rblatz··on It is humiliating to have to do LeetCode grinding for
How often were you interviewing that LeetCode interviews made you switch careers?
rblatz··on Starlink Direct to Cell
This is such an unhinged take, what if a super villain decided to build missiles to attack satellites? You understand that’s something nation states struggle with, that billionaire status doesn’t even guarantee success on.

Some bitcoin bro with a net worth in the millions is not building orbit reaching guided missiles in their garage. And if they were the satellites would be the least of our concerns.

rblatz··on Starlink Direct to Cell
No, that’s just satellite backhaul for a cell tower. That’s not hard, but also typically if you can get power to a base station you can run fiber along the same poles the power runs on.

This is direct from handset to satellite, it’s clearly explained in the link.

rblatz··on Starlink Direct to Cell
> The baseband on handheld devices do not have that much power to transmit and receive from Starlink directly;

That is exactly what this is about, direct from standard handsets to starlink satellites.

Where are you going that has better moderation and standards?
rblatz··on US probes Tesla's Full Self-Driving software after fatal crash
I have to disengage FSD multiple times a day and I’m only driving 16 miles round trip. And routinely have to stop it from doing dumb things like stopping at green traffic lights, attempting to do a u turn from the wrong turn lane, or switching to the wrong lane right before a turn.

I think they’re just focused on the work. Amazon is set to release a version of Alexa powered by Claude soon, when that is released I expect to hear a lot more about them.

It's hard to exercise when you are overweight. It puts more strain on your joints, makes injury more likely, and it's all around harder.

Maybe there is a path to using these drugs in a manner to get people healthier so they can exercise more, establish good habits and taper down.

rblatz··on Google must open Android for third-party stores, rules Epic judge
What would I take with me? My photos and email will move just fine. The last app I bought was a while ago, and it was an app to block Google AMP. I’m honestly not sure I use any other paid apps.
rblatz··on Congress fights to keep AM radio in cars
We just had a news story where an active AM station had its tower stolen and no one noticed until the landscapers reported it was gone.

And what bubble did I reveal, because it could be that I’m able to afford cars that cost ~$30k, like used Teslas or a new Toyota Camry, it could be that I like technology (but that’s mostly a given here), did you mean I’m an early adopter? Stop discounting me and my opinion baselessly by placing me in a bubble you won’t even define. How am I to even discuss with you when you use weasel wording.

rblatz··on Congress fights to keep AM radio in cars
Why do you keep jumping from AM to digital radio? What does that even mean, are you talking about XM? You do know FM exists and is analog, right?
rblatz··on Congress fights to keep AM radio in cars
12 years ago I wasn’t nearly as successful, but I did have Bluetooth in my car. Even in my old Hyundai and my wife’s Honda we never used the tuners.
rblatz··on Congress fights to keep AM radio in cars
I’m in my 40s and have no way to receive AM broadcasts. My wife and I both have Teslas, and we don’t have any radio tuners in the house. I wouldn’t even notic if the Tesla didn’t have FM either, I’ve lived in my current city for 12 years and couldn’t tell you a single radio station in the city.

AM is dead, and FM is nearly there as well.

rblatz··on Legalizing sports gambling was a mistake
That may be true for the UK, but in America it’s very different. Most casinos are big fancy places, the local casino by me on the Indian reservation has world famous DJ’s playing pool parties, an amazing restaurant, and valet parking with supercars out front every time I have been.

Every football game has an announcer giving his lock of the week pick for DraftKings. Every stadium has a brand new fancy looking sports book attached or next door. Hell they built a draft kings attached to the local PGA course.

Most people do it all via an app, no need to even leave your couch. People openly share their bets with friends. I don’t even do sports betting, but it’s basically all over and constantly in my face.

rblatz··on How to avoid a BSOD on your 2B dollar spacecraft
I suspect that Boeing has a lot of momentum and the risk/reward for pushing an initiative like that doesn’t make sense in that org.
rblatz··on Halide rejected from App Store because it doesn't explain why it takes photos
I use it for lots of things that aren’t photography, scanning QR codes, AR uses like seeing how a piece of furniture will look in my house, identifying stars.
rblatz··on The war on remote work has nothing to do with productivity
I’ve long suspected it’s a PR campaign/propaganda and talking points aimed directly at the c suite class. A lot of people with a lot of money stand to lose a lot. Banks, investors, retirement funds…

Start circulating studies showing people working multiple remote jobs at once, steer thinking around company culture, normalize it through repetition, send out talking points. Eventually dominos will start failing.

rblatz··on CrowdStrike ex-employees: 'Quality control was not part of our process'
Sorry, that’s correct it was Debian, but Debian did apply a RHEL specific patch to their kernel. That’s the relationship to red hat.
rblatz··on CrowdStrike ex-employees: 'Quality control was not part of our process'
The blame for the Linux situation isn’t as clear cut as you make it out to be. Red hat rolled out a breaking change to BPF which was likely a regression. That wasn’t caused directly by a crowdstrike update.

rblatz··on Marijuana Is Too Strong Now
You mentioned Bacardi 151, which is where my head went. It sounds like the weed industry is like if the alcohol industry only made versions of 151, and then people are out here saying hey wish I could have a few light beers with my friends. Yeah you could alll just do a single shot and get the same amount of alcohol as a couple light beers but it’s not the same.
rblatz··on Did your car witness a crime? Bay Area police may be coming for your Tesla
Seems like you’re grasping at straws to find weird edge cases that don’t at all preclude a mostly self driven future. I don’t think these cars will be made without steering wheels, or a mechanism to control the vehicle directly.

But I bet they get a report of how often you manually drive and if you cross a specified threshold your rate increases.

Edit: Also why would you need to park on grass! Hop out of the car and it will park itself wherever in a nearby lot, or just drives around until you need it.

rblatz··on Did your car witness a crime? Bay Area police may be coming for your Tesla
And? Just a few years ago waymo had safety drivers. I really only intercede when I want to take a route different than the Tesla routes me on, or I want to be a bit more aggressive in highway traffic.

Seems like 10 years isn’t too out there for affordable self driving vehicles considering we have one working today at the high end of cost and another getting close at the lower end of cost.
