ravelantunes··on Why the Tech World Thinks the American Dream Is Dying
If AI automates most jobs and UBI becomes the primary source of income for most people, doesn't that imply the means of production eventually have to transfer to government control? Is there a different mechanism that makes this work without that transfer?
ravelantunes··on Ask HN: What are you working on? (January 2026)
I'm working on a native MacOS Postgres client: http://github.com/ravelantunes/Searchlight I've been slowly chipping at it over the last couple of years as I find time, and I like it enough to already use it as my primary client (although still buggy here and there).
ravelantunes··on The append-and-review note
I do it similarly, but I still start another note every week, as it “feels cleaner”. I find that the global search works pretty well on Apple Notes, and by splitting by week I get a sense of around when I might have taken that note, which is helpful sometimes.
ravelantunes··on How much do you think it costs to make a pair of Nike shoes in Asia?
The author’s point is that the lower cost of goods coming from Asia results in increased demand, which then generates more jobs in the post-manufacturing part of the chain.
ravelantunes··on Rodney Brooks on limitations of generative AI
This exists and is available for paid users. My company started experimenting with it recently and it can be fairly helpful for long threads: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/summarize-an-emai....
ravelantunes··on Ask HN: What is the best financial advice someone has ever given you?
Before you invest in something, determine how that thing creates value. If you can’t determine how it creates value, it is most likely a short-lived scheme. Risk aside, it has also become a principle of mine that I refuse to try to generate income or gains from anything that, at the end of the day, isn’t generating real value for society.
ravelantunes··on Why do people bother with open source?
Not arguing on whether free software is or not anti-capitalist, but want to point out that the act of monetizing goods and services isn't incompatible with anti-capitalism.
ravelantunes··on Ask HN: My company went bankrupt today and I have 2 options
I think this is a very valuable insight, especially in the consumer and small/medium size business. I have fallen into this trap before.

One area where I would say that full-time matters more is if your product's target is big enterprise customers. Those are a bit harder to sell bootstrapping/moonlighting.
