rbtprograms··on Beam has raised $9.5M to reinvent the browser
the tech industry and its insistence upon framing everything around "improving lives" is extremely grating. this guy feels unfulfilled and like he hasn't improved anyones life so he tries to make a browser?

i really wish people like this would just come out and say "yea i am successful and i am going to keep pushing because i think i can do better." is that really so bad?

rbtprograms··on Bitcoin: Magic Internet Money
Once you accept that everything is a simulation and nothing is real, the price of Bitcoin makes perfect sense.
rbtprograms··on Police say civil asset forfeiture reduces crime – new study shows they’re wrong
Civil Asset Forfeiture is one of the greatest constitutional crises of the modern era United States. It's existence is evidence that the federal government plans to continue furthering its encroachment on civil liberties and I truly hope that the people can find a way to get rid of it. 84 percent of Americans reportedly oppose it, and I often have a hard time understanding how the Supreme Court hasn't struck it down (outside of the obvious reason they don't, which is to continue to have stronger federal power).
rbtprograms··on Ask HN: Is there a website specialized in mathematics courses?
I'm in the same boat as you and I just started taking classes at my local community college/university. Options are affordable and lots of online offerings.
rbtprograms··on A Handwritten Math Parser in 100 lines of Python
I recently did this same project in Javascript and you're correct, shunting yard is perfect for this.
rbtprograms··on Uber backup driver indicted in 2018 self-driving crash that killed woman
I think fault, specifically when it comes to litigation, is something that will end up holding back self-driving cars (at least in the USA). If there is an accident or someone is injured, who ends up getting sued? How does insurance resolve these claims?

Please note that I am not saying I think someone needs to get sued. I just think that the concept of liability is deeply ingrained in the American legal and insurance systems, and I almost forsee a future where we cannot come to terms with who is liable in different situations and it coming to preventing the adoption of and progression of self-driving vehicles.

rbtprograms··on Repl.it Database
Looks pretty neat! I wonder if multiple repl's can hook up to a singular database, this post makes it sound like it's a 1:1 relationship. Either way Repl stays adding great features.
rbtprograms··on So you want to be a compiler wizard (2016)
I would love to be this clever
rbtprograms··on So you want to be a compiler wizard (2016)
I can second the 'make a calculator' as a place to get started with this, that's a solid project to get the basics of flexing -> parsing -> evaluation. Helped me learn a ton when I first wanted to approach this problem.

On a side note, I pretty annoyed by the prevelance of 'So you want to be a <insert something here>' titled articles. It's so common around now and just doesn't seem to express good intent about what is actually going to be in an article at this point.

rbtprograms··on Firefox 71
Firefox just keeps looking better and better. Lots of features added and QoL increases. I have switched over to using it for general browsing, but continue to use chrome for development. That might be changing real soon!
rbtprograms··on New technology turns everyday trash into plastic treasure
Seems like promising technology that I will be following, but I will remain cautious with my expectations. It seems like every week or so a new, revolutionary technology pops up and completely loses steam.
rbtprograms··on My own private Iceland
I visited a couple of months ago, and if you're an English speaker then there is little in the way of a language barrier. I don't think I met a single Icelandic person who didn't speak English while I was there.
rbtprograms··on Declined Proposal: A built-in Go error check function, “try”
Good on the Go Team listening to the community, I definitely saw more people against this feature than for it.

I hope they take another stab at improving error handling. I like Go a lot and do think error handling is one place it could use improvements.
