks still for sale
A used real Thinkpad T480 that runs full Windows/Linux is like 2-300$ and much better to use, eg

rejectfinite··on The Windows desktop is dying
>My last 3-5 jobs everyone but maybe a couple of people in sales had Macbooks..

And where I work it's all Thinkpads or Dells :)

Office 365 suite + Windows 11 + Defender EDR/S1/Crowdstrike + Intune or other MDM/RMM like Ninja/PDQ is an excellent stack for productivity, management, and security.

For Mac you need the hardware first, then a google workspace or 365 license, then jamf to manage the fleet + S1/Crowdstrike.

But yes for Desktop use it really shines. PC Gaming too is in a better place than ever. Like 500k is on Steam playing BG3 right now.

rejectfinite··on The Windows desktop is dying
OneDrive works great now
rejectfinite··on The Windows desktop is dying
Sounds like a bad Citrix or RDP implementation.

Yes, it is never as good as native, but it's not that bad if done properly.

Citrix/RDP farm should NEVER be used for cost savings. It is for data control. But bean counters think it saves costs... and user experience suffer.

rejectfinite··on The Windows desktop is dying
And I have a 2014 desktop PC and did a full reinstall when Windows 10 released in 2015. There have been issues but nothing a windows & driver update + reboot coulnt solve.

>Now my laptop is acting really slow even though no process is hogging CPU or ram

Have you rebooted?

Is it thermal throttling?

rejectfinite··on Brave Search launches own image and video search
Very nice! I just switched to Brave Search from DDG on Brave and I kind of like it.

Now... I would just like to see the full https url on searches.

I already love the look, Brave summarizer AI and general results!

rejectfinite··on A list of recent hostile moves by Google's Chrome team
>Why is brave shilled so much?

It is the only good Chromium based browser. It is also open source unlike Vivaldi and Opera/Edge etc.

All the crypto shit can be turned off, annoying yes, but perfectly doable in the standard options menu.

rejectfinite··on Google AMP – The Newest of Evasive Phishing Tactic

rejectfinite··on Google’s Plan to DRM the Web Goes Against Everything Google Once Stood For
Proton and Bitlocker and that MS SHIT always creeped me out. I work in IT so we have to use it but on an ideological level "Trusted computing" is weird. Feels like they want a console future where it is locked down af
rejectfinite··on Google’s Plan to DRM the Web Goes Against Everything Google Once Stood For
Still better then running straight Google Chrome.

Yes there is Firefox

But Brave still faster + own search engine

rejectfinite··on Does Cloudflare’s 1.1.1.1 DNS Block Archive.is? (2019)
I switched to https://controld.com/free-dns

Can also do DNS adblock! :)

rejectfinite··on x86 is dead, long live x86
>I don't even mind Windows but holy crap is that thing an absolute chore to use.

What are your issues? I have a T490 that is a few years old and its great for my use. But I keep it docked in to a monitor and external mouse and keyboard 90% of the time.

rejectfinite··on Why doctors hate their computers (2018)
From what I know of enterprise software it's basically an MSSQL or MySQL box having all the data in the end and IT has to back up it, so they have db admin lmao

Yes very secure.

rejectfinite··on Snowflake
My 2c on your scenarios.

>Try telling that norwegian poker player who is unable to wire legal poker earnings from a tournament abroad to his bank home.

Probably blocked due to terror laws. If you can't Western Union money, there is a REALLY good reason.

Wait until you hear about how we are a cashless society and our bank app for money transfer. That you need mobile ID and bank account to use :) Max tracking. But its very handy.

>Or to any of the people who made money on crypto who they want to use as security for an appartment loan.

Good, I hate crypto shit and I want it to go away. It is all a scam. Get a real job and invest in a real bank. Crypto is all tax fraud scam shit.

>Or to someone trying to wire gains from legal online casinos abroad.

Good, I hate gambling and online casinos. If you have to gamble, do it in my country so the taxes benefit.

>Or to someone trying to access a web site that the norwegian authorities do not like who are DNS blocked (yes, easy to circumvent for tech people).

Yes THIS I agree with. I think ISP DNS blocks piratebay etc here now. Or some ISPs do. It's shit, but I already use a 3rd party DNS provider on my PC and phones.

Your point btw? I am running the Snowflake when my browser is open.

rejectfinite··on Why doctors hate their computers (2018)
I never understood what is so special about hospital pacient software. Why cant they do this with the Microsoft 365 suite with Sharepoint for files, Teams for chat, files etc and Word to write notes in?

Or Google Workspace for that matter.

Aren't they just writing notes and ordering meds?

Why is it this mess that is Epic and Oracle Cerner?

*Sure being in the downvotes

rejectfinite··on Why doctors hate their computers (2018)
The article is about Epic, a terrible medical journal software.

What you say differs between IT environments and clients. We usually just deploy EDR/MDR like S1 or Defender (Defender that comes with Windows) and deploy settings, so you cannot have a crazy long uptime and force Windows updates, yes you need those.

According to some standard body like NIST, you are now supposed to have a longer password or passphrase that never expires.

rejectfinite··on Snowflake
I have it installed and like seeing the number go up. NUMBER BIGGER = DOPAMINE!!

I'm lucky to be born in Scandinavia, so there is really 0 internet censor, for now.

How is this a fault of Slack?

Now, Teams would have handled this better.

One team = make a team = make channels in the team

rejectfinite··on Twist: Slack alternative from the makers of Todoist
That's why you get a wiki or something like Confluence, Sharepoint, Google Docs pages etc etc and write shit down :)

I heard about it from HN also!
