People who are stuck using Bedrock in-geo due to their company policy (me).

Daria is another example - being on MTV they used a lot of popular music from the time which clearly did not cost them much extra at the time of TV broadcast but was replaced with generic music for the DVD release.

Yep, I've seen this come up time and time again in the legal world and Microsoft 365 is so entrenched in the legal world that there is 0 chance of change in at least the next decade, and probably in the next 20 years.

Agree - I do video editing via Claude Code and it does the job just fine. A lot of my tasks involved frame accurate cutting and to do so it will make a composite image of several consecutive frames in a single image and analyse it that way.
ray_kay777··on Anthropic's best AI model struggles to attract users as cheaper tools thrive
With access to good databases and tool use, hallucinations are basically a thing of the past (and very easy to verify). The hallucination issue typically comes from people using free ChatGPT or similar - tech usage and literacy is often poor and there's a lack of understanding of the risks of using something without proper legal database tools. Most lawyers would not have the faintest idea of what tool use in the context of an LLM even means. It's still seen as a magic box rather than a tool for real work.

Will it drive down fees significantly? Doubt it, there's not enough pressure on them, and the industry is resistant to change. Firms don't want to make a big deal about using it because clients will then ask why they're not getting a discount.

Will it empower younger lawyers? Not as much as I'd like. I'm very fortunate to have an employer that lets me use Claude Code for my work (to a limited extent). I think for 99.9% of lawyers it's not an option available to them, through a mix of concerns around AI usage and concerned IT departments. There could be great benefits, but it would rely on having to break out of traditional private practice which would make it difficult to get enough work.

I think in the near term LLMs will have much the same impact on the legal industry as it has on the software industry.

While there's no linter for writing contracts, my experience (as a commercial lawyer) is that frontier LLMs are far better and error checking and far quicker at writing than the average senior lawyer. The main thing holding back further deployment (in my jurisdiction) are concerns around data residency, privilege and how fundamentally it will break an industry that is so heavily reliant on time based billing.

I think we're even starting to reach that saturation point now for a lot of people. In my industry (law) plenty of people have tried CoPilot once or twice, or tried ChatGPT a year ago, and as a result have basically dismissed AI as being useless. The setup required to be able to get it to do end to end tasks to your liking is also substantially more work than most people are willing to put in.

Yep, doesn't work in Australia either.
ray_kay777··on Muse Code and Muse Spark 1.2
Yep - exactly my thoughts. No way am I trying this out without a billing limit - seems crazy given the pricing strategy to not have a top-up and pay as you go.

This makes it a very interesting alternative to Deepseek for personal work where I don't care about the training - judging by the AA benchmarks it seems like overall cost per task is similar to the new Deepseek Flash but with better benchmarks (and inbuilt vision capabilities).

Beat me to it - but I had the same thought. Most amateur and nearly all professional studio photographs of a bicycle will have it drive side out so I expect this plays some role in it.
ray_kay777··on Godot will no longer accept AI-authored code contributions
I've found that the instructions "be extremely concise" gets me much closer to output that's actually sensible/helpful rather than another wall of text.

I suspect the reply above is referring to charge out rates rather than wages.

In fairness, this tweet makes it seem very much like it's retribution from Hegseth:

ray_kay777··on A.I. note takers are making lawyers nervous
Australian lawyer here and fully agree - this issue has been mentioned a few times in some recent Family Court cases (where self-representation and thus AI usage is more prevalent) but there hasn't been any direct decisions on it as there has been in the US. I would like to think that the same line of thinking would prevail here (i.e. that just because it could theoretically be read by someone else doesn't necessarily result in a waiver of privilege).
