I have never disappointed by open source projects until this recent weeks. The acts of some OSS maintainers that blatantly use the tools they maintained as a platform to show their support for one side has disappointed me. Especially because they have never took side nor notice other bloody conflict before this. I won't be as disappointed if they always use their tools to promote peace and stand with whichever nation being invaded and oppressed. But no, they only care when a western/western-aligned country being invaded. This just shows their hiprocricy and racism.
Yes, motocycle is evidently more dangerous than car. But, some people don't have a choice. In some country, car is still a luxury. For example, in my country, a used car can cost at least 3 times a brand new motocycle.
I think Windows being a product of a big company also played a role. It mainly came pre-installed on most device. Because Microsoft pushes for it, and user, especially the non-technical one, won't bother to install something else on their machine. So, for most computer user, there is just no other choice.
I have experienced this. Thinkpad E480, sold with pre-installed windows 10. At some point got a Windows update, and suddenly it frequently goes to BSOD, especially after sleep mode.
You might want to try WinApps or something similar to run your MS Office in Linux. I haven't try it myself, but it seems a nice way to run Windows apps in Linux.
Have you tried Arch or Arch-based distribution? I am using Manjaro, and I feel that 'pamac' is a good package manager in terms of keeping up with package update. Arch and its derivatives mainly use 2 repositories, Arch Official Repository and Arch User Repository (AUR). Sometimes, a distribution also has its own repository. AUR is what blown me away a a former Ubuntu user. Because, it often has the package I want to install, even if has no official build for Arch.
There is AdonisJS, a JS framework inspired by Laravel. I don't know if it has 1:1 feature comparison with Laravel, but for someone who uses Laravel daily like me, it seems nice.
I wonder if a PC clone and a copy of Borland Turbo C is a good present for a 7 year old kid (:D), just kidding. Nevertheless, you have good support from your dad there.
I am interested on how did you learn programming and even create a functional program when you were that young. I was 14 years old when I write my first "hello world" program, and after that, for the next 5 years I basically just fiddling with Visual Basic 6 UI builder and programming. Most of my script come from books or the internet, and I don't understand the complicated stuff at that time, especially where the program interacted with Windows API. Maybe the lack of teacher and access to materials also has a role for my lack of understanding back then. So, I am interested on how did you learn programming on such a young age?
I really like the concept of this website, a clutter free website that running on a solar-powered server. The UI also makes me enjoy browsing and reading page after page on this website. I don't even need Firefox's reader view, something I almost certainly use whenever I read a blog/news site. Granted, that something must be sacrificed by selecting a solar-powered server, like uptime and they seem to be deliberately not using a full colored images, maybe to save the processing power of their server. But, IMO, it doesn't diminish the enjoyment of reading the website. Good job !!
Mainly because I want to see if :
- I can install something from Aurora Store
- The app can run
- The app can connect to the internet without changing any config
- The app can operate normally
It is just a coincidence that the first apps I installed was Telegram.
AFAIK, Waydroid doesn't add ARM virtualization, and because I installed it on a X86_64 computer, I doubt something installed from a store (which mainly aimed for ARM device) can even run properly.
I have tried Waydroid in Manjaro Linux, and to my surprise, it runs smoothly. I even able to install Aurora Store and install Telegram from there, which also run perfectly. RAM usage was minimal, maybe because of it is running on a container.
The only thing I haven't figured out is keyboard input from my physical keyboard directly to the android.
Stumbling upon this site while browsing for KDE Plasma theme. Searching with 'open desktop' or 'opendesktop' terms on HN does not seems like someone has posted them in the past, so I decided to post it. Looking at their services, there is an opportunity to create a mobile-desktop ecosystem out of them like Google services.
Well, they could also titled it "The Longest-Running Kids Animated Series In US". Naming it the longest animated series in history implied that there is no other animated series produced all around the world, which run longer than it.
I have been a long time user of Firefox, but as a web developer I use Chromium occasionally to test a web application I develop. I would like to know, what kind of feature that Chrome/Chromium dev tools offer that Firefox doesn't?
I have been working professionally for 3+ years in a single company. I've been lucky to have got this job without a test nor interview ( I was an intern there, and they offered me the job before my intern period was up). Recently, I feel bored there and tried to apply to another company. Currently, I am in the last stage of the test and it seems I will be able to pass it. But, I feel nervous to actually change my job, because this will be my first time changing workplace, and I don't know if I will actually be accepted there (there is a probation period of 3 months).
Reading this thread makes me re-realize that changing jobs was not an unusual thing. Thank you for sharing this.
