red_rech··on S&P affirms 'AA+' credit rating for US, cites impact of tariff revenue

As someone not very educated in economics and the institutions around global nation-state economics specifically, what does this mean? It’s more expensive for the state to borrow? From where?

Are there real consequences of this for powerful people, or will they just be passed solely to middle class and below somehow.

I had a mildly embarrassing shower fall that ended in a deep wound. I tried to sleep it off not realizing how bad it was and ended up having to get surgery. Because of the location of the injury, there was a big risk of infection.

I was alone, but luckily I was only 19 and healthy at the time. But I came away with a new understanding of the dangers of these things and whys there’s so much advertising to older people it. I can imagine a frail individual not surviving something like that if alone.

Oh man, it’s often worse than you think. So many games now have a lot of “complexity” the complexity is all really surface level leaving you desiring.

Yeah but you’re not going to convince the shit parents of these shit children to change. If you think otherwise, you haven’t met enough.
red_rech··on Leading computer science professor says 'everybody' is struggling to get jobs
I’m still desperately looking for an out from this industry.

The layoff and market conditions helped me realized just how useless my career has been.

I knew I never wanted to work professionally in software, but it was the only thing accessible that pays well.

Even now it’s the only thing keeping me afloat, so I don’t see any way out but slow painful [career] death.

red_rech··on Larry Ellison – 'citizens will be on their best behavior' amid nonstop recording
> This relies on, normatively, shame, and legally, a Stasi-esque police state.

You can get the populace to swallow surveillance if you give them an enemy. See: PATRIOT act. Anyone wanna take bets on what this one will be called.

He doesn’t need to provide that, he’s a lord.

I’m guilty. My legs are torn up by mosquitos even as I type. It’s just so fucking hot and humid in the summers.

I’d wager it was created by scientists/physicists too and not “just” developers.

> Most programmers of the time seemed far more interested in being architecture astronauts than making something useful.

Of course they were, being an architect astronaut got you hired.

You have to get passed the resume filters and the architecture interview to even have the chance to work on the internal enterprises tool no one uses anyway. People just respond to what will grow their career.

red_rech··on US cities pay too much for buses
Yes! we can even distribute political and military power to selected individuals who can rule over small portions maintaining security and collecting taxes.

After all, it was divine right (Darwinian evolution, AI schizobabble, etc) that made them men of might.

red_rech··on US cities pay too much for buses
> 996 style slave labor production, a lack of environmental protection laws and, most notably, a lot of state/regional subsidies artificially dumping prices below sustainability not just against American companies but against other Chinese companies.

Silicon Valley CEOs saw this and thought it should be their playbook. So hell, maybe made in America will eventually get cheaper as this innovative economic and social system sees adoption by brave pioneers.

red_rech··on Software CEO to Catholic panel: AI is more mass stupidity than mass unemployment
> What are companies going to pay these now-dumber people to do, once they've automated away the jobs the smarter versions of these people did?

Kill each other, in some ways.

> You don't see rent-a-cops going off and killing people.

Haha, I just saw a video the other day of a couple of “bounty hunters” (bailbondsmen) pulling up with tactical gear and rifles and kidnapping some kid because he had the same name/ethnicity.

Naturally (and thankfully) these idiots are being charged, but one of the kidnappers sat in an interview whining about how his job was too hard because he lacked qualified immunity.

red_rech··on Demand for human radiologists is at an all-time high
Atlanta seems to be a bit contradictory to some of your other thoughts.

The city itself is relatively small. A vast majority of area population lives distributed across the MSA, and it can create hellish traffic. I remember growing up thinking 1+ hour commutes were just a fact of life for everyone commuting from the suburbs.

Not sure what car ownership looks like, and I haven’t been in years, but I’d imagine it’s still much more than just 20%
