Just an old guy.

ratsmack··on How the conspiracy-fueled Epoch Times went mainstream and made millions
It's funny how the "established" media will attempt to beat down new arrivals to the arena in an attempt to protect their turf.
ratsmack··on Ask HN: Is it just me or has the Gmail spam filter stopped working?
For me it doesn't make any difference, because I disabled it a couple of years ago. I disabled it because it seemed to catch too many things that were obviously not spam and would and would let too many things through that were obvious spam. I just decided I would deal with it myself instead of constantly searching the spam folder for that "missing" email.
ratsmack··on Ian's Shoelace Site
>My own Ian Knot (yes – I'm the inventor) is the World's Fastest Shoelace Knot. Make a loop with both ends and simultaneously pull them through each other to form an almost instant knot.

I doubt he invented that, because I've been tying my shoes with that knot my entire life and I'm 70 years old. My dad showed me this because it's the way he tied his shoes and he was born in 1912.

ratsmack··on Tests find many popular omega 3 supplements are rancid
I keep mine refrigerated.
ratsmack··on Turkish man arrested over posting photo to Reddit with alcohol in mosque
Your link indicates the US has no blasphemy laws, btw.
ratsmack··on Australia to give cats a curfew because they are murdering so many other animals
This is not an issue just for Australia. There seems to be an epidemic of stray cats here in the US also. Many come from people that leave their animals behind when they have to move, and the issue seems to escalate every time there is a downturn in the economy.
ratsmack··on Block the Blue – Twitter Verified Blocker
4chan seems to be doing just fine, I don't think much has changed there.
ratsmack··on Ask HN: Will Google delete inactive gmail accounts that forward email?
Google is run by accountants and the bottom line is all that matters.
ratsmack··on NSO group iPhone zero-click, zero-day exploit captured in the wild
If only people would come to realize this.
ratsmack··on Tesco gives workers bodycams after rise in violent attacks
>Tesco’s chief executive has called for a change in the law to make abuse or violence towards retail workers an offence across the UK.

Does this imply that there is currently nothing illegal with violently attacking retail workers in the UK?

ratsmack··on Tesla's dirty little secret on California's I-5
I've been trading stocks for a long time, and I've noticed this type of "journalism" is knee-capping a lot of companies at a higher rate than ever.
ratsmack··on ISPs should not police online speech no matter how awful it is
They also dropped the Daily Stormer from what I remember.
ratsmack··on ISPs should not police online speech no matter how awful it is
Your link goes to a 404, unfortunately.
ratsmack··on Layoffs are down, but employers are still finding ways to cut jobs
It seems that media today is all about volume of content, which requires that controversy is created from virtually nothing to justify another pointless article.
ratsmack··on Flash mobs invade luxury L.A. retailers with brute force, overwhelming numbers
Are you saying that it's more of a concern for conservatives and not so much for liberals?
ratsmack··on Bankman-Fried used $100M in stolen FTX funds for political donations, US says
You say that as if the US is free of corruption.
ratsmack··on The Era of Ultracheap Stuff Is Under Threat
Anyone want to get a new battery for their phone that still works fine except for the battery is wearing out? Right, good luck with that.
ratsmack··on Big Tobacco knew radioactive Po210 in cigarettes posed cancer risk, kept quiet
And just to be clear, the swamp has no party affiliation.
ratsmack··on World War III Will Be Fought with Viruses
So, if viruses are the new bioactive weapon, could this be why chemical weapons have been recently discarded?
ratsmack··on Twitter now requires login to browse tweets
How does Twitter's requirement differ from paywalls?
ratsmack··on Twitter removes govt funded labels after outlets flee
>Twitter has also removed guardrails intended to limit the visibility of propaganda from Russian, Chinese, and Iranian government accounts, NPR reports.

This is as if to say that Western Media does not print propaganda.

ratsmack··on Dellcam suspended by Twitter for reporting on the hack of Matt Walsh's account
I wonder what this is all about here. https://twitter.com/fishontherun2/status/1648786065304731650

Here's a little more. https://twitter.com/WIRED/status/1648827525961773062

Looks like he was soliciting some of the hacked material.

ratsmack··on SVB collapse: Peter Thiel’s role scrutinized as spark of bank run
Everyone saw the same quarterly report saying that they (SVB) took a $1.8b hit and needed to raise capital via a stock offering. Peter Thiel decided to move his funds elsewhere. Does that make him the bad guy?
ratsmack··on Tesla crashes into Girl Scout table and wounds 3 at Northern California Walmart
>The driver of the vehicle was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, according to the California Highway Patrol.

It has nothing to do with a Tesla.

ratsmack··on AI Gold Rush
When AI can make incremental improvements to its own code, then I will consider calling it Artificial Intelligence. Until then, it's just poorly Simulated Intelligence.
ratsmack··on Microsoft AI chatbot threatens to expose personal info, ruin a user's reputation
Sounds like a normal conversation on the internet to me.
ratsmack··on Ask HN: What would it take for an AI to convince us it is conscious?
I think the answer lies somewhere here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quantum_mind
ratsmack··on How fraudsters can use AI to scam
I think human scammers can be just as efficient and convincing as any machine produced method. Stock photos are readily available also, so I don't see the issue with AI created pictures.
