Yeah they’ve invented newer more expensive types of insulin that better control blood sugar, and they are continuing to invent newer types that are even better. Which I think is great and allowing there to be a financial incentive to create new and better insulins.

Why not design a system that isn’t susceptible to gaming and doesn’t rely on all people acting with integrity and instead embraces that people will act in their own best interest even if it results in long term worse outcomes overall?
Things like universal health care and universal basic income provide a flat benefit to all, so gaming the system doesn’t give an unfair advantage to some.

I could spend hours learning to do this, and then buying the tools and materials to actually do the maintenance, plus the few hours of effort of actually doing it. Walmart has several mowers listed under $200, I can see why someone would find it not worth the time/effort/money to maintain a mower and just buy a new one. Hopefully, they are setting it out on the curb with a sign that says free for someone that does find that tradeoff worth it.
Edit: it’s not one side, it’s a small minority of loud mouthed assholes.
Charging infrastructure sees significantly more duty cycles than an individual car so it makes sense to move the wear part to the vehicle.
