rchard2scout··on Map showing birthplaces of "notable people" around the world
That's because both Sean Connery and Maxwell have their birthplace as just "Edinburgh", and Connery's notability rank is 261, while Maxwell's is 683. So Connery is shown instead of Maxwell.
rchard2scout··on Mission to reach and operate at the focal region of the solar gravitational lens
I'm not sure if it's possible to easily share the correct settings in an URL, but:

In the Layers menu, set it to Satellite, Globe view, and turn off Labels. Then, zoom until the earth is ca. 1275 pixels wide

That's probably this story: https://www.reddit.com/r/talesfromtechsupport/comments/3v52p...

It wasn't QWERTY vs QWERTZ, someone had swapped out two keys as a joke. But the story might have evolved over the years.

rchard2scout··on Ask HN: What Linux web browser do you use and why?
Chromium, because I'm used to Google Chrome and I like Google to keep track of everything for me. I've switched between Chrome and Chromium a few times, but I've found that Chromium works just a bit better on my system (Ubuntu 17.04).
