Yeah, and life was tough back then. My services have gotten significantly easier to manage since moving away from stateful services.
Even at a new company I don’t think I’d ever want to go back to stateful sessions. I’m
not close to Google or Amazon scale, and managing state was significantly harder than dealing with JWTs.
It’s not hard to stand up, managing state across sessions and versions of your app is hard. For example a site I use frequently the Morgan Stanley portal is stateful and you can only be logged in from a single device/tab at once.
Most websites don’t need it, and it makes things harder to manage when rolling out new versions of your services. Life got significantly easier once I moved away from stateful services.
Oh man, he goes straight to stateful services as an alternative to JWTs. What an absolute nightmare, if JWTs are too hard stateful services are certainly more difficult.
I’m sorry, but would you mind clarifying that last statement? Is Long Island a hotbed of cancer? Did you move to Long Island to work with cancer patients?
If you or someone you know was in the science fair, or you were involved with it somehow. Maybe if you users just really invested in science fairs, those are all reasons to be angry. But if you are like most, this has no impact whatsoever on you or your life. At most this should provoke a shrug, a head shake, and a “that’s not right, I hope they do something.” From the vast majority of people.
The point I made at the beginning of this thread is that it’s a long term high cost and a potential dead end, that really didn’t save you much time. If you are in early stage and just need to move fast and find your product fit it could make sense. But again the problem it solves isn’t hard, and quickly makes things harder than they need to be.
Yet another solution that makes easy things easier, while making just about everything else significantly harder if not impossible. RBAC, monitoring, telemetry, merging data from multiple sources, migrating between data stores, database structure optimizations, caching... These are just of the top of my head of issues that this is likely to make harder, all to prevent writing some of the most simple code you can write.
Just do it in space and avoid the whole atmosphere and ground based light pollution. Space is cheaper than ever now, this is a problem for amateur astronomers, and hobbyists shouldn’t hold back progress.
It’s been well over a decade since I’ve listened to AM radio, and I couldn’t tell you a single FM station and I’ve lived in this city for 12 years. AM radio is literally not even on my radar as a way to get emergency information. I don’t even think we have access to an AM radio. I’m an elder millennial, over half the country is younger than me.
This legislation is absolutely out of touch with reality, and will do nothing but allow the old guard to slow down innovation and force the past on people who have no interest in it and will receive no value from.
It’s always been the network, and it always will be. I went to a public university, all my friends and roommates are doing well, but none of them have started a company worth more than a million or so. Some are director level at big tech companies, but none are exec level.
There are numerous compounding pharmacies selling generic ozempic (Semaglutide)
There is competition, I see ads on Facebook and Instagram for it all the time, there are clinics all over where I live advertising Semaglutide treatment for weight loss.
My wife has found a local “Buy Nothing” Facebook group that she posts all sorts of stuff like that on. Most of the time someone is happy to jump in and take things like that off our hands.
The back button is probably the biggest thing keeping me from an android. Every time I’m handed an android to look at something that stupid button gets triggered.
If you don’t have a million your probably have most of your wealth in your home (typically protected by homestead exemptions) or retirement accounts (IRAs up to 1 million and 401k have no limit). Then a simple cheap umbrella policy could fill any gaps.
Insurance companies payout, unlike people with assets structured in a way that protects them. Thus insurance companies are heavily incentivized to reduce the likelihood of having to pay out claims. They are experts at estimating risk and managing risk.
Honestly I think it's cool that Amszaon took that approach. Do things that don't scale to better understand the value/market fit. Then you can work on the hard problem of building the complicated tech to enable it at scale. So often companies jump straight to the hard tech issues without even trying to learn from the real world.
The lack of signals isn’t remotely the largest issue with JS, and adding them has minimal impact for most users of JavaScript. The biggest issue is the lack of a standard library, resulting in npm hell in most projects.
