ratsmack··on Call GPT-3 from Terminal
I wonder how long the GPT-3 API will be open for general use. Once big money is involved, it's questionable whether it will remain available.
ratsmack··on Musk fired top engineer for explaining why his tweet views are down
And so MSN writes smear article based on a parody account.

ratsmack··on Low nutritional quality in vegetarian meat
Vegan avoids all animal products while vegetarians will eat milk products and sometimes fish. Since the vegan and vegetarian are often used interchangeably, I believe the article is really referring to the vegan lifestyle.
ratsmack··on When will Twitter collapse? (Elon Musk firings)
I think Elon is being more aggressive in pushing out changes. Many times companies get the "don't rock the boat" mentality for fear of breaking something, and feel that what they have is good enough.
ratsmack··on When will Twitter collapse? (Elon Musk firings)
I'm sure there are some heavy negotiations going on to get out of leases or renegotiate them.
ratsmack··on When will Twitter collapse? (Elon Musk firings)
It seemed that there was a lot of people here on HN that were rooting for Twitter's demise, but I personally don't understand the mentality where someone must lose for me to win. I read a lot of financial news and have noticed that Yahoo finance front page has been covered with articles predicting Twitter's failure, almost like they want it to fail.

Also, the number of articles about Elon's activity at Twitter will cause Tesla to collapse. I'm sure Elon has many teams of capable people at each company that does not require constant input from Elon. It's a bit unnerving to see the degree that media has taken this.

ratsmack··on Rant: Year of Linux on the desktop
Most people never mention the hardware issue in regards to installing a successful Linux desktop. The expectation that all hardware combinations will just work is a little bit optimistic. I've run Linux desktops ever since X11 was available, but I always research the hardware aspect prior to installing a distribution and have always had a good experience (not perfect, but good).
ratsmack··on Don't force users to register before they can buy (2015)
Also, why can't sites display your card number in groups of four digits just like they're shown on your card. This makes it much easier to verify your card number for people with poor eye sight. Some sites do, most don't.
ratsmack··on Securities trader charged in New York with front-running employer's trades
Front running is just normal business for Wall Street's big players.
ratsmack··on The United States of America vs. Samuel Bankman-Fried Indictment [pdf]
"On December 17, 2015, Shkreli was arrested by the FBI after a federal indictment in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York was filed, charging him with securities fraud. The charges were filed after an investigation into his tenure at MSMB Capital Management and Retrophin. U.S. Attorney Robert Capers said, "Shkreli essentially ran his company like a Ponzi scheme where he used each subsequent company to pay off defrauded investors from the prior company."
ratsmack··on FTX’s collapse was a crime, not an accident
He doesn't sound like the genius kid that the media had made him out to be. He sounds more like a pawn in some scheme where he was chosen to take the fall.
ratsmack··on “Elon Musk should pay taxes” now considered by Twitter TOS to be hate speech
I have been suspended twice and am currently waiting out a seven day suspension. I don't think my comments were any different from many other posts I see daily.

ratsmack··on “Elon Musk should pay taxes” now considered by Twitter TOS to be hate speech
If you go to Twitter and view the thread, the person in the screenshot is the person posting. It seems to be a Photoshop.
ratsmack··on FTX billionaire Sam Bankman-Fried funneled dark money to Republicans
Hopefully, they claw back all of the donations regardless of political affiliation.
ratsmack··on Why some tech CEOs are rooting for Musk
Many of these articles note that Musk has eliminated a lot of people, but they never mention that he is also hiring a lot of new people.
ratsmack··on Musk faces fines if Twitter’s gutted child safety team becomes overwhelmed
I see the entire article is based on information from ex Twitter employees and no effort was made to contact the current Twitter admin on what their position is.
ratsmack··on Beyond Meat is struggling, and the plant-based meat industry worries
I'm not vegan or vegetarian, but I like certain black bean and garden burgers. I don't eat them with a bun though, I cook them and then top with a little cheese.
ratsmack··on The economy is the biggest bubble in world history, says Robert Kiyosaki
I have more faith in the economy surviving for the long term rather than collapsing. It seems that there are many people that preach about a doomsday collapse, but they usually have an agenda for doing so. Take Peter David Schiff for example.
ratsmack··on Screw Black Friday
Black Friday is used to dump loss leaders, over runs and special order low function items that look like more expensive products. I have yet to ever buy anything offered on these sales.

Edit: There's plenty of info available regarding my statement. Here's a few links.

ratsmack··on WhatsApp data leak: 500M user records for sale
I wonder what percent of "hacks" are from insiders, or from inside information/credentials given to outsiders. With the huge number of people involved in these companies, there has to be some percentage of illicit leaking going on.
ratsmack··on The housing market is looking less and less appealing to consumers
When trillions of dollars of easy money is pushed into the economy, especially with the low interest rates, this was bound to happen.
ratsmack··on EU approves law to break 'glass ceiling' for women on company boards
I believe California made a similar law.

ratsmack··on Volkswagen says all brands have halted paid activities on Twitter
I can assure you, it's exactly like it was before, the rules of engagement weren't changed. The only thing I notice is that there is more activity now.
ratsmack··on Berkshire Hathaway Inc.
>flashy site

But sometimes there's so much flash that you can't even tell what's being sold. And then there is the immediate blatant pop-over that demands that you make an account before you even have a chance to see the product.

Who designs crap like that?

ratsmack··on I don't want to go back to social media
I also believe the current owner is more neutral than the previous, and has stated as much in his belief of free speech.
ratsmack··on I don't want to go back to social media
>I've not been on social media in .. ~8 years

Is Hacker News not social media?

ratsmack··on I don't want to go back to social media
>He is a fraud

Could you clarify and elaborate on that?

ratsmack··on I don't want to go back to social media
>Why did I leave Twitter? My biggest fear about the Twitter acquisition had quickly become an incontrovertible reality: the new right-wing ownership group of Twitter intended to exploit the service to promote political propaganda.

The above is laughable. If you believe giving everyone an equal voice is a bad thing, then you need to reevaluate your position in society.

ratsmack··on Twitter Staff Wipeout Under Musk Spurs Concern for Site’s Decay
It seems many of the big media outlets are hoping for Twitters demise.
